Pristine Private Lake Cottage à West Hartland CT - 3 saisons

Quiet Lake Cottage Just Like in Grandparent's Day
An out of the way cottage on a small lake in northwest Connecticut, this place is a retreat from hustle and a return to the simple life. The house is rustic with an outdoor shower and large fireplace, and a solid dock with chairs. A screened porch overlooks the lake from above. The house sleeps 10 with five private bedrooms and a bunkroom. There's a small well-equipped kitchen, and a collection of family games. No laundry, but a laundry line for wet bathing suits and towels. I thought we'd hike the surrounding woods, or canoe to a far shore. Cool rainy weather discouraged us, and the mosquitoes were ferocious on the trail. Apart from an excursion to the Mark Twain House in Hartford, we were content to hang out, read, play Taboo and swim in the lake. The week passed too quickly, everyone was sad to leave.

Great spot and lovely cottage.
Absolutely loved our vacation. Lots of room to spread out for our group of 9. Plenty of beds and bedrooms for privacy. We enjoyed the outdoor shower too! Lake was great for our kayakers, canoers and fishermen in their float tubes and flippers. The guys caught sunfish, blue gills, pickerel, small mouth and large mouth bass. Even caught some off the dock. My 39 yr old son caught over 60 fish during the week... Largest was 18". Our ages ranged from 14 to 70 and all had a good time. Will definitely consider vacationing here again.

What a wonderful place!
We stayed at the cottage for four nights. It was spotlessly clean and completely charming - exactly as pictured, only better. It’s hard to capture the throwback charm of the screened porch, and all the little touches that make it so authentic as a lakeside cottage. It is also very spacious and extremely well equipped. The dock was a great hangout spot, and the water was so clean and refreshing, the perfect temperature. We swam every day. Our communication with Ann was great. We highly recommend this cottage. Idyllic!
We gathered 8 family members here to celebrate my 70th birthday. This place was absolutely perfect. I was even greeted upon arrival with birthday balloons and a present of some maple syrup! We would wake up and sip our coffee on the screened in porch while gazing at the pond and listening to the birds. Then we spent the day hiking, canoeing, swimming, laughing, and catching up. We are fanatic snorkelers and bird watchers, and there was so much to see! There are several nice trails near the cottage and at least two state forests nearby - Tunxis and Granville. The pond had newts, turtles, fish, and waterlilies. Even in mid-June the water temperature was fine, and the bugs weren't at all bad. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable and an easy drive from the Hartford Airport. There's a half bath at each end which made it easy to share with my daughter's in-laws, and even the few "city folk" with us enjoyed the novelty of the outdoor shower. I planned the menus before our stay and was happy to find the kitchen with the right equipment to make absolutely everything. Be sure to download Merlin for bird identification and Seek for plants before going and plan at least one trip to the fabulous Gran-Val Scoop for its homemade ice cream and petting zoo! I will be dreaming of this vacation for a long time.

Lake house with homey vibe
A quiet week at a lakeside community in a well cared-for late-40s cabin. Hiked, swam, canoed and played board games. We all ate a lot of fresh corn. For the kind of family that likes the quiet life this is perfect. For arts lovers, it’s no more than 45 mins drive from Jacob’s Pillow dance festival.

Wonderful peace and tranquility
Two parts of our vacation: the house and the lake/pond. The house provided everything you need for a comfortable stay. The lake/pond reminded us of the hazy, lazy days of summer - no motor boats, no jet skis, just swimming, paddle boards and canoes. Beautiful easy living away from "hectic" - feeding the hummingbirds and serenaded by birds and bull frogs.

On Golden Pond
I stayed with my father for seven nights, other family members came for short stays. I doubt that there are many lodging places as quiet and peaceful. We fished a bit every day by kayak (no motors-even electric) and caught largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, blue gills, and pickerel. None of the bass were of significant size. The cottage, the lake, and day trips to the Riverton and Colebrook general stores were like a trip back in time that you only see in old movies and TV shows. Highly recommend if you don't mind things a bit rustic, like an outdoor (private) shower. Most mornings were a bit chilly in the mid-40s so we lit the fireplace to chase off the cold. We're grateful to the owners for sharing their family cottage.

