The location was great, only a block from the beach and downtown, but still quiet. The unit was well kept and had a large open-air living space. If you prefer a more traditional living space, the ground floor unit would be a good choice. Both units share a back yard with a table/chairs and a pool. Ruben, the owner, was very easy to work with and we would rent from him again.
In my opinion this home characterizes the spirit of Sayulita! Fantastic set up for a small family or even 2 couples, wonderful private pool oasis, tucked in privacy in the bedrooms and outdoor shower, great living space and views out over the colorful half block to the beach. The Owners live in town and personally make sure you have what you need.
The owners, Ruben and Sofie, were quick to respond and were accommodating to our needs. The location is amazing: a block from the beach and a block from town (including around the corner from the delicious Naty's Tacos). Although the house is in the mix of things, it felt private with good screening from the trees and the palapas. The beds are comfortable although note that the king is two twins pushed together as in Europe. The outdoor shower is a delight. The open air living space was very comfortable especially for escaping the heat of the day; a breeze that ran through kept us cool. The house was kept clean everyday by a Vicky, who was also quite accommodating to our schedule. The pool was also kept clean and was the perfect temperature in late April. The kitchen has poor equipment, especially the knives so that making guacamole or peeling fruit was difficult. The coffee maker was adequate. But there is little reason to cook in this town as the tacos are so cheap and delicious. Ruben and Sofie provided excellent restaurant recommendations. Purillo's really does have the best fish (and shrimp) tacos anywhere!
Place was great the upstairs was spacious and open. The only minus was the pool was small and too cold but we travelled in February, perhaps you would want that by June. Hosts were nice. It was great to have coffee in the house. Gotta have my coffee in the am!
Great place at nearly unbeatable location with nice owners.
First and foremost Ruben, the owner, was quite helpful and responsive with all my inquires prior and during our stay.
The apartment is beatiful and has a very opened concept which we loved, specially the terrace-living room, kitchen and the outdoor shower (which is smartly enclosed so it's still private, though roofless).
Location is great with just about a block away from the main part of the beach and the main square both, you won't miss any of the fun.
The only thing that could be improved (but we realize is not dependent on the owners) is of it had Ocean views. It has a very partial one, but is mainly obstructed by the Palm trees and properties in front of it (right before the beach).
Would definitely return, and gladly recommend.
Our family of 4 loved this place. The location is absolutely perfect, just around the corner from the main area of town, but removed enough that we had good privacy. The beach is just a block away and a very easy walk. The owners were extremely kind and accommodating. We arrived by bus on a rainy night and the owners very kindly offered to pick us up from the bus stop, which was very unexpected and much appreciated. The Arriba (upstairs) unit that we originally rented was absolutely beautiful; great views of tropical vegetation and gorgeous hardwood doors and cabinets. I hadn't realized the main living area is all open air, like a large covered patio, which was a nice tropical feel. The 2 bedrooms are the only parts of the apartment that can be locked up (each door has it's own lock). The shower, while quite private and well screened, actually has no roof, so when it rains you can have a shower without turning on the faucet. The Arriba unit was very lovely and would be perfect for 2 couples or for a family with older children. However, with our very young kids (ages 4 and 6), we didn't feel comfortable locking bedroom doors at night (since the kids need to be able to get to us and vice versa). So the owners very kindly accommodated our request after the first night to move to the Abajo (lower) apartment, which happened to be vacant, and where we stayed 6 additional nights. The Abajo unit is more of a traditional home that can be completely locked up but also has a nice covered patio eating area. It was much more suitable for young kids and worked out great for us. There were lots of windows and many lights, so it felt light and bright. The kitchen was larger in the Abajo unit, which was helpful for us. The Abajo unit also has an additional outdoor shower near the front door and this was PRICELESS for getting sand off kids after returning from the beach, in fact this was one of my favorite features of the Abajo place. The backyard pool and patio are gorgeous and well maintained; we had a fantastic time playing back there. The pool is not heated (which is the norm for the region), so it was comfortable only when the weather was warmest, but it felt great to take a dip in it. This is a great place to stay and I would recommend it to friends and family, with the one caveat that the Abajo unit is better for young children than the Arriba unit.
Hi, we are Sophie and Ruben. Not so long ago we came to Sayulita on a surf trip, and immediately lost our hearts here. We packed up and moved - with our two daughters - and never looked back. We are originally from Belgium. We've lived for 8 years in beautiful Laguna Beach, California, and now we live full time in equally beautiful Sayulita, Nayarit.
