While the house and location was great, our family was not able to use the pool the entire week because of a bee infestation. There were no less than 30plus bees in the grates all around the pool. The owner Wendy is responsive and tried to remedy the situation but it did not work. The remedy was using fish guts as bait scattered around the pool which then flew into the pool. Also tried a toxic spray that was left for us to do ourselves. Unfortunately that put a major damper on the trip as the pool area was one of the reasons we chose the house. There were also no blankets and were told they only supply flat sheets so with air conditioning it was uncomfortably cold to sleep and we had to use towels. The location is close to many beaches and sites but is not walkable at all since itâs high on the mountain.
Outstanding villa with larger than usual pool, incredible view. Perfect for a family holiday
Wendy our host, was incredibly responsive from the initial contact and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is very well finished and furnished. The pool is larger than usual for a villa. The view is spectacular and you can watch the sun rise from a mountain on one side and the sun set behind the mountain on the other side. The village is walkable, 20 mins. The village has clean sandy beaches, friendly restaurants and a boat hire service. We did trips to Knossos, dined in front of waterfalls and pedalled in a lake watching turtles. Great holiday.
This villa is beautiful! We stayed near Kalyves for a family reunion with members of our family who own a house in Kalyves. They remarked how beautiful the property was and that they would recommend it to others too. It is NOT an easy walk to the beach but only a 5-min drive and parking is simple and free at the amazing Kalyves beach. Wendy, the owner, was super resonsive and helpful. The directions are a bit difficult from the airport but was easy to find if one knew how to get to the town market. Bring bug spray for the mosquitos. The pool was fun and very clean. Everything was really great!! The ONLY thing I would suggest is new screens for the doors/windows as they didn't work while we were there. But we enjoyed the view with our coffee and wine and created great family memories there. Thank you Wendy!
Fantastic villa located a bit up the mountainside among the beautiful olive groves. Lovely view of the sea and the town of Kalives. The villa is very spacious and clean. We were two families staying for 2 weeks, a total of 11 persons. It is optimal with 9 persons as regards to bedrooms/beds, but if you have a few smaller children, it will also fit nicely with 11. You can get around best with your own car, but if you want to spend a lot of time by the lovely pool by the house, it can pay off to use the local taxi. The private balconies with their own sunbeds were top notch if you wanted to retreat a bit. There are restaurants in Kalives that deliver food on order to the house which suited us well in between. The host was very helpful and always available if anything. A house that really can be recommended for relaxation and creating of delicious summer memories!
Just back from a wonderful holiday in this beautiful villa.
Our first visit to Crete and it did not disappoint.
The villa is a 30 min drive from Chania airport. Directions to the property were easy as were the instructions to let ourselves in.
The villa itself is amazing and the photos do not do it justice. The house is spacious with large bedrooms which are all en suite. Each room has its own balcony which boasts incredible views and the seating on these make the perfect spot for cocktails at sundown.
The communal space inside is also spacious and the adequate kitchen leads to the beautiful outdoor space. The pool is stunning, with plenty of loungers surrounding it. There are also covered eating and seating areas which shade from the sun when you need it. We also used the outdoor kitchen and enjoyed BBQs by the poolside taking in the views. The grounds are also beautifully kept with the gorgeous scent of jasmine making it even more divine.
It is a short drive to the local town which has plenty of restaurants, shops, a small supermarket and a lovely beach. Parking here was also easy.
The rest of the area is beautiful and the house is situated with easy access to other parts of the island which are worth exploring.
Wendy was extremely helpful. We had a small issue with the water when we were there but she dealt with it immediately and with very little disruption to our holiday.
Our only negative point was the number of beds. There are two double rooms and two twin
I'll start with the good points!
The views are exceptional! This property has the most beautiful views and every terrace makes the most of them. A beautiful spot to relax and drink in the scenery.
The property itself could be gorgeous. It's very spacious and plenty of space for two sharing families with children.
The pool is lovely.