Lovely vacation at the lake
We had such a nice time at Ann and Bill's place on Hartland Pond! The house and lake were exactly as described and it was so great to just relax and enjoy our time there. The lake is peaceful and quiet and exactly what we had hoped for. Ann and Bill were easy to work with, especially as our week began with Hurricane Ida! Their flexibility in letting us arrive after the storm had passed and refunding the days we lost to the storm were much appreciated.

Beautiful and peaceful. The only negative was showering outside when it was cold out and the outdoor shower had a lot of spider webs. There is no indoor shower available.

Beautiful and quiet!
This is a wonderful place to have a quiet escape from city noise and the rest of the world. The cabin has everything you need for a no-fuss vacation, including lots of beds, long dining table and dishes for a big family gathering. The pond is just beautiful and perfect for swimming and paddling- amazing for our kids who spent the whole day swimming! The quiet was wonderful and we enjoyed many naps on the dock and in the hammock (which we brought ourselves). Visits from hummingbirds and owls were extra special, and the kids enjoyed exploring the area and discovering nature. Adults also really enjoyed the clay tennis courts! Communication with Ann was prompt and very helpful, and we were refunded one night because of a blackout throughout the area. When it says “quiet” in the description, it means it! Houses are fairly close together and neighbors are within easy earshot. Our four kids (ages 8-13) enjoying the water definitely made us aware of being the loudest house on the pond. Signs around the house warn about the need for quiet and that neighbors will complain. I definitely recommend the space for a group that wants a beautiful rest and escape. It’s wonderful for people of all ages but parents will have to stay vigilant about noise levels.

Peaceful stay at a beautiful location
My family and I had a wonderful time at this beautiful home. The property is in great condition and is clearly well cared for and loved by its owners, who were a pleasure to work with. The setting is perfect, with an awesome porch overlooking private dock great for swimming etc. And the area around the home is beautiful forest. If you are looking for a lake house in a quiet beautiful setting this is it!

wonderful week !
It was another week of fun and relaxation. We devoted most of our time to the porch and dock, and the kids set up an outdoor movie spot on the porch for watching old favorites. There was plenty of room for us all and equipped with everything that you could possibly need. The area has enough activities to keep the kids and adults entertained - between hiking, biking and water fun. Thank you for letting us stay again at your family home and letting us start some wonderful memories of our own.

Perfect end to the summer!
My husband and I were joined by our children and their families to this wonderful summer home. There was plenty of room for everyone and the lake was just steps away. It was a wonderful week to reboot without the gadgets and distractions. We could have all spent the entire week on the screened in porch overlooking the lake - perfect. Hiking, bike paths, and golf were close by and Six Flags was an added bonus for the older children. The days were topped off with sunsets on the dock. It was a wonderful week of reconnecting and spending time with our family. Definitely will return.

Summertime Retreat
I hate to say anything nice about this place, because I'd like to have it all to myself as often as I can. In July, 2017, we spent our vacation at this Hartland Pond cottage for the third time. We'll be back if the owners will have us! I grew up going to a cottage on a pond in the summertime. This place is better than my memories. It is sooo relaxing. It is so peaceful. No noisy boat motors. We are occupied every day with healthy walks, swimming, fishing, canoeing, picking blueberries, playing bocce ball or tennis, biking, hiking or just exercising along the camp road which encircles the pond. Occasionally, we ventured out to nearby Riverton, where the General Store offers great breakfast sandwiches and other fare, and where Sweet Pea's provides delicious meals. But mostly, we just enjoyed the outdoors as well as the cottage - meals and reading on the screened-in porch, board games on the massive table in the great room, and catching up on our sleep in comfortable beds galore! I'm already longing to return.

