Original lock keepers cottage by caledoinian canal close to Lochness
Kintore cottage is an original loch keepers cottage built around 1830 at the same time the caledonian canal was built it is situated in the village of Fort Augustus at the head of Loch Ness.The cottage has been renovated and extended to offer quality comfortable self catering accommodation for up to four people in one twin and one double bedroom. Located by the side of the canal and within the village of Fort Augustus it is within easy reach of all the amenities the village has to offer and is only a few hundred meters from the shores of Lochness. It is also conviently situated to participate in both summer and winter activities. From the front of the cottage you are able to watch boats taverse up and down the canal through the flight of locks The cottage has parking to rear within a small enclosed garden with barbecue and table and chairs. The cosy sitting room contains a large woodburning stove with the firewood provided and is ideal in the cooler times of the year. The stove also provides heat to the radiators and hot water. Electricity is paid for by coin meter, you pay for what you use.
The Lock Keepers Cottage aka (Kintore Cottage) is by far the best Cottage we have stayed in on our visits to the Loch Ness area, The cottage itself is very cozy and furnished to a very high standard and has everything you need to make your stay a home from home. Being on holiday apart from breakfast we ate out mostly and Fort Augustus has many eateries and there is something for all tastes, Kintore Cottage is certainly a perfect central Hub for touring the surrounding highlands. We will return.
