Ferme romantique dans les Flandres, Ă 30 km de Gand
Den Haegepreeck is a lovely Flemish farmhouse in the historic village of Horebeke, close to Oudenarde (8km) and Ghent (30km). Set in the rolling green countryside of the Flemish Ardennes which has numerous hiking and cycling possibilities. It would make an ideal base from which to explore some of the most interesting and undiscovered parts of Belgium. The charming property dates from 1805 and is sympathetically restored and authentically furnished (Less suitable for people having difficulties with stairs). The house has modern comforts and central heating. On colder days you will undoubtedly enjoy relaxing moments by the wood stove in the cosy living room or at dinner in the equally cosy dining area and then an exciting game of billiards. On sunny days the garden and terrace are fantastic to sample a local beer or enjoy a barbecue with family or friends.
We stayed in the cottage for a week during July. We were lucky enough to have beautiful summer weather and enjoyed sitting out early morning and late afternoon in the quiet garden listening to the birds chirping. The cottage has a well-equipped kitchen and two bathrooms and showers (one upstairs and one downstairs). The stairs to the bedrooms are a bit steep and may be challenging for an older person. The village is approx. 2km from the cottage where we found a delicious bakery! A car is definitely required and we enjoyed day trips to Ghent, Bruges and Brussels (approx. 1 hour drive to each) with a special day visiting the World War I museum at Ypres and paying our respects at the Tyne Cot Commonwealth Cemetery.
Könnte man erneuern.
Top.
Al met al een super verblijf gehad!!
This is a really sweet and charming cottage as you can see from the pictures on the website and it was our second visit here so you can tell we think it is lovely. Parking is possible on the driveway so that is very convenient. Ground floor accommodation is excellent with separate kitchen, dinning room, games room (although we did not understand this version of billiards), generous sitting room, shower room and separate toilet. The Garden is delightful and sheltered so we spent a lot of time on the sun loungers (6 provided) and ate most of our meals at the wooden table outside, this would fit six people if necessary. Up the rather steep stairs to the first floor (it is an old farmhouse so get used to them), where there are three generous rooms (access is through the first two rooms to the further room so you need to be on familiar terms with those you are staying with). Only downsides were when the temperature hit 35c it was a bit stuffy to sleep and we were bitten by mosquitoes but that happens at home too! Sabine was delightful when we arrived and made us feel very welcome. All in all thoroughly recommended.
This is a great little cottage located just a few kms from Oudenaarde. The interior is rustic but very comfortable. The bedrooms are spacious (note access is via a steep ladder, and all three rooms interlink (i.e. you have to walk through the bedrooms to get downstairs). Sabine is very helpful and friendly. The outdoor space is superb - if only the Belgian weather offered more opportunities to use it! There is a corner shop/deli a couple of kms away which sells excellent meat and cheese and fresh bread, as well as a bakery in the centre of St Maria Horebeke.
We have spent a wonderful week in this house! When we arrived all was perfect: the house was warm, everything was clean, a good bottle of belgian beer was waiting us...and the Christmas tree was lighting for us :). It is a good place: if you love travelling, you can visit a lot of wonderful cities, all near there (Ghent, Bruges...), if you prefer relax, you can read a book in front of a romantic fireplace. We have brought also our dog, a German Shepard, that was happy like us: he could run in the garden and in the fields near the house. The owners are very kind and friendly.
There are no pictures or explanation of how to access the bedrooms. This could be because the stairs consist of small uneven wooden steps with a rope for support which provides for an almost vertical ascent and alarming descent. The property is quite small downstairs and dated.
The owners are not prepared to make any concession for the fact we booked for a week but stayed only one night, despite having paid the cost of accommodation, a damages deposit and cleaning costs upfront.
Horebeke, set in a remote location, and surrounding district provide very few amenities. Anyone who may think Belgium will provide a similar holiday experience to France will be disappointed as we were.
We stayed for a week over Christmas in order to visit local towns and cities with Christmas Markets. Sabine and family made us feel very welcome indeed. The cottage was lovely and full of character, with open wooden beams in most rooms and huge spaces in the bedrooms - the photos do not do them justice (though they are all linked with only one exit - which did not cause us a problem but may do for others who need more privacy). Downstairs was smaller but ideal for our family of 4 (with 2 small children) and could have fit 2 more adults if needed. Location needs a car ideally but is an hour (or less) from Bruges, Brussels, Tournai, Ghent, Kortrijk and a few other small towns. Lille is also less than a hour away though we did not get time visit, and Antwerp is also reachable in about the same time. We would happily stay here agin if visiting Flanders.

We are a Belgian family and we hope to offer you a nice time in our holiday home!
This property used to be my parents' weekend house. At the moment they bought it, I was 4 years old and we lived in Brussels. The cottage had been empty for 15 years and my parents made much efforts to restore it, while keeping all the authentic details. When I grew up, I met my husband in the local youth club and now we live permanently in Horebeke. We already rented it for more than 2Ă years as a holiday home and in the beginning of 2019 major improvements were made to the cottage, but we also tried to keep the typical and cosy atmosphere of the former Flemish farmhouses. There is now an extra toilet and bathroom upstairs, the roof is well insulated and all the bedrooms were freshly repainted and re-decorated so we really hope you will enjoy your stay!
