À propos de cet hĂ©bergement

Stunning Luxury Thatched cottage not far from Galway City & Connemara - Hot Tub & Sauna

Outside: Patsys Cottage is like stepping back in time while also experiencing luxury. It has been lovingly restored in resent years from farm building to beautiful and unusual thatched cottage. The building dates back to pre 1820. Located down a boreen (small country road) you can walk down past the house to the old Clifden to Galway railway line and on into the forest. The property is located just 4km from Oughterard which is the gateway to Connemara while also being just 40 min drive from Galway City – the perfect location for exploring.

Oughterard is famous for its Salmon and Trout fishing and is also the start of the Western Way walking trail. Each year the village holds an International Mayfly festival. You can rent fishing gear or if you would like an even more relaxed stay, enjoy a boat trip on Lough Corrib out to Inchagoill Island. Make sure to check out Powers Bar and the Boat Inn for great food. Grab a coffee and browse the great selection at O Sullivans shop.

Right next door to the cottage you will find the Glengowla Mines and farm experience – a great way to spend a few hours panning for gold or learning to shear sheep. If you are into mountain biking, head up the forest track or just 5 mins away you have the Derroura Mountain Bike Trail
The property is a lovely step back from it all. Enjoy the chickens and bee hives while sipping a glass of wine in the beautiful outdoor area.

Inside: This cottage has been finished to a very high standard with tasteful fixings and fixtures that suit this historical property. You enter through a beautiful low door with an original stain glass window from the local church. The ceilings go right up the roof and are timber clad giving an even more cosy feel. All the stunning timber inside and out is locally sourced. In the kitchen you will find everything to cook during your stay – help yourself to the organic veg growing in the garden and of course the fresh eggs from the chickens. Cosy up with a book or a board game in front of the stove adding even more atmosphere to beautiful cottage.

From this central living space is a narrow ladder (not suitable for children) up to a small mezzanine style single room. Also off the living room you will find a further single room & a large master bedroom. There is a stunning bathroom with large walk in shower. The garden of this property is amazing – no matter what the weather! There is a wonderful seating area around a fire pit. There is a sauna with stunning views into the forest as one end is made completely of glass. Add some of the locally grown eucalyptus to give a therapeutic feel.

As if that wasn’t enough
you’ll also find a wood fire heated hot tub with an ice plunge pool! The perfect way to relax after a strenuous day biking or walking. The owners have really thought of it all at this property and have installed a EV point for you to charge your car.

Charming cottage complete with fresh eggs from resident chickens.

The cottage was perfect for our stay — Mum, Son, Grandson. The house was completely furnished with thoughtful amenities like lap blankets along with local honey, fresh eggs and friendly chickens. Our host was helpful giving us complete explanations of all parts of the house. Suggestions: a bigger bathroom/shower mat, a working electric blanket in the smaller bedroom. Otherwise, everything was delightful.

What a delightful place!

We had such a lovely time at Patsy’s Cottage. If I could give it ten stars I would. It’s not just lodging - it’s a truly special experience. The thatched roof cottage is charming, but it’s the outdoors and the hospitality that truly wows! We sat in the sauna and hot tub and around the outdoor fire pit; fed the horses; hiked the gorgeous land and enjoyed Gerry’s fresh eggs and honey. It was wholesome and delightful. Gerry is a perfect host and Patsy’s Cottage is a unique and wonderful spot. We loved it and are already planning a return visit.

A special place

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. After days out exploring, we relaxed in the sauna and hot tub under the stars. A really special place.

A Hidden Gem in the Connemara Countryside

I can’t believe we found this place. Patsy’s Cottage is one of those rare spots that just feels right the moment you arrive. It’s a beautiful little thatched-roof cottage in the Connemara countryside, with just the right mix of rustic charm and quiet luxury. The setting is peaceful and surrounded by wildflowers, but it’s still close to a small fishing town where you can grab groceries, shop, or have a pint at the pub. We used it as a home base to explore the region—beaches, hikes, historic sites—but honestly, we were just as happy staying in. There’s a wood-fired hot tub and sauna, an ice bucket plunge, and fresh eggs every morning from the backyard chickens. Our two daughters loved checking on them each day and running through the field behind the house. We even received fresh honey from the beehives on the property. If you stay here, be sure to make a stop at the Glengowla Mines, less than a 5-minute drive away. Family-owned for generations, our daughters enjoyed the historic mine tour, and the sheepherding demonstration. The host was fantastic. Welcoming, thoughtful, and made sure everything was ready for us—from walking us through the house when we arrived to prepping the wood-fired hot tub each day. Every detail was taken care of. This place feels like a hidden gem. It’s hard to believe it wasn’t already booked solid. We’re already planning to come back. If you’re visiting Ireland, don’t skip this spot.

a Connemara gem

Patsy's cottage is the best place we stayed at during our Summer 24' Irish road trip. A charming thatched wood cottage, beautifully decorated and cleverly arranged, so that we didn't miss anything and there was sufficient space for the 4 of us. The outdoor part brings your stay to the next level, with sauna, jacuzzi, firepit, fresh eggs from the hens everyday, Connemara ponies across the road, fresh potatoes to dig out, flowers everywhere... And the owner Gerry is super available and friendly, always ready to help us feel better : it shows that he's (understandably) proud of the house he built. This place is pure hidden gem, only pity was that we could only book 3 nights there, due to its success. Would recommend a 1000 times to anyone, and already eager to return!

Very nice cottage in the middle of nowhere

First of all: the owner is one of a kind. I seldomly met such a nice person in my life. Gerry was always there to provide us with fresh eggs, homemade honey, heating the stove and just having a chat. Thanks Gerry, you were awesome. The cottage itself was quaint and definitely worth the experience although I must say it is too small for four adults. The heating is run additionally through the stove. If you want really hot water and cosy warm rooms you need to light the fire. No problem with Gerry's help who lit the stove for us while we were away for sightseeing. There was plenty of timber and turf all the time. The cottage is located in the middle of nowhere. If you want to relax and do some digital detox it is perfect. One last thing. There was actually a washing machine in the cottage which was not in the description on the website. This should be added. Additionally there is everything in the cottage you need (even painkillers if you had too much of a drink).
