Cozy cottage in a great location
This cottage was perfect for our weekend getaway to visit MDI and hike a few trails around Acadia National Park. We loved being able to bring our pup with us. The cottage was exactly what we needed: a spacious living area, a kitchen with all of the necessary tools to make meals, and a warm comfortable bed. Being able to drive a few minutes to see the sunset at Bass Harbor Light was a bonus. Highly recommended for your trip to MDI!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an enthusiastic response! It was a pleasure to have you here and, once again, we are
reassured that dog owners can be very responsible guests. We hope
you will return!
We visited in October and very much enjoyed our stay. Cottage was nice and comfortable and everything worked. I thought the pictures accurately depicted the cottage. If anything, I would say that the cottage seemed larger than the pictures led me to believe it would be. We had plenty of space for the two of us and our small dog. Owners were pleasant and responsive. We did not have any special needs or concerns during our stay so we pretty much were in and out without much contact. Glad we chose the cottage.
Kitchen had all we needed, bath was fine and warm thanks to powerful heater. We used the small portable grill and the fireplace (local bundled firewood did not burn well...gave in and bought some Duraflames). We really enjoyed the quiet side of island and we were pleasantly surprised by two nearby trails (Wonderland and Ships Harbor). Both were short but well worth the time. We did more rigorous hikes but enjoyed these two with the Dachshund. Lighthouse was nice, too, but busy at sunset - turned around. We later went twice in mornings and drove right in. We had easy drive to Bar Harbor and grocery shopped there. Acadia is great. We thought Jordan Pond trail was too crowded, but it was easy. We enjoyed the Beech Mtn trail and found it challenging enough for our ages. Great views. South Bubble was a lot for us but we did most of it. Bar Harbor was terrific. Nothing but good things to say about our experiences. Our fourth National Park and pleased as ever. I am glad some of our taxes go to managing these parks - they are well run, beautiful, and are great places for all of us to visit.
Quaint cottage with deck and yard in a garden-like setting.
Located on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. Easy acess to Acadia Park and lots of hidden gems along the way. Milagro coffee shop in South Harbor and Japanese Public Garden in Northeast Harbor. Everything was provided for food prep and was in good working order. Plenty of towels and linens available. Cozy place to relax after long day of hiking or sight seeing.
Hosts were very friendly and pleasant. Would recommend this place for those wanting a quiet get-away within 30 minutes of all the tourist sites on MDI.
Nice, peaceful and quite place to stay
We stayed here on our honeymoon. They left a congratulations card on the table which was a sweet touch!
It is a lovely little cottage with just the right amount of typical Maine cottage gardens out front. The ferry is right behind it and there's a restaurant within walking distance (didn't realize we were that close to the ferry until the last few days).
A bit of a drive to Acadia but there are plenty of things to do near the cottage. We spent most days in Acadia and didn't mind the drive to much.
The kitchen is fairly well stocked, bathroom is nice but bring your own towels.
We would definitely stay again!
Thanks for your review! I'm glad it worked out so well for you. I appreciate your comments about the towels...I clearly need to take a critical look at them and see that they are replaced ASAP!
A great stay in the perfect cottage for our needs
We stayed in Eleanor & Sandy’s Roost apartment last year and had a lovely stay, so when we noticed that their Cottage was available we jumped on it. Like the Roost, it was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed. I didn’t realize this when I booked, but this property has two decks in addition to lawn space, which was perfect for a family with a toddler. The front deck is nice and sunny and looks out on a row of rugosa roses - a really nice spot for morning coffee and quiet conversation after our son went to bed. The back deck is more private and has a partial view of the harbor. On our last night we ordered a few lobsters from Thurstons (across the harbor) and enjoyed them on the back deck - highly recommend this! It was a perfect Maine send-off after a week full of activity. The living area is spacious and the kitchen had all we needed. Eleanor and Sandy were gracious and generous hosts - there was a torrential storm on one of our days there and it interefered with the WiFi. They went to great lengths to troubleshoot the issue, and we had no further problems the rest of the week. This was a lucky find and was exactly what we needed.
Thank you so much for your comments! It was a pleasure to have your family here and I'm glad that you enjoyed the Cottage so much. It's nice to have two decks because each offers a different view.
