Woodpecker Lodge | East Ruston Cottages

This three bedroom bungalow with a very secure garden, off road parking and hot tub is located at the end of Beach Road, which is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. On your walk to the sandy, dog friendly beach you will pass a shop, cafes, chippy and a great bakery and there is a dog friendly local pub and bar too! Everything you need for a truly dog friendly Norfolk seaside holiday!

Enter into the hallway: A really welcoming hallway with hanging space for coats and boots. Laminate flooring.

Open plan kitchen/living/dining area
The modern fully fitted kitchen has an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. There is a large free standing American style fridge-freezer in addition to a built in 60/40 fridge-freezer for plenty of human and raw dog food. There is also a microwave, toaster and kettle. The light and airy open plan lounge/diner has access to the garden via the French doors. There are two large electric reclining leather sofas and footstool in front of the TV with Sky TV with the sports channels included. The large dining table provides comfortable seating for six.

Bedroom 1
Bedroom 1 has a kingsize bed with wardrobe storage, bedside tables and TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included). The modern ensuite has a walk in shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Bedroom 2
Bedroom 2 has a small double bed (4′) with bedside tables and storage for clothes. TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included).

Bedroom 3
Twin 3′ single beds with bedside tables. There is a TV (with Sky TV with the sports channels included), chest of drawers and hanging space for plenty of storage.

Family bathroom and shower room.
Lovely modern fitted bathroom comprising of bath with shower over, WC and basin.

The whole property has underfloor heating with non-slip flooring.

Outside:
The fully enclosed garden has a luxury 6-person hot tub. There are 6ft high solid fences all round and lockable side gates. You can relax knowing you are not overlooked anywhere in the garden. The patio has a dining table set with parasol for 6 people plus separate lounging chairs.

In the garage there is an adult and separate child’s dart boards for family competitions!

Parking:
There is room for two cars right in front of the property on the driveway. There is a tethered EV charger suitable for Type 1 or Type 2 vehicles with free charging for guests.

Absolutely perfect property, massively dog friendly, perfect location, easy acces to shops beach and much more, hot tub topped it off along with the welcome pack of goodies, will be going back. California inn for food was outstanding and so friendly and welcoming, scratby beach was stunning and perfect for the dog walk. Spotless when we arrived couldnt fault anything.

A lovely bungalow

A very well equipped holiday home for humans and dogs. Very clean and well situated for days out and the beach. A lovely week had by all.

Perfect Stay

We recently spent a long weekend at Woodpecker lodge and it was the most perfect place. The attention to detail was second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property particularly for reactive dog owners.

Amazing Christmas break!

As soon as we walked in to Woodpecker Lodge we knew we would have a great holiday - immaculately clean, with some Christmas decorations, it was immediately inviting. We explored many of the local beaches and towns, loved the local bakery and the Smokehouse. For the dogs, we couldn’t have asked for more with a large assortment of crates, throws on the sofas and spare towels, not to mention a fabulous welcome hamper! There were even some steps to help my old boy up and down from the sofa. Evenings in the hot tub, the added bonus, meant we had a great Christmas break! Definitely recommend.

A perfect short break

A wonderful modern bungalow with everything you could need for a dog friendly break. A short walk to a fabulous beach, and plenty of room to relax in the hot tub. A great location for exploring the beautiful Norfolk coastline

Everything was perfect

Hot tub was amazing, the lodge was modern with everything we needed, our dogs were so relaxed all the photos I took were of them enjoying the luxurious dog beds provided, we had a lovely stay for our 40th wedding anniversary and will definitely be back.

A great stay.

We loved our stay at Woodpecker Lodge. The accommodation was fantastic with everything we could possibly want and need. Our dog was certainly spoiled with the variety of treats, toys and beds to use and he loved playing in the garden before heading off to the amazing nearby beaches.. The nearby building work did not disturb as when we were in the garden as luckily they were not working nearby whilst we stayed. Overall a fantastic stay and we were really impressed. I’m sure we will be back!

Good secure garden.

We had a lovely time. Enjoyed the hot tub. So lovely to walk down to the amazing beach from woodpecker lodge.Had fun playing darts and the Doggies loved the big dog beds

Great place to stay

The bungalow was very well equipped and the owners had left some very welcome supplies for our arrival. Lots of information about the facilities of the bungalow as well as places to visit. Also lots of blankets etc for our 4 legged friends. Only downside was road was a little noisy.

Lovely property, good location

Had a lovely week here with our dog and little boy. Perfect base for exploring, venturing to the beach and relaxing. Lovely daily walks to the baker and the view from Scratby beach. Short drive to Winterton-on-sea where beach access was more suited to our old dog :) The house was so well set up, clean, spacious and very very comfy. Plenty of storage for clothes and cupboard space for food in the kitchen! . Generously furnished and very clean throughout.

Fabulous place!

We had a lovely long weekend at Woodpecker Lodge! The place is really lovely with everything you need. The bed is so comfy and so are the sofas! I would highly recommend the local farm shop Hirsts, the meat and fish and local veg are so good. Local beaches are also ideal for taking your dog for a walk on the beach, our Great Dane loved the freedom!

Great accommodation, but be aware of building works

This property is absolutely fantastic! Incredibly dog-friendly, with everything a human could want and more! The only thing I'd change inside the property is more fans, the south-facing rear of the property made everywhere feel really warm. Unfortunately there are building works taking place behind the property so if you are staying during the week you will be able to hear it, so maybe not ideal if you and your dogs need calming background noise.

