Beautiful Barn in rural Somerset, close to the coast, with stunning views

During lockdown we have renovated and updated our guest house. We are excited to welcome you to our idyllic rural retreat, far away from the hustle, bustle and stresses of everyday life. The top floor of the Barn has been lovingly converted with a big bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and large sitting room. The Barn is incredibly light and airy with beautiful views throughout that make you feel as though you are among the trees. It truly is the perfect country escape.

The Barn has a large and wild garden that is totally private, with outdoor furniture; perfect for alfresco dinning. We have two dogs and a cat, they are all very friendly. You are welcome to bring your friendly pets. (The barn has a double room with a double bed but is very spacious so there is plenty of room for a travel cot. The large sitting room has a sofa bed too.)

The Barn is very close to a number of really special properties and national trust houses (Forde Abbey, Montecute, Barrington, etc). We are a 35 minute drive from the stunning Jurassic Coastline. Depending on restrictions there are many award winning restaurants and pubs a short distance away. We are happy to let you know more about any activities that you may be interested in.

We are a family of five and live in a separate house in the grounds, the Barn is self contained and not overlooked by us. We are happy to help you with anything to ensure that you have the happiest stay, just let us know!

From the Barn there are lots of walks if you wish to explore the local countryside and we are happy to give you directions to our favourite countryside spots!
We love the Barn and hope you will fall in love with it too and will do everything we can to ensure that you have a happy trip in the South West.

Fantastic place in a great area.

We have absolutely loved spending a long weekend there. Our daughter is already asking when can we go back ☺️ . Very dog friendly and just a magical place. Also close to some beautiful beaches.

Peaceful barn

We stayed at the barn for a 3 night stopover on the way to Cornwall Heather and Angus are very welcoming as are their 2 lovely dogs Pip and MabelThe hamlet of Chaffcombe is very pretty and we had a peaceful and relaxing time sitting in the wonderful private garden belonging to the property. We felt quite remote,which we like, but within easy reach of Sidmouth and Ford Abbey gardens which we visited Burrow Hill gardens is also nearby and worth a visit -amazing views

A beautiful property in a wonderful very rural location. So peaceful. Listening to so much birdsong, watching deer and pheasants in the surrounding fields. What more could you need. Friendly hosts with lovely pets, Maple, Pip and Ron. We will definitely return.

I had an amazing stay at the beautiful barn hosted by Heather and Angus. They both made me feel very welcome and went out of their way to make sure I had all I needed. Inside, it's beautifully designed with extras such as a heated mattress, and woodstove burner (with a big supply of logs and kindling) to make the stay extra cosy. The views are also lovely and it's beautifully light. The location is also great, about 25 minutes to the coast for beach and hill walks, as well as wood walks at Castle Neroche. A visit to the monsastry of Forde Abbey is also worth a visit if you like beautiful gardens with the odd roaming cow! I had such a lovely break. Only three days but the reset I needed and quality time with my dogs! Thank you Heather and Angus!

Beautiful rural location

Was a lovely quaint stable/barn conversion. Equipped with everything we needed.The log fire and electric blanket were very welcomed. Well heated. Very peaceful location. Our host Heather made us very welcome and on hand if we needed anything. Would definitely recommend this stay. Julie Warren

Ein kleines Paradies. Ausstattung, Sauberkeit, WLAN, alles bestens.Sehr ruhig gelegen in einem wunderbaren Grundstück. Vermieter ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit, dennoch angenehm zurückhaltend.Zwei sehr freundliche Hunde, die auf dem Grundstück gelegentlich herumlaufen, absolut nicht störend. Günstige Lage für Ausflüge in alle Himmelsrichtungen.Wir waren dort ausgesprochen glücklich.

Kerst in een stalwoning

Heel vriendelijk ontvangen door Heather en haar man. Mooie stadswoning, ruimte genoeg voor 2 met een heerlijke houtkachel om het lekker warm te stoken. Je bent lekker helemaal op jezelf in een mooie omgeving. En als je iets nodig hebt hoef je het maar te vragen. Kortom een geweldige kerstweek gehad.

Really relaxing few days. Host very welcoming but was discreet during our stay. Property was clean if a little ‘tired’ . Property well equipped on the whole. Glorious location in Chaffcombe and not Cricket Malherbie as advertised! Only -ve issue we had was with Vrbo’s app being unable to handle a change to our length stay. Fortunately our host was on hand t sort it. Would definitely return.

Hidden Gem

Idyllic hideaway surrounded by fields and fresh air with lots of outside space for our dog to run around. The Stable Loft has been tastefully furnished with interesting features. We had gorgeous weather so didn't need to use the log burner. We didn't meet Heather and Angus but they left all the information we needed and used many if their recommendations on where to go and where to eat. We also met Maple and Pip who were super friendly. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Erholung pur in toller Umgebung!

