Lovely Victorian style house with plenty of bedrooms and big open living areas and kitchens. Close to Buxton town centre with its many pubs, we had a lovely stay over a weekend
Beautiful house. Lots of en suite bathrooms. Great location, easy parking and no more than 15 mins walk from most things. Don't forget to bring your own towels.
Lots of space for large groups, very conveniently located near to the park, shops and pubs. Kitchen was well stocked and basics like loo roll were provided which aren't always. There was some general maintenance needed though e.g new toilet seat needed on only downstairs toilet, repairs to tiled which were a bit dangerous, access to fire door. It was also frustrating that it said it had an outside space. It did but we couldn't use it. It also had PlayStation which didn't work. Would be worth updating the facilities if they are not aavailable. Despite this we had a great stay, I would recommend to large groups as it was reasonably priced.
We booked this as a place for 5 groups - 3 of which with children - to all get together under 1 roof. We planned who would be in which room based on the details listed of what was in each room and had asked for a Travel Cot to be available. When we arrived, we found that 3 of the rooms were not as listed - 2 only had one bed rather than the 2 that were listed, and one had a double and single, rather than the double listed. we also couldn't find the travel cot we'd requested. On ringing I was told they'd see if they could find an extra bed somewhere, and that they had the travel cot and would pass this through to us. From what we could understand the house runs as a guest house and somewhere you can book as a whole and due to this, someone lives downstairs in the basement who has permanant access to the house - he passed the travel cot through a door that was at the top of the basement stairs. This door locked from his side, but meant he could come in at any time should he wish - something our whole party felt very uncomfortable with given it was never advertised as this. Travel cot sorted however, they then told us they had no extra bed but could offer us an alternative house one of the families could stay in for an extra charge a night - given we'd already paid a good sum for the weekend this wasn't really an option - so we hunted out an air bed. All in all it was not as we expected and meant we started what was meant to be a fun weekend away stressfully resolving bedroom issues.
Had a long weekend in Buxton with wider family. Place was in a good location, and well sized for everyone to have their space. Make sure you take the key out the lockbox, we had a couple of people on different days turn up and try to get into the house due to double bookings. If we hadn't been in they would have had access to all our stuff.
A lovely spacious house in an excellent location. A nice big kitchen for everyone to chill after a dayâs outing, stocked with plenty of essential implements. Everyone was very pleased with their accommodation.
Really lovely break with extended family. Property was excellent, really spacious rooms and well appointed. Great kitchen for cooking and sharing family meals. Location brilliant for both access to town and it's restaurants aswell as for walks out into the Peak District country side
Great location for exploring Buxton and the Peak District
A university reunion brought eleven of us together in Buxton. Compton house is a well proportioned house - the kitchen is where we mostly hung out sharing food, wine and laughter around the lovely big table. The bedrooms were ok, some of the bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were a bit tired looking, ok but not luxurious. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc.
We paid a lot to rent the house and were disappointed when we had to bring our own towels, a small thing but one that irritated some of the group.
Overall, we had a lovely weekend, Compton house accommodated us ok but we wouldnât rush back.