Thank you so much for your great 5* review of Woodpecker Lodge and for your valued feedback. On investigation we found that the underfloor heating needed to be adjusted to allow for the recent hot summer weather. This has now been done. Since the building works began creating noise sometimes, a note has been put on our Woodpecker Lodge page advising that some new homes are being built in the field behind Woodpecker Lodge and during working hours noise coming from the building works can sometimes be heard whilst you are in the back garden. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Perfect from start to finish!

Absolutely the best dog-friendly holiday cottage company I've ever come across. Our holiday at Woodpecker Lodge was perfect from start to finish, from the initial information and communications to all the dog-friendly furnishings in the extremely well-equipped cottage. Humans were very well looked after too: we enjoyed the immaculately kept hot tub, the comfortable outdoor and indoor furniture, the rainfall shower, and the thoughtful goody basket. The surroundings were exactly as described: the lovely beach was a few minutes' walk away and the bakery and fish-and-chip shop were both excellent.

Scratby 4 night break

Had a great break at Woodpecker Lodge,the property was everything you could ask for. At the end of a close and back garden & hot tub not overlooked. Short 10 mins to walk to the beach. Would recommend highly.

Great location

This visit we came midweek this gave us more opportunities to explore other areas as Woodpecker Lodge is in a good location. Lovely clean, warm and modern property. Great for our family as my dad is 93 and my hound is over 14. You really don’t need to bring much for your dogs as this property has everything. Would highly recommend.

To find somewhere that 6 adults and 6 spaniels all loved and had no complaints about must be worth shouting about! The closeness to the sea and the amount of stuff provided for the dogs made this a very easy and relaxing week. Thank you.

Gorgeous Lodge

Absolutely gorgeous and spacious bungalow with everything (and more!) needed for humans and dogs. Lovely welcome hamper, super comfy bed and great beds for dogs too. In a quiet cul-de-sac and just a 10 minute walk to the beach. Convenience store just across the road and a lovely bakery and fish & chip shop within 5 minute walk. Honestly couldn’t find fault with anything and was very sad to leave.

Ideal location for a very relaxed holiday

What a find… from initial booking a wealth of informative, helpful information was provided both to get the most out of our stay at Woodpecker lodge and nearby places to visit. The ‘lodge’ (bungalow) was clean and well equipped and very dog friendly with a secure garden. Which allowed for a restful stay without being on edge about where our dog was or what he was up to. The fabulous hot tub was very welcome after visiting the beach with the dog. About 15-20 minute walk to Scratby beach with the fabulous bakers enroute. Several dog friendly cafes nearby, well within easy walking distance, especially Angelo’s at California, probably the most dog friendly cafe we have ever visited. All in all made for a very enjoyable relaxing holiday. Would definitely recommend and would have no hesitation in booking again.

A good base to explore Norfolk

A lovely long weekend in Norfolk with family and the dogs. The location is a good place to explore. Off season so some local places were closed but we could easily get further afield. Dogs were very comfortable and were given the luxuries to make it a home from home for them. Their dog beds were extremely comfortable. The cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable for 6 people and was well equipped. Would definitely recommend.

Really lovely bungalow but Scratby leaves a lot to I be desired

Really beautiful bungalow we had a comfortable stay and everything we needed, hot tub was lovely. However we did not like Scratby at all, very disappointing and not at all our cup of tea, think we have been too spoilt in the past staying at lovely Winterton on sea just up the road, but Scratby is worlds apart and we would definitely not choose to go there again unfortunately. Can’t fault Easton Rushton cottages though, always great to deal with and the best at being dog friendly! Was a bit worried about keeping the noise of our dogs down as reactive dog next door to this bungalow too which was slightly off putting

Thank you so much for your review – we’re really glad you found the bungalow comfortable and well-equipped, and that you enjoyed the hot tub! We’re sorry to hear Scratby wasn’t quite your cup of tea. Norfolk’s coastal villages all have their own character, and while some guests love the livelier spots, others prefer the quieter charm of places such as Winterton. That’s the joy of Norfolk – so many different options within a short drive. The little lap dog next door does occasionally bark if he hears activity in the garden, but his voice is so quiet that on the odd occasion that he barks you don't really notice. Just to gently mention – we’re East Ruston Cottages, not Easton Rushton (easy mix-up, it happens a lot! [Emoji Removed]). And thank you for your kind words about us being dog friendly – that’s always our number one priority as you know. We did notice the 1/5 score for location which is very unusual for us – our average score for location is 4.8 out of 5 for Woodpecker Lodge, Scratby. We completely understand that every village isn’t for everyone though, and we really appreciate your feedback. Hopefully, we’ll welcome you back to one of our other cottages in a spot that’s more to your taste next time!

A wonderful short break !

We have stayed at Woodpecker last year and wanted another quick break away. 5 stars for this stay, to being very clean and contemporary modern, the hot tub and all amenities needed on site for your dogs to stay. The beach is very close and dog friendly along with the local shops and pubs. The owners of the Woodpecker are very responsive and helpful if anything is needed, we needed some directions the first time we stayed our call was answered straight away. Recommended to all dog owners, the dog beds provided are very nice, large and high quality, toys in the garage to take out with you and crates if needed, there’s also a dog pram which is amazing. Don’t hesitate to book here you won’t be disappointed! Thank you

Beautiful bungalow with every comfort possible.

Immaculately presented with some lovely touches like electric reclining sofas, Sky TV, hot tub, comfy beds. Everything you could need is supplied, lovely dog beds and sofa covers. We drove to the beach as have elderly dogs but not far to walk if you have more active dogs. I was surprised that there was always parking available (free) right by the beach. Very peaceful walks and quiet area. Great communication by the owner too. Highly recommended.
