Lake Superior Wonderful Hideaway
Amazing, clean and comfortable house perched on a bluff in the woods above Lake Superior. So quiet and beautiful. A great kitchen with the best stove and refrigerator.
Plus riding the tram to the docks and beach is magical,
Besides avoiding 125 steps you get a breathtaking view going down and back up.
Sunsets on Madeline
This is a wonderful property to visit for the best sunset views on the Island. The hosts are accessible, and the grounds are easy to navigate and well kept up. The tram mentioned is terrific - but the stairs are manageable, too. The dock/pier is substantial, so it was fun to venture out on even during windy days with big waves!
I was expecting more of a view of the lake from the cabin, but (of course) there are many trees that (at least when we went in the late summer) are full-on leafy, so you just see slivers of it. I'd say that when you're 'in' the cabin, and nearby, the view is of the grounds and the surrounding forest.
The cabin/house is very comfortable - it's like being in a 'new' house. Decor is cabin-y/northwoods. I'm used to (very) older cabins, so it felt luxurious for Madeline Island! The upstairs does have two bedrooms, but one of them is basically connected to the main room so no windows (more like a huge closet ... huge!). I think it'd be fine if it was a family up there - but I wouldn't recommend it for two adult parties to count on being upstairs (but that's just my opinion). The downstairs bedroom has two double/queen beds, so again, fine for a family sharing space. Both bathrooms are nice; water pressure was great, too.
We were a little disappointed in the housekeeping, but who knows, might have just been a big group in front of us so some details got missed. I did not ask for more help on that ... we just did some on our own. In the big picture of the lovely house, I didn't want to bother the Owners. Unfortunately, the gas fireplace wasn't working while we were there, and we did miss morning fires with our coffee.
We love to cook/have appetizers and happy hour, etc., and the set-up worked super well for that - there's a kind of patio off the side where 2 or 3 people could sit and chat. The BBQ is nice and big. If you're a cook/baker on your vacay, this is your spot for sure - the kitchen is very well-appointed including a hand mixer (yay!), and a waffle maker (yay! for wild blueberry waffles). Basic pans are all there - we didn't need anything. Knives were fine, and nice dishes and flatware. I brought up my own mixer for cocktails.
I do recommend this spot for someone who wants the Madeline Island experience with a touch of ease and a lot of comfort. It was very easy to move in/out of with bags - that was appreciated, too.
Great Madeline Island Rental
We spent a week at this cabin. The time went way to fast. This rental allows the guests to experience a private Northwood vacation on the shores of Lake Superior. The cabin is very nice, comfortable and very well equipped with high end amenities. The tram, spacious dock, kayaks and canoes, and beautiful sandy beach makes for endless hours of water enjoyment. The kids told me it was the best days of their life. Thanks Larry for being so helpful in making our vacation so memorable.
Our family had a wonderful time reconnecting at this hidden treasure of a spot on the island. Hours of beach combing, swimming, and kayaking were highlights of our stay. Wonderful hosts at this beautiful oasis.
Fun place to gather. Plenty of space, comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. Lovely kitchen appliances and essentials, despite the invasion of flies which no one can control, so the flyswapper was very handy. Never used the dishwasher, but plenty of water pressure for showers and plenty of towels. Thanks Larry for sharing. Tennessee Lady