Positively lovely!
My family, comprised of my 81 year old father (from Minnesota), siblings and their families (from Minnesota and Arizona), and my husband and I rented this big, beautiful lodge-like cottage for two weeks at the end of June. For the most part we had nine people, but for one weekend we had another large contingency come in and there was plenty of room. It was spacious, warm, perfectly clean, and very groovy. The second floor gives tons of privacy. The outdoor shower was fantastic! We like things that are not new and fancy. We are from the North Country and like a rustic, old fashioned vacation. Seriously, this place could not have been more perfect. The kitchen was very well equipped (the sink was fantastic). With two large tables, one in the main room, one on the majestic screened porch, eating with a large group was easy. Additionally, the lake was so quiet, we felt like it was our private lake. Of course, it wasn't, as there are about 35 folks on the lake. But it's a peaceful place, without the music blaring and jet skis jarring one out of quietude. We were thrilled. The kids had a great time swimming at the beach across the lake, but just a short canoe ride or walk around the lake. My sister and I swam every single day, and many days across the lake (no motors=no fear). My dad likes to tool around in the car and explore the environs, so we had a blast going on day trips to Winsted (great thrift stores!), Great Barrington, Farmington. The landscape was a pleasant surprise to everyone; the mountains and streams, and historical sights, brought a nice dimension to the trip. If you want old-timey, rent this place. I shed real tears when we had to go back to our apartment in New York City.

True Vacation
This stay was our second visit to this peaceful cottage on the lake. The first time was for a family wedding at the lake, and it was a bit hectic. This time around, it was to relax and enjoy what this lake community has to offer. We could not have had a better time. This is a wholesome experience, where you see your young children learn how to paddle a canoe, fish, jump off the raft at the beach and swim to shore, and hike the trail to the Hogback Reservoir overlook. We picked blueberries, which are abundant in the field next to the clay tennis court and bocce ball court. And, yes, we played tennis and bocce ball, for which the equipment is stored right next to the court. A jog around the lake - mostly on the camp road - is a must after all of the dinners which just seem to taste better at the lake. We were so active during the day, that we almost didn't notice that there is a nice flat-screen television in the cottage, which did provide a movie night for the young ones one night. Finally, there is a nice selection of board games, and our Monopoly game lasted three nights. All of us cannot wait to go back.

Our family spent our summers here and Pinehurst Lake hasn't changed much. This is our home for part of the year, and isn't your typical income-rental property. We ask that you treat it as carefully as you would your own home. We pride ourselves on keeping the house and property well-maintained. We will be updating the interior over the next few years adding an indoor shower, washer & dryer and remodeling the kitchen.

The Hartland Pond Association (HPC) was formed in 1929, and most cottages were completed in the 1940's. A thirty-five homes limit was set and still applies. The HPC owns 600 acres around the lake. The State of Connecticut acquired land around the lake and established a State Forest & Water District Property that will never be developed. Pinehurst lake is a slice of history tucked away in a heavily forested part of Connecticut that hasn't changed in seventy years.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

We welcome you to our family lakefront summer cottage. We hope you'll enjoy your time here while relaxing in nature with your family and friends. And yes it is rustic! For your hiking pleasure there are well-marked walking trails around the lake and up into water district property.

The Hartland Pond Association (HPC) manages the Pinehurst Lake Community and keeps close tabs on rental guests. EXCESSIVE NOISE IS A PROBLEM for this very quiet HPC community. If you are looking for a place to party with a large group, listen to loud music, please do not apply. This is a low key nature retreat to unplug from the stress and noise of the hectic world.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

Quiet lakefront, rustic, retreat environment (have we said it enough, lol)

We and our neighbors value this exceptionally peaceful and quiet retreat environment. We look for and rent to like minded guests. DO NOT APPLY to rent our cottage unless you plan on spending quiet time with your friends and family. Please keep your conversations and music at lower volumes. Sound carries clearly over the water in the lake basin. While it is important to respect our neighbors desire for peace and quiet we want our guests and children to have fun and enjoy the lake!
