À propos de cet hébergement
Beautifully restored wine grower’s house with pool in stunning riverside village
New for 2025! Experience the quintessential South of France life in a fully restored former wine grower’s house located in the vibrant village of Roquebrun (known as « le petit Nice » due to its favourable climate). Relax at the house with its pool (7mx3mx1.4m), garden, games room and shaded terrace or walk to the village for its restaurants, canoe centre, cafe, bakery and weekly market.
This old wine grower’s house was fully restored by the owners during 2019-2020 and now features five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a separate WC. The house is 145sqm and sleeps ten so works well for two families. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor (a double bedroom and a bedroom with two single beds) which are linked by a “jack and jill” bathroom. On the top floor, there is a large master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and two double bedrooms under the eaves which share a shower room on that floor. See the floor plans in the photos for details of the layout. You can live very comfortably day to day in the large communal living area consisting of a lounge with original wooden beams, TV/ DVD and a wood burning stove, as well as a large kitchen / diner which opens onto a shaded terrace (with gas bbq). From the terrace, take the steps up to the heated pool and the garden with its walnut trees and many levels of terraces. All rooms have air conditioning units. In the garage under the house, where they used to make wine until the late 1960’s, you will find a games room (table football, table tennis and darts) as well as a selection of mountain bikes which guests are welcome to use. Unusually for this village, the house has private parking for two cars, one in the garage and one on the drive in front of the garage,
The house sits in a secluded wooded valley on a quiet road to a small hamlet, with views of the medieval watch tower and the surrounding hills. Despite its rustic location, the house sits within the stunning village of Roquebrun and so is only a 5 minute walk through the old village streets to all the amenities the village has to offer, including a bakery with ice cream stand, gift shop, cafe, several restaurants, a mini supermarket, a weekly market and a canoe centre. The canoe centre is open daily in the summer and offers trips of 5km, 10km, 15km or even longer. The village has a river beach for swimming if you fancy a change from the pool. The village and its surrounding neighbours have regular markets and festivals throughout the summer with wine, food and local bands. Roquebrun also has a Mediterranean garden open to visitors as well as various wine producers, including its own cooperative with wine shop.
You can happily spend your entire holiday between the house and the village. Should you wish to venture further afield, you can visit the Mediterranean beaches (50 mins), the vibrant city of Beziers (45 mins) or the walled medieval city of Carcassonne (1 hour 20mins). The area offers great options for cyclists, with a choice of smooth roads, disused railway cycle paths and marked mountain bike trails. The village of Roquebrun is in the Upper Languedoc National Park so there are many walks and river swimming opportunities to explore in the near vicinity, in places such as Olargues and Mons la Trivalle with its waterfalls at the Gorge d’Heric. In nearby Saint Chinian, you will find a larger weekly market and a couple of excellent wine shops offering the best wines from local producers.
The nearest airports are Beziers, Carcassonne and Montpellier.
Practical Notes:
- This is a pet friendly house;
- The house and gardens feature a number of stone steps between the various levels so young guests will need appropriate supervision and it may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues; and
- A travel cot is available upon request (no cot bedding provided).

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
We have been coming to Roquebrun and the surrounding area on and off since 2008. We love the warm Mediterranean climate and the stunning scenery. Roquebrun has a lovely river for swimming and canoeing and is a perfect base for day trips to the seaside or the city of Beziers as well as the higher peaks of the Haut Languedoc national park. We also like exploring the local area on bikes and visiting the weekly market at St Chinian. Most weeks we will also head to the coast for a day and have a fish lunch at a beach restaurant.
Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
We love our house in Roquebrun as we had it totally restored whilst respecting the old fabric of the wine grower’s house. The house sits above a large garage or “cave” which is partially cut into the rock and is where the wine used to be made. The wooden beams throughout the main house are all original. We built the large kitchen/ diner as a new extension to the side of the house so you get the best of old and new. Below the kitchen is the games room with table football and table tennis and where our children tend to congregate with friends in the evening. We love lazy days by the pool. In addition to restoring the house, we also restored a whole series of old stone walls which make the terraces of what is now our Mediterranean style back garden. Everyone can find a quiet spot to relax in the sun or shade around the property and its garden. We also love being able to walk into the village so we never have to drive to a nice restaurant or bar. This is our special relaxing place.
