Luxury Georgian Country House, Lake District - Pass the Keys
Whitbarrow Lodge is a stunning four-bedroom Georgian country house in the Lake District National Park. Dating back to 1740, it features spacious living areas, elegant bedrooms, a luxurious kitchen, and a large drawing room with a piano. The gardens include a pond, waterfall, terrace, lawns, and breathtaking countryside views, offering a perfect retreat for families or friends seeking space, comfort, relaxation, and timeless character.
Whitbarrow Lodge is an exceptional four-bedroom Georgian country house set within the scenic Lake District National Park. Built in 1740 as a gentlemanâs residence, it combines historic charm with spacious, light filled interiors and elevated views over landscaped gardens, woodland, and open countryside. With elegant bedrooms, a grand drawing room with a piano, a formal dining room with a fireplace, a terrace, pond, and waterfall, itâs the perfect retreat for families or friends seeking comfort, style, and space.
The House
Step inside to discover classic Georgian proportions and original features, including high ceilings, sash windows, and period cornicing, all complemented by modern comforts. The drawing room is the heart of the house, impressively large, flooded with natural light, and featuring a piano and fireplace, ideal for relaxing, entertaining, or quiet evenings.
The formal dining room provides an elegant space for meals and special occasions, anchored by a limestone fireplace that adds warmth and character. The kitchen is bright and sociable, with cream cabinetry, a marble-topped island, cherry wood surfaces, and a banquette for casual dining. Doors open onto the terrace, allowing seamless indoor-outdoor living. The ground floor also includes a utility room, a downstairs WC, and a tucked-away study with a working vintage safe.
Upstairs, four generously sized bedrooms offer high ceilings, far reaching views, and flexible sleeping arrangements. The principal suite features dual-aspect windows, a dressing area, and a luxurious bathroom with a deep slipper bath and walk-in shower. The remaining bedrooms are served by en suite and family-access bathrooms, making the house ideal for both families and groups.
Outdoor Space
Set within approximately half an acre, the grounds are beautifully maintained. A south-facing terrace is perfect for alfresco dining or morning coffee, while the gardens include a pond, a waterfall, mature trees, lawns, and shrubbery. Wildlife sightings are common, creating a sense of peace and seclusion while enjoying the surrounding countryside.
During your stay, you will have exclusive access to the entire property, including the house, garden and pond. Everything is yours to enjoy, so you can relax, unwind, and make the space your own for the duration of your stay.
Please note that the private pond and stream within the grounds are unfenced. For safety reasons, we kindly ask that children and pets are supervised at all times when outdoors.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome. Please keep them off beds/furniture, bring their own bedding/towels, and clean up after them.
Guests receive a starter pack: toiletries, 2 toilet rolls per bathroom, 1 kitchen roll, and tea & coffee (usually lasts 2 days).
Whitbarrow Lodge is a period property with original features, including uneven floors and internal steps. While these details form part of its charm and character, they may not be suitable for all guests.
The track leading to the property is narrow and uneven so please do drive with care.
Use wood only in the log burnersâno paper or plastic.
Please return any moved furniture to its place before leaving.
No parties; please respect neighbors.
Self check-in is available; no direct contact is needed.
IMPORTANT: On behalf of our host at Pass the Keys, we require guest verification facilitated by Truvi (Previously called Superhog). Upon confirming your booking, Truvi will contact the lead booker via a secure link, providing detailed instructions for the verification process.
The online verification requires a government-issued photo ID and a credit or debit card. During this process, you may choose between a refundable GBP 500 deposit (plus GBP 10 transaction fee currency equivalent) or purchase a non-refundable damage waiver of GBP 40 (currency equivalent) to cover potential damages during your stay.
Once the verification process is successfully completed, check-in information will be provided. If you opted in for a deposit, this will be refunded via credit/debit card after your stay, subject to an inspection of the property.
