Dove Cottage is the perfect epitome of a traditional British countryside cottage. âą Your own private patio where your hot tub sits offers postcard panoramas over the Cumbrian fells and historic Graythwaite Hall. You may just spot a lamb or two in the Summertime. âą The living room with its own log burning stove overlooks the park and Hall, with uninterrupted peace and silence on its own little track up the hill beyond the central estate. âą The Cottage is just a short stroll away from the shared Graythwaite facilities, Home Farm shop and the shared swimming pool which you can book into during your stay. âą Lake Windermere which is only a 5-minute drive away, as well as the famed Estate walk up to âThe Viewâ just through the forest behind the property. You will not be disappointed.
We loved staying in Dove Cottage (family of 4). Secluded but easy to get places. Comfortable with everything we needed. Good size rooms and a lovely view from the hot tub. Would recommend.
Would also recommend the archery/axe throwing and clay pigeon shooting activities on the estate- we had a great time!
We stayed at Dove Cottage for my 40th birthday. We had six nights booked.
All I can say is that is is absolutely delightful and so cozy. The views are stunning! The sunrise was something else
Weâll be returning in the future.
A perfect cottage set amidst the rolling fells of the magnificent Graythwaite estate. Nothing beats sitting in the wood-fired hot tub under the stars after a day of walking around the stunning Windermere Lake. The cottage was well equipped, the beds comfortable and had everything we needed.
lovely cottage, but some issues. Lack of saucepans with lids, and no lid for frying pan. Fridge froze all our food, despite being on lowest setting. Cottages was very cold when we arrived, with no kindling or newspaper to help light log stove.
Found a used towel in bathroom and a soiled toilet which were apparently left by some workmen in the days before we arrived.
2nd bedroom very small, barely a double.
But we liked the terrace with lovely view over the estate parkland and the nice walks down to lake Windermere.
Track from the public road is very rough and potholed, needs repairing.
From first booking the cottage the service was excellent. Plenty of information was sent ahead of the stay, even the directions to the cottage made it very easy to find. The location is wonderful, so peaceful and relaxing with a beautiful view. The cottage has everything you need and was warm and cosy and there are plenty of walks around to keep an active border collie entertained. We have stayed a number of times in Graythwaite properties and we have never been disappointed.
My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 5th year anniversary and we picked Dove Cottage on the Graythwaite estate for our romantic getaway. It was the perfect retreat - stunning views and a lovely cottage that suited our needs. The hot tub was filled for our arrival and we were lucky to be able to see the Milky Way in all it's splendour stretched out above. us! Magical and would recommend this cottage to anyone.
We had a lovely stay but for the price that cottage wouldâve been (we had a heavily discounted price) I wouldnât have been that pleased with the very poor quality and poor condition of the kitchen utensils, especially pots and pans, strange array of plates (it felt like a jumble of unwanted items cleared out of someoneâs house) and bleach stained tea towel. The clock in the kitchen needed a new battery on arrival and it would be nice to leave more than 2 dishwasher tablets for people. The throws in the twin room malted a lot and left green fluff on everything and a second bedside table is needed in the twin room (we used a side table from the living room). Overall it felt as though the cottage needed a facelift and maybe some new furniture. Some better signage to find the cottage would be good and we had a couple of other holiday guests knock on the door trying to find their cottages too, as well as a delivery person so not just us. It was fantastic to have access to the pool and the booking system worked well, the view from the cottage was wonderful and the outdoor bath was great. When we had a problem with the hot water the team were very quick to reply to our email. The welcome hamper was a nice touch with the local produce but the can of Tango was rather random!
Weâve stayed at Graythwaite many times over the years since our children were toddlers, now all in their 30s with their own children. We were here across six properties to celebrate a 70th birthday and have had a wonderful time.
Dove Cottage is our favourite as itâs quiet and with stunning views across the estate. Very comfortable beds and good shower/bath, we would definitely book this one again.
