Beautifully converted ,peaceful gite offering stunning views and a relaxing stay
One bedroomed 'upside down 'house ,offering everything a traveller would need to relax and enjoy peace, stunning views and a chance to visit the local areas .The house is fully equipped to have a memorable stay. Mortain is on the edge of a National Park and therefore there is great for access to beautiful, historic scenery. If you want to go further afield, the DDAY beaches are 90 minutes away. The historic town of Bayeux is also a stunning drive for the day. Mont St Michel and the surrounding area is fantastic to visit for the day. Mortain is self contained with cafes ,banks restaurants and shops so if you ant to stay local then visit the Petite Chapelle and Hill 314,take a walk around the countryside and see what Normandy has to offer. The Grande and Petite Cascades are the biggest waterfalls in the area and are worth a visit (especially after a rainfall)
This is the cleanest property I have ever stayed in.
The gite is a professional conversion of an old barn into an upside down house. Everything in the property is of a high standard.
There is an adjacent orchard for guests to use and great views from the living room.
The hosts are nearby and available for advice but not intrusive.
The town and area are very interesting and good for walking. Those with impaired mobility would find the steps and stairs difficult but otherwise it is a wonderful stay for singles or couples.
We moved here permanently in Jan 2023 after deciding to retire early from our careers in the UK. We originally bought the house as a holiday home and we inherited an old food barn which we then renovated and this has become the gite. We love meeting people from different countries and explaining to them how the gite came about (one guest described it as an 'upside down 'house .This certainly adds to its character and uniqueness. The building is completely separate and private from the main house with access to the meadow/orchard to help yourself to the fruit and have a quiet sit and watch the birdlife. Everyone is different and we aim to make your stay as memorable as possible. There is a welcome basket provided that will assist you in enjoying your stay.
Mortain is a quiet town situated around the Petite Chapelle and the Grandes and Petites Cascades. Both are walkable but there are hills to get to both. We love the friendliness of the Norman people and the patience they show us with our French!!
The meadow beside the gite is completely private and peaceful. The area is stunning in its scenery and in its peacefulness. Walking around the area, you can hear birds of prey, the local farmers cows and ,in season, the woodpeckers. The local area is rich in history and during the summer ,there are fabulous markets in the nearby towns to visit and sample the richness of Norman life.