Wir haben in Blenda House einen unserer schönsten Urlaube verbracht. Das weitläufige Anwesen ist großartig, der umgebaute Stall, in dem die Ferienwohnung liegt, wunderschön, geschmackvoll eingerichtet, mit allem versehen, was man braucht und heizt sich auch bei sehr warmem Wetter nicht zu sehr auf. Zur Ferienwohnung gehört ein reizender Garten hinter dem Haus mit Sitzgruppe und Liegen. Wunderschön ist auch die landschaftliche Umgebung. Sie lädt zu Wanderungen und Spaziergängen im Inland oder an der nicht weit entfernten Küste, mit ihren schönen langen Stränden ein oder zu Ausflügen mit dem Auto. Für normale Radausflüge, zumindest weitere, ist die Gegend zu hügelig, mit dem Pedelec ist es allerdings kein Problem! Im Umkreis gibt es viele gute Cafés und Restaurants, z.B. im netten Ilminster. Die Gastgeber sind furchtbar nett und aufmerksam und die beiden Hunde, Pip und Maple sowie Kater Ron lassen das Herz des Tierliebhabers höher schlagen. Absolut empfehlenswert! We spent one of our best vacations at Blenda House. The extensive grounds are magnificent, the converted barn that the apartment is in is beautiful, tastefully decorated, has everything you need and doesn't get too hot even in very warm weather. The apartment has a lovely garden behind the house with a seating area and loungers. The surrounding countryside is also beautiful. It invites you to go for hikes and walks inland or on the not far away coast with its beautiful long beaches or for trips by car. The area is too hilly for normal bike trips, at least longer ones, but with the pedelec it's no problem! There are many good cafés and restaurants in the area, e.g. in nice Ilminster. The hosts are terribly nice and attentive and the two dogs, Pip and Maple as well as Ron the cat make the animal lover's heart beat faster. Highly Recommended!

A real gem in the countryside....

Heather has created a tranquil place in a lovely, tranquil setting. The accommodation is spacious and clean and has all you need for a few days away. It's in a lovely rural setting with loads of walks from the doorstep - all in all a great place for a country getaway! Would love to return sometime soon!

Tranquility at its best!!

We had an amazing stay at the barn in Chaffcombe. So incredibly peaceful and tranquil, exactly what we needed. Our hosts, Heather and Angus, were awesome!! So incredibly friendly, and gave us great insights into the community and wider surroundings, as well as places to visit, eat at, drink at etc. Everything about the barn was outstanding. Special mention must also go to Pip and Maple (the dogs) and Ron (the cat), who were great fun!!

Secluded & beautiful setting

My husband and I spent 3 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Heather and her husband were very friendly as were their dogs, who had lots of fun playing with our Lab! The barn was kitted out with all the essentials and was a lovely, cosy place to stay. The view from every window was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting out on the mini balcony by the front door, marvelling at how very quiet and peaceful it was. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a remote (but still within easy reach of amenities) and peaceful place to stay.

Fantastic trip

Just back from a fantastic trip to Cricket Malherbie near Chard. This property is a converted stable in the grounds of the owners’ house, which at one time was the local rectory. It has been beautifully converted. You have a large, comfortable bedroom. An excellent bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen has everything you will require if you decide to eat in. The sitting room is stylishly furnished and is very comfortable. There is also a TV with numerous cable channels to choose from - not that you come on holiday to watch TV. Outside you have exclusive use of a large garden, which at this time of year, is covered in beautiful wild flowers. Our two border terriers loved running round alongside the owner’s two friendly dogs. There are excellent walks from the house. You are also well placed to visit the Dorset Coast or various National Trust properties. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful, but otherwise leave you to enjoy your holiday. We absolutely loved it and hope to return.

Lovely Countryside retreat

Excellent accomodation in a lovely location surrounded by open countryside. Thoroughly enjoyed our short break, very quiet peaceful location with the coast 30 mins away and great pubs for eating out. The property is much more open and spacious that the photos suggest, would definatley recommend. Heather and Angus were very welcoming and helpful.

Simple, rustic and immensely charming and with everything you need.

Very occasionally you stay in a place that immediately feels familar, friendly and reflective of who you are. The barn did that for us and we spent a very happy few days tootling about that very beautiful part of the country. We were lucky enough to have a warm sunny day which we spent walking locally then lunch in the garden surrounded by primroses and celandine. We were visited by Pip and Maple who are both super friendly and seemed to enjoy having new friends staying next door. Meeting Heather and Angus was a complete pleasure and we felt very lucky to have found such a gem that they were happy to share. Thank you!
