We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had no idea the region was so exciting and diverse.Treetops is a wonderful escape from everyday life, a great place to unwind and relax. Thanks to Ellen, Luis, Raffa, Nina and Pipas who made our stay so special.
We had a lovely stay, with a friendly host who made sure we had information about the surrounding areas and places to visit. This is the first time a host had spent time with us in the evening for a glass of wine and talking.
We had a very relaxing time, and enjoyed ourselves doing very little, sometimes just sitting out on the veranda watching the trees and the day go by. Ellen is a lovely host, and made us feel very welcome.
This was our second stay at this cottage and we were not disappointed. The cottage sits in a secluded part of Ellens garden with spectacular views over Covas and the surrounding area. The cottage is well fitted out with everything you need for a self catering holiday although the restaurant's all serve up delicious food and inexpensive. Ellen has gone to a lot of trouble in identifying all the good spots to visit but you don't have to go to far to find your piece of paradise. The area, people ,food and wine makes your stay special and a must to consider time and time again. Ellen is a wonderful host and is always there to help if needed and of course Rafa the dog always their to greet you when you return home, making sure you are comfortable in the cottage before disappearing till the next time. Everything you need for a vacation, well done Ellen for letting us share your piece of Paradise
We arrived at the same time as a huge low pressure so had to wait until the end of the week before seeing Tree Top Cottage in all its glory. Fortunately Luis had very recently installed a wood pellet burner which fed the central heating and so we were cosy and warm in our treetop hideaway. When the sun eventually showed itself the views were amazing and we can quite understand why Ellen was drawn to this area, it is beautiful. Thank you Ellen for introducing us to village eating, the food was delicious and such good value. Where in the world would you be able to drink a jug of good wine and eat a three course meal followed by coffee for just 6 euros each? Being met by Ellenâs dog Raffa and showed to our accommodation was a first for us but obviously he is quite used to meeting and greeting. He really is adorable and we are surprised that no one has tried to take him back with them.
Me and my husband and our two dogs stayed for 12 days at the Treehouse. We had such a fantastic and relaxing stay enjoying the house and beautiful surroundings. Great host who seemed to thought about everything you possible could need and provided for this. We highly recommend Treehouse!
Overall Treetops is a lovely place to stay. Recommend not visiting out of season as local restaurants weren't open and travelling to other towns along narrow roads ar night is not ideal. The owner, Ellen, was very good providing details of places to visit in the area. Great location is you want to some walking as close to Serre D'Arga National Park. The location is very quiet and a nice place to escape the rat race.
A superior accommodation and location high above the beautiful village of Covas. Super comfortable bed and living areas, indoor and out, including barbecue. Fully equipped kitchen with staples provided. Hostess Ellen is like an old family friend immediately, yet never intruded on our stay. She provided excellent tour advice and directions to âsecretâ spots in the area. Welcoming community and restaurants, lots to see and do. Return each day to Treetops was like arriving in our own private sanctuary complete with a canary aviary! Seemed like the most pleasant spot on earth while we were there!
I first arrived in Portugal on a mountain bike in 1986 and immediately fell in love with the country and the people. The scenery, especially in the Minho, is so rustic and romantic, with its grape vines on tall granite posts, stone walls and houses. So I stayed in the Minho for 5 years running a campsite. In 1993 I bought a property in Covas and spent the next 6 years restoring the house. The latest labour of love has been to restore the very old stone cottage on the other side of the property into guest accommodation. I live here all year round, teaching English in the nearby town of Viana do Castelo.
We bought the place in Covas because it had all the characteristics that I love about North Portugal. It had the grape vines, the fruit trees, the stone walls and terraced landscape. It is situated on one of the higher parts of the village and enjoys beautiful views. It feels remote and private, yet it is just 2km from the centre of the village. Covas itself is only a 20-30 minute drive from some of the loveliest towns of Portugal. In the Minho you really have everything: rivers, mountains, beaches, historic towns and Galicia, Spain just across the river.
Now that Treetop cottage has been restored and modernised, it is, we believe, a unique accommodation. It is not overlooked by any neighbours, but overlooks a 'hidden valley' with a stream and water mills below. The cottage itself cannot be seen from the road and so feels very secluded. While the veranda enjoys sunshine for most of the day, there is shade from the oak trees nearby. We have put in large picture windows and glass patio doors so that guests can feel and see the nature all around them. Yet just a 5 minute drive or a 25 minute walk brings you to the local restaurants and shops.
