This semi-detached cottage boasts a spectacular position nestled into the bay overlooking Loch Carron with Slumbay island on the doorstep. Within walking distance are various local amenities or use Lochcarron as an excellent base to tour further afield.
Relax and take in the surrounding in the garden or cosy up by the fire in the living room.
The space This traditional Highland cottage, built in the 1800s, is bursting with character and is a peaceful and comfortable haven to wind down in. It is semi-detached with its own private entrance (the middle red door in the main picture). My daughter and her partner stay in the house next door (on the left) and you would be sharing a freezer and laundry facilities in the shed (the door on the far right) and spacious enclosed garden with them and their cat Ruadh.
Outside there are benches and outdoor furniture for you to relax on. Inside there are two floors.
Downstairs there is a comfortable living room with TV, open coal fire and dining table that can be extended if you need more space for dining, working or playing board games. There is a well equipped galley kitchen with fridge, microwave and freestanding cooker. There are also plenty of utensils and crockery provided for home cooking. A door off the kitchen leads to a new shower room.
Upstairs has a double bedroom with storage and stunning views over the loch. Also, there is a toilet upstairs in a bathroom with a small traditional bath. There is total control electric heating throughout the house and a coal fire to keep cosy. The Wifi code will be provided on arrival.
Sorry we cannot accommodate any pets. Maximum 2 guests, however a baby would be welcomed and a travel cot can be provided
This is a much loved family cottage and we hope you treat it as your home away from home and adore the location as much as we do. Guest access Guests have access to their entire house as well as the laundry shed and the garden, including washing line. The black shed and wood stores are private. Other things to note Saturday to Saturday bookings usually but we can be flexible .
We loved staying at Mairi's house. The view is exceptionnal and we enjoyed getting up everyday surrounded by the mountains and the Loch. The Loch is right at the end of the garden and we had some nice walks around. There are many nice places to visit in the area.
The house has the charm of old houses and we especially enjoyed the open fire. Had it not been the end of the holidays, we would have gladly stayed longer!
The house was perfect for two people. It had everything we needed to be comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped for what we needed for the week. Having the downstairs shower was an added bonus. The decor had a lovely Scottish feel and the views added to this. It is in a peaceful location which is perfect for viewing the area. The hosts were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It was a lovely week.
Fabulous place right on the loch. Host was helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Cosy cottage which was a lovely haven to come back to after visiting some fabulous local places, doing great walks and seeing lots of local wildlife. Northern lights from the garden was the cherry on top.
The cottage was lovely to stay in with everything you need to make you feel at home.
Also it is perfectly located by the Loch shore with views across to the hills and is away from main roads so quietness prevails.
Great stay with breathtaking views in a cosy cottage.
The cottage is very cosy. The view from the front windows are breathtaking. 'Like living in a postcard'. There is a good comfy bed. I cannot comment on the twin beds in the downstairs back bedroom. The kitchen is small but well appointed. The freezer, washing machine and dryer are in a separate room and shared with the house next door. This was not a problem. The bathroom is perfectly functional with a small bath and no overhead shower. All in all my wife and I enjoyed our stay, ably supported by our host Maire.
We had a great time at this cosy cottage. We booked to stay at that moment, because it seemed that the week would give rains. We choose this cottage because of the views and the woodburner. Unexpected beautiful wether ... So we enjoyed moments of sitting in the sun in the garden. The beds slept well, the woodburner was great, all equipment was there to enjoy staying at the cottage. Even a rocking chair! I loved to sit on that chair.
We got good information and nice tips from Mairie, but especially from her daughter and boyfriend who are living next door. Hiking: the circuit of about 10 km (4 hrs) at north west of lochcarron at the hill 'head of a man", was a very nice one. Driving the beautiful roads to Applecross. You may see some Scottisch Higlanders. stop at the award winning smokery and buy some good tasting products. FRom there you can also hike a nice circuit. If you want to lunch/dinner at Applecross better reservate. On tuesdays they are closed. Just before reaching applecross you may find " The Walled Garden". with a restaurant/bar and nice places to sit inside as well as outside. Opened on tuesdays.
Plockton is a very beautiful place to go to! as well as the famous Ealien Donan Castle. The Attadale gardens we found disapointing. Don't expect flowerbeds or something like that.
We played golf at loch carron. Because the road is between the holes we found it quit difficult because of the safety of the traffic. We dis lose a lot of balls ;-)
A nice restaurant which we would recommand is The Bistro in Lochcarron.
Sehr schöne Umgebung -
Haus im klassischen englischen Baustil
einziger Minuspunkt:
Eine Dusche ist nicht im Badezimmer
vorhanden, nur ein Provisorium.
Great place to stay. A nice old cottage with loads of character. The area is spot on as lochcarron has more amenities than you generally find in the north west Highlands.
Old worlde cottage right next to the loch. Equipped with everything you need for a comfy stay. Lacked a big picture window of the pricier properties, and our bath was a bit small- but the beds were comfy which is crucial in holiday accommodation. We had a great holiday and we will stay at the property again in the future. We visited Skye, Torridon, the wonderful Applecross via the magnificent Bealach na Ba, and Loch Ewe- all within easy driving distance.
It was very well located on the Loch. We would have liked a good shower in the property but think this would probably be quite difficult to install in the property. Bed very comfortable and kitchen very well equipped
Mairi was lovely lady and was really helpful. The property was lovely and in the most gorgeous spot imaginable. Hopefully we will be able to come back soon!
Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely little cottage we loved it.

This cottage is very well situated and you can wake up in the morning and view the loch through the bedroom window! The cottage hasnât been modernised since the 1960s/70s but is all the better for it! However, storage heaters keep it warm and if you want you can light a fire in the sitting room. It is very cosy if cold and wet outdoors. Lots to do in and around Lochcarron and Skye is about a 30-40 minute drive. Scenery stunning! Take your walking boots. Would happily stay there again.
