À propos de cet hébergement
The Drovers Cabin - a chalet that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
A unique off grid property with no electricity
This former Drovers Cabin which has retained many of its original features including the original, now decommissioned gas lights, is completely ‘off-grid' and offers life at a different pace. With stunning views over the surrounding Galloway landscape and only the local wildlife and livestock in the adjacent fields for neighbours, peace and tranquillity are guaranteed.
This unique, traditional cabin offers basic, but spacious comfortable accommodation away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Set in a remote, rural location approximately 2 miles along a rough, rocky but maintained farm track, (please note that it is not suitable for Motor Homes or vehicles with a low suspension). The cabin offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and general exploring.
A true wilderness property with no ‘mod cons'. As there is no electricity there is no WiFi or TV, lighting is supplied by battery torches or firelight, bottled LPG gas ensures that there is a plentiful supply of hot water for washing and bathing and to cook a hot meal after a hard day spent exploring, an open fire in the sitting room and additional wood burning stove in the hallway ensure that cabin is warm and cosy for those chiller evenings or winter breaks.
There is free fly fishing available on the nearby Fellcroft Lochan for 2 rods on a catch and release basis, use of the owners tennis courts is also included by prior arrangement and subject to availability.
In the local village is Dundrenann Abbey. A ruined Cistercian abbey where Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night in Scotland before being imprisoned in the Tower of London. The village also has a small tea room in the former village pub (check for seasonal opening hours). The Artists town of Kirkcudbright is a short drive away. Here you will find many interesting independent shops and art galleries hidden along its narrow closes. Broughton House and Garden, a National Trust for Scotland property are well worth a visit. For the young at heart Cream O'Galloway is within a 25-minute drive, not only do they produce organic ice cream and cheese with milk from their own dairy herd, but have several nature walks, and offer various cheese and ice cream making workshops throughout the year. Slightly further afield in Twynholm is The Cocoa Bean Factory where children can participate in chocolate workshops, there are also indoor & outdoor play areas. (The hot chocolate is a must!) For the more adventurous Loch Ken Activity Centre offer land and water-based activities. For those who simply want to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings there are plenty of opportunities for walking, be it hill cliff top or forest. Wildlife surrounds the cabin; you can relax on the spacious gravelled area and enjoy the tranquil setting with outstanding views and sunsets and the varied bird life. Although not within the Dark Skies Park, star gazing is outstanding as there is very little light pollution. Sandy beaches are within easy reach at The Dhoon, Brighouse Bay, Carrick and Sandgreen.
