🚗 Transport Options:
We can arrange comfortable transport for you from Kathmandu to Pokhara:
• By Plane: 25-minute flight.
• By Tourist Bus: 6 to 8 hours (buses run daily at 7 am).
• By Car or Jeep: You decide how many breaks you want.

For more adventurous travelers, public transport is also an option. A local jeep runs twice daily from Pokhara to Tanchowk, or you can take a bus from Pokhara via Lumle.

We encourage you to get in touch before your stay and talk through your plans. We have a trusted colleague in Pokhara who can help with on-the-spot issues. Transport, food provisions, guides, and porters can be arranged at an extra cost. Please do ask for more details.

Mahakaruna is a self-catering property and we can arrange for all your provisions to be supplied and delivered on the day of your arrival (please see our pricing page for this extra charge). We have a trusted colleague who will make sure that you have everything you need throughout your stay.

For those who prefer to go shopping themselves, there are three main supermarkets in Mahendrapul, the nearest town in Pokhara City, which provide a wide range of Western and Nepali food. These are Bhat Bhateni, Safeways, and Binayak. There is also a fruit and vegetable market in Chipledhunga, Mahendrapul, where fresh produce can be bought straight from the farmers.

The house is ideally located for short walks (15 minutes) to the picturesque local villages of Tanchowk, Majgaun, and Patilikhet with their friendly local communities. There are many beautiful day hikes. Pothana and the Australian Base Camp are two hours away. Longer treks in the area include Ghorepani-Poonhill (3-5 days), Mardi Himal (5-7 days), Annapurna Base camp and Annapurna Sanctuary (7-10 days), and, of, course, the legendary Annapurna Circuit (17 days). Mountain bikers will find the area simply irresistible and there are bikes for hire.

Tanchowk village is easily accessible by car and we can arrange comfortable transport for you from Pokhara or Kathmandu. Public transport is also an option. A jeep runs through the village twice daily and there is a local bus from Pokhara to Lumle, about a 45- minute walk away on a flat dirt road.

Booking Policy
- Full payment is due 30 days before arrival and will be automatically charged to the card on file.
- If payment fails, it must be completed within 24 hours or the booking will be cancelled.
- Early payment is allowed (card fees up to 3% are non-refundable if cancelled).
- Only guests featured on the booking will be allowed and we reserve the right to charge additional fees for any staying guests who are not booked on the reservation

Cancellation Policy
- Full refund if cancelled 30+ days before arrival.
- 50% refund if cancelled 14–30 days before arrival.
- No refund if cancelled within 14 days of arrival.
- No smoking indoors (balcony and garden available for smokers).
- No pets, parties, or events.
- Please remove shoes indoors to preserve the wooden floors.
- Respect the peaceful atmosphere and local wildlife.
- Only guests featured on the booking will be allowed and we reserve the right to charge additional fees for any staying guests who are not booked on the reservation
