Nice place. Location good for what we needed. Thought it would be quiet, but some radio and machinery noise from the farm/neighbour. Fairly clean, though one bed had a hair in it (not belonging to guests), and there were 3 flies in the kitchen. No fly spray. Only half a loo roll on one bedroom, and I would have expected there to be a box of tissues on the main area. As a self catered cottage, some kitchen essentials were missing - no mixing bowl to make pancakes for example. No decaf coffee. Not enough sugar - had to buy own. Lot of sag in sofas.
Perfect location for our visit to Sutton Hoo, just a short walk away. Great communication from our host and we were able to check in early, which was useful. Wine and milk in the fridge was really nice touch. The property has EVERYTHING you need, games, dvds, utensils, washing liquid etc. Very comfortable bedrooms with their own en-suite and there is a day bed for larger groups which has access to a toilet. Lovely spacious comfy living area, dining table, and fenced garden area with BBQ.It really has every thing we could have wanted, a real home from home. Loved our stay
Helen, the owner, was helpful but I would not call this Cottage luxury. It is dated, faded and needs a deep clean with a large dose of TLC. Information and pamphlets all need to be updated. It could be such a cute spot. Right next door to Sutton Hoo and handy to Woodbridge and the Suffolk Coast.
From being a young teenager Iâd always wanted to visit Sutton Hoo. Now in my 80th year and with mobility problems, Iâve achieved my ambition. Shearerâs cottage was everything we could have wished for. Helen, our host, was friendly, helpful provided us with Additional furniture to take into account my particular needs.Being so near to the NT entrance, I was able to have several visits as we were so close to the site. Thank you!
My wife and I took our two grandsons to Sutton Hoo for their half term break. The boys found the accommodation met all their needs with plenty of space outside to play their ball games. The facilities were excellent and would be ideal for anyone having an extended stay. In the area there was much to find for our lively grandchildren plus Sutton Hoo just five minutes up the drive. Would almost certainly visit again as a couple.
This was the second time we stayed here and it was still up to standard for what we needed. The fact it has three bathrooms was a lifesaver with two small children. It is conveniently located for Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge for shopping. Helen the host was a star in an emergency. We would definitely return.
Shearer's cottage has proved to be the perfect base, it was so comfortable, particularly the beds.
And there was everything we could need to cater for ourselves.
The copses and garden that surround are filled with birdsong too. So utter bliss.
When I was younger, it was amazing to me that people went back to the same destination. The same property, time and again. I always wanted to go to new places on every trip.
BUT, when you visit a place like this. I totally understand these people. It literally feels like a home from home. Everything feels "right". I know that's an odd thing to say. But, it's so easy. So comfortable. So "normal".
We will be back :)
Lovely spot near Sutton Hoo, which we visited. Helen is an experienced host, who welcomed us but let us get on with our holiday. Nearby if there was a problem. Cottage was warm and inviting. Kitchen well equipped. All very good and we would be happy to come again if we were in that area! Thank you. Barbara, John and Carolyn 3 oldies
Clean and comfy well stocked kitchen and eating places nearby. Though it was a bit of a walk three quarters of a mile about. The cottage was warm and welcoming so we will be back
The property was spacious and clean. The rooms were large and comfortable. The two bedrooms were warm and the kitchen was modern. The living room had two large sofaâs and a lovely round dining table. It was a nice touch to have wine and milk waiting for us when we arrived. The owner also introduced herself during our visit which was nice. The location was excellent, very quiet but also near to Sutton Hoo and the pleasant village of Melton. I highly recommend this property.
My name is Helen Shand and I and my husband Garrow bought Castle Farm in 1987. We are from suffolk farming stock and wanted our four children to have plenty of space to play in safety. Shearers cottage was at that time an old sheep shearing shed in our front garden and we felt it would make an ideal holiday cottage. That was 24 years ago and now Shearers Cottage has been extended and re-furbished to a very high standard. We are therefore on hand if our guests need anything.
We bought Castle Farm, a 50 acre farm, to have more space for Garrow's contracting business and for our children to have plenty of space for horses, cars, bikes and loads of fun! We love this part of Suffolk as there is so much to do, the varied countryside, with woods, beautiful coastline and wide open spaces to explore, has something for everyone.
