The village takes its name from the Claines Parish prior, which was originally part of the area many years ago. Within the village there is a famous pub, The Mug House, which is one of only two pubs in a churchyard in England. There are also a handful of independent shops, two convenience stores and a farm shop selling local produce. The nearby town of Droitwich Spa offers a greater choice of amenities and attractions including the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings and Aztec Adventure water sports activity centre, plus several well-establish festivals which run throughout the year.
