Close to the Forest of Birse, Glencatt and the River Dee, the lodge is perfectly located to offer excellent opportunities for sporting and outdoor enthusiasts, or lovers of wildlife and nature who enjoy long walks and exploring the local countryside.

Scotland is one of the finest salmon fishing destinations in Europe, and the River Dee in Aberdeenshire is a lure for fly fishing enthusiasts from all over the world. This majestic, fast flowing stretch of water set amongst the beauty of the Deeside Valley, sweeps along the northern edge of Ballogie Estate and fishing may be available by arrangement with the owners. If fishing is not your thing, there are many other activities in the surrounding area including hill walking, quad biking and pony trekking. The area is a mecca for wildlife enthusiasts, with the Muir of Dinnet Reserve, the Lochnagar Reserve and Mar Estate offering chances to glimpse ospreys, otters and wildfowl especially on the Lochs Kinnord and Davan. The ski slopes at the Lecht and Glenshee can be easily reached, and these areas also offer plenty of good hill walking. Locally, the towns of Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory have plenty of artisan shops and there are good eating places on the estate itself.