We have had great weather at the end of the week, and the little patio is a lovely sun trap, with beautiful walks through the estate and fields. The hot tub defeated us as the fire needs to burn for hours before it would reach temperature, but the log burner was easy and nice to have when the weather was very wet, although the heating is very good.
Thank you for a lovely holiday, charming helpful people at the estate offices, and a lovely welcome pack too.
Beautiful location but disappointing standard of accomodation
We spent Christmas week in Dove Cottage and were happy to pay a premium to be in a top-end place in a beautiful setting. We had a lovely Christmas holiday, enjoyed the peace, the views, and use of the pool, which is a great facility. However, for the price we paid, we were very disappointed by the standard of the accommodation, which, overall, felt very old and shabby.
- chipped, marked and peeling paintwork on walls
- gaps between skirting boards and frayed carpet/ flooring
- wallpaper peeling off the ceiling
- v low grade carpet- like student halls
- mould in the bathroom
- mould/ condensation around windows
- used towels and tissues found in drawer under bed
- polyfillered holes in the wall
- broken lamp in sitting room
Stayed for a week, and had a really nice stay overall. We were 4 adults, a baby and a dog, and there was plenty of room for us (even though the photos make it look much smaller). Kitchen is big and well equipped and beds were comfy with good quality linen. Great supply of logs for the fire and for the wood-fired hot tub, all of which kept us toasty. Customer service were responsive, though could have done with more toilet rolls, since we quickly ran out and the on-site shop wasn't open during our stay and the nearest shop is a decent drive away. The only substantial criticism was that there was damp in the top bedroom (quickly cleaned up on request), but the underlying problem in the wood shed is obvious, and needs fixing. In addition, the carpets and sofas could do with a bit of a clean. Not filthy by any stretch - just a bit grubby. I'm sure this will have been fixed by the time someone read this. I would certainly come back, however, as it's a stunning place to be, and has incredible views over the estate.
Good stay but some maintenance issues need addressing
We enjoyed our family visit to the Lake District. Thereâs loads to do and despite less than ideal summer weather we had a great time exploring the lakes and had some lovely family days out. Dove cottage was a good central base. The shop and pool on site were great additions especially as the location is quite remote.
We were disappointed by the state of cleanliness and general maintenance of Dove cottage itself. This was raised with the estate office soon after we arrived and they addressed this to our satisfaction. I was impressed by their responsiveness and understanding of our concerns. Overall I think a bit of TLC is needed to address these issues and some âdeep cleaningâ. Otherwise beds were comfy and the log burner ideal (even in summer!). The kitchen was well equipped and the welcome bag was a sweet addition.
Hairdryer, washing up liquid, scourer and cloth provided. Dishwasher and washing machine in the cottage. Beds are really comfy and no noise from outside. Truely relaxing stay. What I would say is take some matches and firelighters with you. If you are not used to lighting log fires these will come in handy, although a welcome bag with firelighters, jam, tea bags, biscuits are waiting for you. The bath needs attention on the draining side, but shower is powerful. Towels are provided. Hot tub is lovely under the stars on a clear night. Log house at the back of the property is sufficiently supplied with logs. Tap with hose attached to fill up the hot tub. Rabbits and pheasants galore. Our dog loved the freedom of running around the estate
We very much enjoyed our stay and loved the estate and access to swimming pool (although it didnât look like it had been cleaned when we went first thing on a Thursday). The beds, bedding etc were very clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. However, the furnishing, carpets etc could do with upgrading as they are quite worn and in some cases stained. Allow plenty of time to fill and heat the hot tub when you first arrive - it takes quite a long time but is definitely worth it! Disappointed that the shop wasnât open even though the sign said it should have been and would have been nice to have seen someone from the estate team at some point. Playground could do with a bit of an upgrade (one swing was broken - challenging when you have two kids!) but the gardens and environment are stunning and location is great. We would definitely recommend and plan to return - just be good if some of the points weâve flagged could be addressed.
