Free street parking is readily available in the neighborhood.
The Neighborhood:
Washington Park
You’ll be staying a mere 5-minute walk from the neighborhood’s lovely Washington park, a unique urban oasis popular with Denverites out for a jog or picnic. Dubbed "Wash Park" by locals, the area has a Rockwellian feel with its lush landscaping, awning-covered storefronts and family-friendly atmosphere. Washington Park itself has two lakes, two formal flower gardens, tree-lined paths and seemingly endless expanses of green grass. It's a fitness mecca for locals, and on any given day you're likely to spot people walking their dogs, running, biking, paddle boating or doing yoga.
It's no wonder that it's consistently chosen as Denver's favorite park. Nearby is South Pearl Street, once the site of the city's first trolley car route, now home to art, wine and cocktail bars, specialty shops, boutique and high-end clothing stores and some of Denver's best local dining. Visit Old South Gaylord where you can experience local restaurants, galleries and shops.
What’s within walking distance of the house? Quite a bit, actually! Bend an elbow and get in a game of pool or shuffleboard at the retro, laid-back Candlelight Tavern. You’ll find a taste of Louisiana right here in Wash Park at Lucille’s Creole Cafe, an insanely popular breakfast and brunch spot. Another phenomenal breakfast spot is Denver Biscuit Company – well worth the weekend wait! Prefer to do your own cooking? Safeway and Natural Grocers are right down the street, and there is a Trader Joe’s located a short drive away near City Park, where you will also find the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
If you’re cruising around Downtown, get oriented at Union Station, which has been reimagined as a cultural hub with cafes, art and shopping. From Union Station, Coors Field is within walking distance to the North, while Ball Arena (Nuggets and Avalanche) is to the South. Trendy Larimer Street is also nearby. You can catch a light rail train at Union Station to get to Empower Field at Mile High. The 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle, which is the best way to get to the Denver Performing Arts Center as well as the State Capitol and Denver Mint.
Further East, it’s a short Uber ride to City Park, Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Botanical Gardens, and other attractions. The new Meow Wolf art experience is also worth checking out, as are the Denver Aquarium and Elitch Gardens. All three are near Empower Field and the REI Flagship store.
Here for a concert? Red Rocks is only 20 minutes away by car. You may want to check out this area regardless of your itinerary – it’s a unique place, and its gateway town of Morrison is charming. Link up an easygoing riverside hike at Lair O’ The Bear or an afternoon paddleboarding or skating in Evergreen to really make a day of it. Further south, you’ll find Roxborough State Park (40 minutes) for more hiking trails. One of Colorado’s main draws is Rocky Mountain National Park, which makes for a great day trip. Drive 1.5 hours through a dramatic canyon for a day of hiking, sightseeing and wildlife viewing.
Depending on your destination, skiing is 1-3 hours away. Locals head to Echo Mountain, Eldora (near Boulder) or Loveland (near Georgetown) for a more low-key experience, but we’re also within a few hours of Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and other snowy delights. There is a Nordic center near Breck if you want to try out cross-country skiing, and the summer months are a great time to rent a kayak to explore Dillon Reservoir.
In short, this is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the best of Denver and the Rockies! It’s impossible to see everything in one visit, so we look forward to hosting you again after you fall in love with Mile High Life!
Getting Around:
The neighborhood is a pleasant one for strolling, but for exploring the rest of Denver we recommend either having access to a car or utilizing a ride share service. As previously mentioned, you can easily walk to some awesome restaurants and taverns, as well as the park. Many of Denver’s main attractions are a short 15-20 minute drive away, including: Downtown, City Park, Denver Aquarium, Coors Field, Empower Field at Mile High, Ball Arena, Elitch Gardens and dozens of other best-in-class destinations.
You can easily walk Downtown, and the 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle. If you drive Downtown, we recommend giving yourself some extra time to find parking. City Park and its attractions – Denver Zoo, Museum of Nature & Science, etc. – offer free parking, as does the Denver Botanical Garden on York Street. The Botanical Garden also has a location at Chatfield Farms, a short drive away, which offers festive fun during the fall and winter seasons.
Driving is the best way to explore the mountains, although there are also some ski shuttle companies in the area. We strongly advise AGAINST relying on Lyft and Uber in the mountains! Even if a driver is willing to take you up there, they will NOT come back for you and you will find yourself stranded. That being said, both services are readily available in the Denver Metro area. If you are hanging around town, a combination of walking, ride shares and light rail will probably get you where you need to go.
Other Things to Note:
This is a non-smoking, non-vaping home! We appreciate that some of our guests may wish to indulge in some of Colorado’s herbal offerings, but this is not the place. An odor fee will be added to your reservation if this policy is violated. Thank you in advance for your compliance.
Amenities include self check-in, a fully stocked kitchen, coffee, fast WiFi and Smart TV with streaming services.
We do have neighbors! Please observe the quiet hours of 10 PM to 8 AM, especially in the backyard. If you are enjoying being outside late at night, keep your voices low, don’t play music, and be respectful.
No parties, please.
Please note: If any reservation is extended to 29 days or more, we will bill in advance for an estimated hourly deep clean.
