Prices are fully inclusive of breakfast. Melody House and Melody Cottage were built around the start of the 14th century as a much larger residence than stands here today. It housed Gt Ryburgh Magnar's Guild Hall under the priory of Walsingham.
Ryburgh Magnar was a very powerful garrison settlement set along the banks of the beautiful River Wensum. It also had 3 fortified manor houses built in close vicinity. Its famous Saxon church with its round tower only stands 200 yards away. From 1656 the Guild Hall under went a great number of works to improve its structure after a fire removed its whole south wing and the introduction of window tax required the loss of a great number of its windows, a grand new gable end was added.
It was then sub-divided into 9 smaller tenement cottages.
It also housed the village provision stores for nearly 400 years and a number of smaller retail outlets.
There are folk law stories of priest stairs and underground tunnels leading to the church and the odd thing that goes bump in the night.
Excellent bed and breakfast makes us return year on year
Another excellent stay at Melody House, our third. First rate, spotless accomodation with super breakfast menu. Good choice to suit all tastes. Off road parking to the rear of the property.
Perfect for a one night stay. The location is slightly outside of the city centre so you will need a car to get around. It was clean with a modern bathroom.
Very welcoming and lovely owners and a wonderful B and B!
The whole place was truly wonderful find !Lovely owners who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Fabulous dining room with some fascinating artifacts and memorabilia of the arts. Super room and a gorgeous breakfast thank you Audrey and Chris we will be back !!
Very clean and great ambience, a very traditional establishment, Audrey has lots of memorabilia from her entertainment days and 40's style nostalgia, great breakfast, presentation best I have seen. Looked like a nice bar, however we did not use, managed to park in rear of property two out of three nights, first night safe on main road. Very quite village, Fakenham nearest facilities.
When we first arrived at Melody House we were slightly worried about the outside appearance. We absolutely need not have doubted about what lay behind the front door. This is a beautifully unique, cosy, comfortable and stylish establishment. The owner and her son could not have made us more welcome or offered anything extra to make our stay more enjoyable. The bedroom, bathroom and public areas were delightful and the breakfast, served using pretty bone china, was delicious.
