The location was perfect, lovely surroundings and walks.
We felt that the property was not perfectly clean, some crockery/utensils dirty. Broken main light bulb in one bedroom, couldn't replace. Grill on gas cooker would not turn up to a high flame, so couldn't cook on it. Wooden crockery drainer dirty.
The was no smoke detector in the property, which is a legal requirement in all holiday cottages.
Fantastic place to unwind, surrounded by natural beauty
A truly stunning location, set in 30 acres of green to walk around (including a swimming lake ten mins away on foot). The view from the veranda, overlooking miles of mountain is just incredible. We spent as much time as we could sitting thete and it fast became one of our favourite places in the world. When we werenât doing that, there are lots of things to see and do in the surrounding area. Can strongly recommend.
Historic Cottage, remote but with easy access to North Wales attractions
Would highly recommend it. Staying at Maentwrog is like stepping back in time, has the feel of a 1950s cottage and has not been overly modernised like many places and is furnished in that period. Saying that there had plenty of hot water, the stove is good, beds are comfy and the shower is a power shower. No microwave though. The cottage is quite big so plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen could do with a bit of a sort out so there is somewhere for guests food and crockery could do with an update but everything was clean. Has weak Wifi but our Mobiles got decent coverage so planning days out was OK. Very tranquil location, the route up to the cottage is a fun drive and a bit of ground clearance is definitely required, very low slung cars would struggle. It only takes about 5 mins to get down though and then you are away on decent roads so getting places is easy enough. All in all a lovely place to stay.
This home is special.
A combination of breathtaking scenery and superb location, very comfortable abode with everything you need whilst giving the feeling of wild country living escapism.
The decor and Noelles wonderful paintings add serenity and interest to the cottage.
My family all connected to this place immensely.
We canât believe how quickly our week at the cottage has gone, arriving after a long car journey felt quite magical, the setting is just stunning. The cottage had everything we needed and our 16 and 17 year olds absolutely loved it. Admittedly we were extremely lucky with the weather, swimming at beach or lake every day, frequently both!!
If you donât mind the hairpin bends up the track I would strongly recommend a holiday here in the mountains!
We had an amazing two weeks in Noelle's cottage, which served as a fantastic base to explore Snowdonia. We travelled with dogs who loved the walks straight out from the cottage. Noelle's son Ned was on hand to offer help and advice during our stay. If you're looking for peace and tranquility away from the crowds then this is the ideal place. The whole family absolutely loved it!
We had a great, relaxing week staying in this cosy cottage located in a beautiful wooded valley. We loved the quirky kitchen and dining area with lovely warm Rayburn. We did lots of walking straight from the cottage and enjoyed a dip in the swimming lake. The whole area was fantastically beautiful. Thanks for a lovely holiday.
This is a beautiful cottage in a truly spectacular location. Easy access to stunning woodland walks and within short driving distance to a variety of pretty villages, the Ffestiniog Railway, Portmeirion and beaches. The host was very helpful suggesting local beaches and walks. Cottage itself was clean and cosy, especially in the evenings when we had the wood burner crackling - bliss. We had a magical week in this lovely cottage and very stunning part of Wales.
Lovely cottage, good size with three children and a dog. The views and woodland around are amazing, itâs great being able to walk from your front door.
The cottage was everything we hoped it would be, remote, lovely views and peaceful. Everything about our week away was great even though the weather wasn't, it still did not stop us enjoying the week. Booking etc was easy, the owner was very helpful and it had everything we needed, will be booking again!!
The cottage is surrounded by forest and mountains with the nearest road almost 1 mile away. If you want peace and quiet then this is the place for you.
This morning I woke to see the sunrise over the mountains from the bedroom window, breathtaking is an understatement.
Our 2 kids (9 & 16) absolutely loved it. They played hide and seek for hours. Plenty of walks on your doorstep along with the lakes.
I canât recommend the cottage highly enough. Now after a week of tranquility back to work in the busy city.
Stunning location, homely and welcoming with all we needed as a family of five and dog. Simply ace!
The twisting woodland drive up the track from the main road set the scene wonderfully for this remote but not isolated home. The whole family âoh wowââd as the track opened up to reveal the cottage and its unparalleled setting. Glorious views from such a cosy and welcoming home with everything we needed to enjoy a week in Snowdonia that flew past. Lovely personal touches and furnishings around the home meant that even our 7yr old was respectful of the place which is clearly much loved. The swimming lake nearby is such a treat and of course the lovely walks and fun quirkiness of having a request stop only a hop skip and jump away for a steam train is a massive winner! The contact with Noelle prior to our trip was fabulous and having her son nearby whilst we were there to offer any advice on what to see or do locally as well as checking in that we were happily ensconced is another massive plus point. We have really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!
We spent unforgettable two weeks in this cottages, overall one of our best holidays.
We found a very individually furnished and fully equipped household of the landlord with lots of antiques, which we loved a lot. Perfectly situated for visiting places in North Wales, because it is easy to reach.
Very peaceful, absolutely quite, with gorgeous view from the verandah, as well as from all Rooms inside. We loved the verandah, which protected us against sun and misty weather. A very spacious Building.
Noelle and Richard have been lovely, always available with tips and hints or just for a nice chat.
We spent unforgettable two weeks in this cottages, overall one of our best holidays.
Noelle has been living at HAFOD since 1988 when she married and moved into her husband's family home. Set in 30 acres of mountain woodland, she and her family have lovingly restored the land to its former beauty by felling conifers, re-planting with oaks and returning some land to pasture in 1991.
They live in HAFOD y LLYN cottage which was the Gamekeeper's cottage for the Plas Tan y Bwlch estate. This cottage is rented between July - October.
HAFOD cottage used to be the kennels for the large hunting dogs kept by the gamekeeper in Victorian times. The kennels had a central wall which heated the building so the dogs were warm in the winter! They renovated this building in 1991 and this cottage is rented all year.
It is 3/4 mile from the road, along a track which passes through some beautiful scenery. It is private with no other cars apart from ours and our guests. It has wonderful walks from the front door, as well as a request stop (5 minute walk from Hafod cottage) for the Ffestiniog Railway. A swimming lake is a ten minute walk away. It is the perfect place to relax in nature and explore Snowdonia.
Hafod is very secluded, our local road is 3/4 mile away so you cannot hear or see traffic. You can walk to the local pub along paths and a track, only crossing the road once outside the pub!
HAFOD is close to the sea - sandy beaches of Harlech or the beaches near Porthmadog of Borth y Gest or Criccieth - all approx 20 minute drive away. Snowdon mountain range is also approx 20 minute drive. Lots of castles, slate caverns, zipwire and bounce below, mountain biking at Coed y Brenin, the Italianate village of Portmeirion are all approx 20 minutes drive.
