Old Earth is a beautifully restored three-bedroom country retreat set on Gilthwaiterigg Lane, just outside Kendal in the heart of the South Lakes. Dating back to 1821, this elegant stone house blends rich heritage with modern comfort, offering generous living space, a private hot tub, and a peaceful garden setting. Perfect for families or small groups, Old Earth provides a welcoming base for exploring Kendal, Windermere, and the wider Lake District.
The Space:
Old Earth is a characterful stone property filled with warmth, light, and a strong sense of place. Once a small country hotel offering rest to travellers heading into the Lakes, the house has been thoughtfully restored to retain its historic charm while introducing contemporary comforts throughout.
The ground floor offers relaxed and sociable living spaces, with an inviting sitting area centred around an indoor fireplace, ideal for cosy evenings after a day exploring the fells. Large sash windows and thick stone walls create a calm and comfortable atmosphere in every season. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering stays, with an oven, hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, and a coffee machine, along with ample cookware, glassware, and dining essentials.
Upstairs, the property offers three generously sized bedrooms. The principal bedroom features a super king bed and a private en suite shower room. The second and third bedrooms both offer king size beds and share a stylish family bathroom. Both bathrooms are fitted with modern walk-in showers, sinks, mirrors, and toilets, finished to a high standard.
Outside, the garden provides a peaceful place to unwind, with space for outdoor dining and relaxation. The private hot tub is perfectly positioned for soaking under the open sky, whether after a long walk or simply to enjoy a slower pace of life.
Old Earth is well suited to families or small groups looking for space, comfort, and a quiet countryside setting, while remaining close to the amenities of Kendal and the South Lakes.
Guest Access:
Ridgestone guests have exclusive use of the entire property, including all living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, garden, and the private hot tub.
The house has its own private entrance and driveway parking is available for guests.
Old Earth is set in a peaceful location, and guests are kindly asked to be respectful of the surroundings and neighbouring properties during their stay.
The hot tub is only for use of guests aged 16 years and over and should be used responsibly, following the guidance provided in the guest information.
Pets are not permitted at this property.
For everyone’s comfort and safety, smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the property.
