Funky beach shack off-the-grid @ Kooringal
Two-bedroom funky beach shack off-the-grid @ Kooringal.
Shack@37 is the perfect holiday shack to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and chill by the crystal-clear water of Moreton Island, 4WD adventure in Gheebulum Kunungai National Park and stroll on the sand and forest tracks in the town's surrounds.
This two-bedroom, one bathroom beach shack has heaps of unique character harnessing the 70âs vibe of the Island but updated with hip modern appeal.
The Queenslander style house on stilts catches the Island breeze on its front veranda which looks over trees with filters views of the sunset and is perfect for an afternoon beverage.
The upstairs of the house has two bedrooms including a coupleâs bedroom with a double bed and a large room with two bunkbeds, a simple clean bathroom with a shower and basin, a separate toilet with Basin, and a cosy lounge with woodfire heater and plenty of games and puzzles to relax and play.
The underneath of the house offers an open decked area enclosed from the elements but open and connected to the outdoors. Here there is a new kitchen with a gas oven and stove, BBQ facilities, a large dining table and area to relax and read a book or watch the world go by.
Out on the large lawn is a firepit to enjoy in the cool evening and a trampoline for some high-energy fun (use at your own risk). Out the back is also a hot outdoor shower to wash away the salt and sand.
There is a kayak and surf-ski available for your use to explore surrounding waters and look for marine wildlife life sea turtle, dolphins, dugongs and stingrays which frequent the area.
Moreton Island is one of the best experiences that Queensland has to offer. It is the second largest sand island in the world. As Moreton is almost completely sand with no roads, so a 4wd is needed past the landing points. Just across the bay from Brisbane city, Moreton is a relatively unspoilt paradise waiting for you to experience its spectacular beaches, forests, and adventure experiences.
Shack@37 is only 100m walk to the bayside beach and mangrove snorkelling waters. This is a calm beach for children to play and for adults to feel the water lapping at their feet. The surfside is only a 5-minute sand drive away. Both beaches and the near-by point are exceptional places to throw in a line and try your luck for Whiting, Flathead and Tailor. A 10-minute drive north on the western beach takes you to the massive sand dunes, where you can try sand tobogganing and climb the epic sand slopes to see the amazing views back across the bay. On the way back to town you can stop at the local oyster farm and buy some freshly shucked Oysters direct from the water to enjoy when you return home (maybe with a sneaky glass of bubbles).
Important things to note for both Kooringal and your stay at this property:
1) 4WD needed and pets not allowed - Moreton Island is a national park. There are no sealed roads - this means that there is 4WD access only. You will need a permit for your vehicle, which can be obtained from the barge operator. Also, no pets are allowed on the Island or at the house.
2) Shack@37 (indeed the whole town) is off-grid - making it environmentally friendly.
3) Solar Electricity - The house is supplied by solar power. We have good solar batteries, but you need to be mindful of how much electricity you use. Because of this the house does not have electrical appliance like toasters, kettles or microwaves. We have camping toaster, stovetop coffee and stove top kettle for your use. Please do not bring hairdryers to use as these will drain the batteries quickly.
4) Rainwater - Water is rainwater from a tank. This is potable. However, when it has been dry water can be limited. We recommend bringing some bottled water and keeping showers short.
5) Septic Tank â The toilets are connected to a septic system. Please do not place foreign objects, sanitary items or baby wipes in the toilet.
6) Safety for Children - We do not suggest bringing children younger than 6 years-old to the property as the veranda railing has horizonal slats (thus climbable) and the external staircase leading to the upper level is rather steep for little people. Further the Trampoline is to be used at-your-own-risk as it has no net and no padding over the springs. If in doubt, please do not use it.
7) Our home â This is our home away from home. There will be some cloths and personal items at the house, and a third bedroom which will be locked. Please respect these items.
Support - We have a friendly property manager who can help if you have any problems, and we can be contacted if needed.
