Wyvern House - Luxury Cottages
At a glance
Historic former laundry house with characterful period features Elegant interiors with original features and luxurious touches Enjoy estate walks through the 300-acre deer park and the Shropshire countryside
About the property
Wyvern House, located within the grounds of the ancestral home of the Leighton family, is a captivating retreat where centuries of history meet modern elegance. Its heritage is steeped in royal connections - two kings of England stayed at Loton Park in 1806, in rooms and original beds that remain part of the Leighton family home today. Tucked within the Shropshire countryside, this striking former laundry house blends period architecture with beautifully designed interiors. From beamed ceilings and bold colours to cosy lounges and elegant bedrooms, every corner exudes warmth and character. Perfect for families or friends, it's a place to slow down, reconnect and enjoy the timeless charm of English country living. Guests can also enjoy access to the surrounding deer park, with scenic walks leading to local pubs.
The space
Entering through the estate's gates, the exterior immediately sets the tone for a stay rich in heritage and character. Wyvern House was adapted in 1843 by Sir Baldwin Leighton, 8th Baronet, to serve as the estate office, laundry, bakery and larder.
Inside, two inviting living spaces offer the perfect balance of past and present, one filled with traditional charm, patterned textiles, warm tones and original elegant wall art throughout, including paintings by Mary, Lady Leighton dating back to the 18th century.
The second living area brings a modern touch, a cosy lounge ideal for relaxed evenings, film nights or board games.
This thoughtful blend of history and comfort creates a truly distinctive atmosphere, where every detail reflects the estate's storied past and enduring elegance.
The kitchen is superbly equipped for both everyday living and special occasions. At its heart is a spacious range cooker, complemented by a fridge, freezer, dishwasher and ample preparation space. A generous eight-seater dining table sets the stage for leisurely breakfasts, elegant dinners and celebratory gatherings, while large windows frame views of the surrounding parkland, bringing the beauty of the Shropshire countryside indoors.
Upstairs, four beautiful bedrooms combine period features with contemporary comfort, each with it's own unique view. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, bold colours. exposed beams and historic features, creating a truly unique retreat. The second bedroom offers twin beds that can be converted to a super-king on request, along with a comfortable seating area for quiet reading. The third bedroom has a charming double bed and large window surrounded by climbing roses and shrubbery views, while the fourth features a king-size bed with its own en-suite bathroom.
In addition to the en-suite, there are two further bathrooms. A ground-floor shower room with WC is ideal for guests returning from countryside walks, and a bath on the first-floor, ensuring ample facilities for families and groups.
Outside, the estate grounds provide space to unwind and take in the serene rural surroundings and allow you to disconnect and submerge yourself in nature. Whether enjoying a leisurely walk, exploring the deer park, or simply gazing out over the glorious gardens, Wyvern House offers a timeless country escape.
