The yurt was beautiful! The property was secluded for a nice get away and it wasn't far to beaches and beautiful scenic places to see, even saw some sea turtles at beaches about 15-20 mins away! The host was very nice and a pleasure to talk to, if I could I would live at this location, in the yurt with no complaints whatsoever, if you are looking for a quiet place to stay that is beautiful to boot then I suggest staying here. If I ever come back to Hilo I will definitely be staying here again.. thank you Jim, I appreciate everything and hope to see you again!
Kevin it was an absolute pleasure hosting you and Holly for your trip of discovery to the Big Island. We hope your adventures going forward are nothing short of excellent.
Healing jungle with resort like comfort!
We are high 40s couple from Japan, and it was our 8th time to visit Big Island but was the first time to stay in Puna. We just found Jim’s Big tent house coincidentally at Vrbo. It was a definitely right choice for us who have been looking for a middle of Hawaiian jungle experience! We stayed 8 nights here. Sleeping with hearing frogs and feeling moderately moist cool air was so healing! You can’t experience this at luxury hotel in Waikoloa. We will stay here again definitely!
Maybe you worry about comfort and amenities of the property because it is a yurt. We did but no worry! It is fully equipped and much more comfortable than you imagine. In case you need something, Jim and Marsha who live in downstairs would help you always.
It is a big studio inside the yurt (upstairs). There are one nice and firm Queen bed and one sofa bed. I used sofa bed every nights without a problem. I had good sleep. Full kitchen with everything. One bath room has a tub equipped with a hand shower. Hot water always! Shower pressure is low but is is OK. High speed Wi-Fi! Speed test result was 141Mbps down and 88Mbps up!
There are only two potential negative factors (We were OK with them). One is a rooster crow in 3am morning. There is one big boss rooster crows loudly. You might need nice pair of earplugs.
Another is the road condition from the main road to the property. The best route includes 5 miles one lane road and 2 miles of it is not paved. Hawaii off road is not like the one in the mainland U.S. It is a hard rock bottom and so bumpy sometimes. It took 20 minutes for us to drive this 5miles. I really recommend to rental SUV or Jeep and avoid night drive for safe.
Overall if you are looking for a quiet peaceful stay surrounded by real Hawaiian natures, this place is for you. You will enjoy like we did.
Our guests from Japan seem most appreciative of the seclusion and tranquility provided by our property, and we have certainly appreciated their visits, Like most guests they find the sounds and roads of rural Hawaii to be part of an overall excellent adventure.
Great Place To Stay!
Loved the whole place. Perfectly clean! Yard was beautiful, quiet and relaxing. Had everything we needed. Easily drove right there with the directions provided. Perfect central location made it easy to head in any direction easily. Great Host! Jim was awesome. Will be staying here again! Can't wait to come back!
Glad you appreciated the place and returning guests are always welcome! We are beginning to develop a small circle who have returned or planning to do so. Mahalo
Beautiful Hawaiian getaway
The property is everything that is described and more. The perfect blend of comfort and seclusion. The owners, Jim and Mercy, made us feel more than welcome, and even provided a bowl of fruit right from the property. The Yurt is perfectly comfortable and at night the birds and the peepers sing you to sleep. It's a slice of paradise, don't pass it up.
Always glad to have guests that appreciate the serenity the property can provide and forego a hectic day of chasing the next black sand beach to just sit, breathe deeply and relax. Glad we had some fruits to share as that is now always the case.....maybe you will come back again?
A Perfect Place in the Big Island Rain Forest! Let your stress melt away.
JEFLANI Estate exceeded our expectations and we can honestly say our two weeks here was the best Hawaiian experience we have ever had. The yurt was perfect; large, well appointed, and very clean. It was nicer than most hotel rooms you'd find and you get three acres of green land to roam on. It was amazingly peaceful and the rain on the roof lulled us to sleep almost every night. We had some doubts about yurts but after staying here, my wife and I both said we could live in a yurt full time with no problem at all. If you pass this place up because its a yurt, you're making a big mistake. If peace and relaxation are what you're looking for, then definitely stay here. The property is a bit off the beaten path, which we preferred. The road is a little intimidating the first time you drive it, but by day two it was piece of cake and a lot of fun to drive.
Now, I don't normally comment on the property owners and most times, we've never even met the VRBO owners of places we've stayed. In this case, the owners, Jim and Mercy, were a bonus. We actually spent a lot of time hanging out with them and found them to be a pleasant and enjoyable couple to spend time with. My wife and I are planning to move to the Big Island in the next year or two and Jim and Mercy were a great source of information on the "dos and don'ts" of moving. And, they don't just treat you like a client, they make sure you have everything and are happy with the accommodations. We left there feeling like we made some good friends and we look forward to visiting Jim and Mercy again as either guests or neighbors.
The Hilo side of the Big Island is a fun, but peaceful place to visit. There are plenty of places to see, things to do, and places to eat in the area. Hilo has every store you'd need and is only 20 min or so from the property. Pahoa has shops and restaurants, (Kaleo's!!) and is only about 15 min away.
We love the Big Island. We loved the yurt. We loved the two weeks at the property.
Wow, after that glowing review of both the property and the hosts, how can we say anything other than :"thank you"? We do not always get to meet our guests and seldom get to spend time with guests, what a wonderful change of pace.Their experience was typical of most guests, a destination worth the drive.
a beautiful property
The yurt is roomy and very nicely furnished. Each piece of furniture adds to the ambience and there is not a piece too much. The garden is huge and well looked after. There are no neighbors to see and hardly any cars drive by on the road which anyway is a good distance across the garden from the yurt. The owners Jim and Mercy are very nice and considerate of ones wishes. This is a special Puna property.
So glad you enjoyed your visit. The rural nature of the property has been a big draw. Thanks for the kind review and we hope you will stay with us again.
