Pass the Keys | Charming Country Cottage With Spectacular Views
About this space
This delightful cottage nestled in the heart of the South Downs has far reaching views of a beautiful Downland valley farm. Experience peace and quiet with the Sussex country right outside your window! Sleeping up to 4 people, it is the perfect base for hiking or cycling in the South Downs, attending a Goodwood event, or just exploring this beautiful part of Sussex and the beaches and coastline of Chichester Harbor. With many local pubs nearby, this cottage offers a perfect country retreat.
The space
The cottage is part of a larger country home as seen in the pictures. I may down on weekends but you probably won't see us as the cottage is very private and you have your own space. There is a little area right against the farmers' field where you can sit down and enjoy a sundowner or maybe a barbecue in quiet privacy.
Inside, you'll find a modern kitchen equipped with an oven, electric hob, fridge, microwave, kettle, and toaster. Pass through the hall to the inviting sitting room, featuring a comfortable sofa bed (Available upon request - suitable for 2 children or one adult) and smart TV.
The front door leads to a modern country kitchen with everything you need. This leads into the sitting room which has an incredibly comfortable and large sofa bed, good enough for two adults. The cottage is perfect for a couple with two children and although 4 adults can sleep comfortably here, please note that the cottage might be a bit small for 4 adults on a longer stay. From the sitting room you then access the bedroom with a king size bed. The bathroom is located in between the kitchen and the sitting room. There are spectacular views from the sitting room and bedroom of the valley.
Guest access
There is parking for one car outside the cottage, and another car can be parked on the lane. The cottage is all on one level. The nearby villages of Stoughton and Walderton both have lovely walks and pretty country pubs .
Other things to note
* Standard check-in time is 4pm onwards and check-out time is before 10am. * Please note a fee of £100 for lost keys and £50 for call outs if locked out.
Supermarkets
The Village Shop and Tea Rooms in Compton (3 miles) There is a small Village Store and also a Co-Op 3 miles away in Westbourne. Adsdean Farm Shop in Funtington (approximately 2.2 miles away) sells their own locally reared beef and pork, and also sources other meat, game and produce from other local farms. The Grange Farm Shop (also in Funtington) sells local produce as well as the gourmet freezer to oven range from Cook. The Farm Shop at Stansted Park (4.3 miles) sells a lot of local Sussex produce. Larger supermarkets can be found in Havant (7 miles South West) or Chichester (8 miles South East).
Local Restaurants
The Barley Mow is a six minute walk away in Walderton. A traditional country pub, it offers home cooked pub food and local ales. The Hare and Hounds in Stoughton is 1 mile away. Both pubs offer cosy interiors as well as outside seating for the warm summer months. Great places to rest your weary legs after a long day walking in the Downs! The Victoria Inn, West Marden is 2.3 miles and there are many more pubs with restaurants within a few miles of the annexe.
Local Attractions
The property is on a footpath and bridleway giving ready access to the numerous hiking and mountain biking routes in the immediate area. Highlights are Kingley Vale and The South Downs Way. Uppark House and Gardens (National Trust) is only 5.7 miles away and well worth a visit. Uppark's Georgian interiors illustrate the comfort of life ‘upstairs’, in contrast with the ‘downstairs’ world of the servants. A highlight of their collection is one of the best examples of an 18th-century dolls' house in the country. Stansted Park (4.3 miles away) encompasses a large Edwardian mansion and parkland with arboretum. The House is only open from Easter until the end of September, but the Park is open year round, being home to an arboretum with a small railway, maze, as well as a garden centre, farm shop and cafes. Stoughton, only 1 mile away offers a lovely gateway to the South Downs, where you can walk for miles exploring the hills, forest and enjoy some tremendous views over the Chichester Harbor to the South. On a clear day you can even see to the Isle of Wight! The Goodwood Estate, world renowned for its motor racing events and horse race course is 8.3 miles away, and well worth a visit for one of the events. The Roman town of Chichester is 8 miles away, and its pedestrian centre is home to boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries and The Chichester Cathedral with its unique separate bell tower. Bird watchers might spot the Peregrine Falcons nesting in the tower. Just 6.5 miles away is Bosham, famously in the Bayeux Tapestry and where King Canute tried to hold back the tides! A lovely afternoon can be spent wandering around the harbor, the craft centre and popping into one of the cafes or the Anchor Bleu pub. No trip to the area would be complete without a visit to West Wittering Beach and Chichester Harbor! Just 14 miles away, it is well worth the 30 minute drive (much longer on a hot summer's day though!). West Wittering beach is a beautiful, sandy, blue flag beach and is in a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is largely undeveloped retaining its natural beauty and there is plenty of parking. It is perfect for walkers, swimmers, paddle boards and kite surfers.
