Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Located in Caithness, the tranquil community of Halkirk is sometimes referred to as the "first planned village in Scotland." It boasts stunning views of the surrounding moors and the North Sea, as well as easy access to the Moray Coast. The town of Halkirk has a few conveniences, such as a small village tavern, a shop selling local produce, and a hotel with a restaurant. The town of Halkirk provides a convenient base from which to explore the rest of the Northern Highlands. John O'Groats is only 25 miles away, and the nearby towns of Durness and Smoo Cave, Cape Wrath, and the Durness Golf Course are well worth a trip. To see Orkney, hop on the daily boat that leaves from a port near The Castle of Mey. Halkirk is the perfect place for a peaceful getaway, filled with walks and birdwatching, thanks to its breath-taking views of the surrounding moorlands and glens. Moreover, Thurso is only a short drive away and features a wider variety of services.
