Back garden with BBQ and garden furniture. Bike store. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking.. Hope House is a picture-perfect country cottage sitting in the heart of the village, Middleton Tyas. This honey-stone home is a cottage to kick back, cook, gather, and enjoy, with space for ten guests, in five bedrooms on the first and second floor. On the ground floor the characterful kitchen is the place to cook and the living area with sofas and adjoining dining area the place to gather. Interiors have been carefully chosen, with botanical inspiration and muted tones to create a calming country cottage.
There is a large garden, with borders that boast glorious Yorkshire blooms in the spring and summer months, restoring and hibernating in the winter months. Two cars can be parked in the private driveway too. Hope House residents can bring food with them or do an online supermarket order ahead of arrival. Close by is a corner shop, a short two-minute walk away and a classic country pub just a short wander around the hill. Hope House is in a great location with various market towns close by. Richmond is a local market town, with one of the best-preserved Norman castles in the country. There are lovely walks along the old railway line next to the river to Easby Abbey, and you can grab an ice cream at the old station (which also houses a lovely cinema).
Leyburn is another pretty market town - with lovely antique shops and cafés - and for the more serious antique lover check out the auctions at Tennants. From there, you could head up to Hawes which is also very pretty, and nearby wensleydale (famous for their cheese). For walkers Reeth, Gunnerside and Arkengarthdale have fantastic views across the hills and down dales, a proper pub for a pint afterwards and great ice cream in Reeth. If you have your bike with you there are excellent off-road tracks around Reeth, or Tour de Yorkshire worthy hill climbs between Swaledale and Wensleydale.
Further afield is Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey (40 minutes) and is a must for a day out, Newby Hall (35minutes) with its beautiful gardens and fun for the children, or head to the palatial Castle Howard (1hour) to play spot the film location. Barnard Castle has another ruined castle to explore, and Bowes Museum is well worth a visit (don’t miss the silver swan automaton) - a French chateau of a building in the middle of a Durham market town, a V&A of the north and it was picked to hold the only Yves Saint Laurent exhibition in the country. The town itself is also very pretty. For any history buffs there is a Roman fort just round the corner at Piercebridge and the remains of one of the most important iron age forts at Stanwick. There really is so much to do and see at Hope house you will struggle to fit everything in so why not book an extra few days!
