À propos de cet hébergement
21 Shoregate - stylish cottage with sea views and secluded garden, pet-friendly
21 Shoregate is a 300 year old fisherman’s cottage just a stone’s throw from Crail harbour in the heart of this ancient village.
The master bedroom has two windows overlooking the sea, and two windows overlooking Castle Terrace. It boasts an extremely comfy super-king bed. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds and overlooks the picturesque stepped gables of Castle Terrace. Open the windows at night and you’ll hear the waves on the shore as you drift off… The bathroom has a P-shaped bath and a state of the art Grohe Rainshower system.
Our bedding is pure Egyptian cotton from The White Company and organic, fairtrade unbleached cotton from Nour Luxury. Soap, shampoo and bubbles from Arran Aromatics are provided in the bathroom, together with White Company towels.
Downstairs, the living-room opens onto the dining area and kitchen. We take pride in our well-stocked kitchen with everything you need to indulge in some holiday baking, and such extras as a slow cooker, and a Nespresso machine but also cafetières and milk frother for those who prefer to make their brew the old-fashioned way. There is a Weber BBQ in the garden.
In the living-room you will find a digital TV, a CD player with Bluetooth (rather old-fashioned to have a CD player still, but we like it), and a Bose Sound Dock. Broadband wifi is provided and the cottage has its own small library of DVDs and books.
We think it is important that you feel welcome as soon as you step in the door. In all seasons of the year, the wood-burning stove will be laid ready for your arrival, and you will find fresh flowers (from the garden in summer) and a basket of delicious Scottish goodies plus a bottle of wine from our local wine merchant.
There is a secluded small garden behind the cottage. At the bottom you will find a terrace perched above the rooftops overlooking the Firth of Forth and on to the Isle of May. Perfect for sea and star gazing…. There is also a side garden with terraced flower beds and we've let the hedge at the front of the cottage grow a bit higher so you can sit on the bench out here in the morning unobserved by passers-by, watching the sun sparkle on the sea, while you enjoy your coffee, .
Perfect for a coastal summer break, the cottage also offers real cosiness in the winter. When the seas are wild, snuggling up to the wood-burning stove with a hot chocolate or something stronger is sheer bliss. Nestled on the sofa, you can look through the French doors to the garden and the sea under the cliff beyond. Whether you are planning a romantic long weekend or some quality time with the family, the peace and seclusion of 21 Shoregate offers a respite from busy lives.

Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous êtes reçu par Susan Irvine

I'm a Scot whose father's family are from Fife going back generations. Crail is my Narnia ... a sanctuary from a busy life in the city, and I love sharing it with my guests, the majority of whom return again and again. We've been sharing this special place since 2008.
Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
Crail is brilliant for walks. The coastal path runs a few yards from the cottage door, and there is also the nearby Pilgrim's Way.
Here you are deep in rural Scotland, but also only 9 miles from St Andrews. Having this little jewel of a city nearby is a bonus for culture, and also for foodies. We have excellent restaurants and farm shops in the East Neuk [i.e. East Corner of Fife]
Of course we also have golf, golf, golf! St Andrews is the birthplace of golf and there are almost 50 courses in the county, including 2 excellent ones here in Crail.
At nearby Anstruther you can take the boat to the Isle of May, out in the Firth of Forth - it's Britain's best puffin-watching site. And if history is your thing, Fife is steeped in it. Cambo and Kellie Castle are a few miles from Crail and 'Scotland's Secret Bunker' a few minutes drive away.
You'll find our personal guide in the house, packed with ideas for things to do, see - and eat!

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
21 Shoregate stands at the end of a row of 17th and 18th century houses, on a head of rock above Shoregate and the sea. On the 18th century title deeds we discovered the house has a name: Rock Head. This location at the head of the rock is perfect, with beautiful views of the sea over tumbling roofs below.
The house is a haven, it's so peaceful, cosy and light-filled. You can follow the sun round the garden: morning sun at the front where there is a bench next to the scented rose bush, then heading into the side garden ... and as the sun travels on, the small back garden becomes a sun-trap, tucked away out of sight.
The cottage is a couple of minutes walk from the harbour and beach and is also just a few minutes walk from the local shops. There's an excellent bar and restaurant, The Shoregate, 100 yards away up the road.