Now the bad...! the plumbing throughout the entire property is completely shoddy & needs a major overhaul! Within 24 hours of arriving we had a leaking bath, a leaking shower and the pool heating (which we had paid a lot of extra money for) had broken. 'Jimmy' the maintenance man was great and came straight away... but sadly fixed nothing! After a specialist plumber was called and a lot of black soot exploded (literally) all over the pool and terraces, the boiler was fixed and pool heating resumed! Then the downstairs toilet began to leak sewage water... stinking out the downstairs bedroom and making that bathroom completely unusable. This was never fixed either, even though Jimmy did come twice to look at it. The upstairs toilets then began to really smell too... badly... and we needed fans on all the time to keep the air circulating as the smell was so unbearable. By the end of the first week, the kitchen sink had also given up on us and was needing daily plunging! It began to leak every time we took the plug out and spread old dirty washing up water/food all over the terrace by the pool. So we were all treading in unpleasant old waste water which was pretty disgusting! the dishwasher also leaked permanently so we had towels all over the floor to soak that up!
All in all - a disaster! We contacted the owner immediately and continued to contact her as we became more and more desperate. I can only imagine the house had been empty for a long time before our visit as the plumbing simply couldn't handle being used.
At no point have we been offered an apology. We have been told that there will be no refund as she has spent a lot of money on the maintenance guy (the one who didn't manage to fix anything) and also on the pool heating. So it is up to us to bear the brunt of the costs.
A huge shame and a very nearly ruined precious 2 week holiday. Had we realised how bad things were going to get we would have looked to move but with no wifi and the promise of things being fixed we tried instead to just enjoy our holiday.
I would caution anyone looking at this villa - there are plenty of other options in the area!
I rented the villa for 2 weeks to spend our holidays in Crete. The villa is beautiful, in a great location, with a breathtaking view and a big pool to enjoy. We rented a car to reach the near by village in 5 minutes and the amazing beaches on the coast.
Wendy has been very supportive and kind as host, looking after my family and my guests and proactively making sure we could enjoy a memorable holiday.
Highly recommended!
Thanks Wendy!
We spent a relaxing week in a very spacious, clean villa. Wendy is an attentive hostess with whom we were in written contact for any questions.
The 4 bedrooms each with bath and balcony/terrace (3 on the 1st floor and 1 on the ground floor) are fine. The kitchen is also well equipped. The whole house has a pleasantly low noise level.
Unfortunately, the mosquito nets on all doors to terraces or balconies have not worked = probably some previous tenants havnt carefully dealt with. Therefore, we had to fight with annoying mosquitoes...
The "heated" pool would have cost âŹ500. I find this misleading and Wendy should change this in the property description.
A precise indication if hand- and bath towels are changed and toilet paper is replenished would also be nice. We know villas in this region doing this, and others do not.
The sublime location is impressive and allows a super beautiful view of the sea. You have to rely on cars and the access road deserves some respect.
We are giving 5 stars overall. Nevertheless, we also point out issues that can be improved or should be taken into consideration.
Thank you Wendy ;-)
We had a lovely stay in this property. Views we lovely, not over looked . You need a car to travel round, the local village which is a couple of miles away has arrange of bars and restaurants, also worth going up Ito the hills so you can find some tavernas off the beaten track. We left cards and write you in the villa of some of the places to visit. Thanks for a great stay.
We had the most wonderful time at this villa. The rooms were luxurious and all appointed with air conditioners. We enjoyed an astonishing view over a few villages and the ocean. The pool was nice and big enough for ten of us. Honestly, the photos donât really represent the beauty of this place properly.
Wendy was very kind and obliging. She provided all the important information, answered every question within minutes even during our stay and even ordered the cleaner to come early so that we could check-in earlier in the morning. We had a perfect stay in a calm neighborhood at her villa.
We had a fantastic 10 day holiday at Villa Blue Rocks with family and friends. The views are unbelievable, the pool is perfect and the villa was the ideal base for our holiday.
I would say that you really do need a car as the location is in a very hilly area and the walk to Kalyves is particularly challenging. Its not impossible but it does take about 45 mins and I would definitely not recommend its safe for young kids or elderly guests.
We had a car an ventured to Chania (gorgeous old town!), Georgeopolis (fab beach!), Vamos for dinner, and spent time on the smaller beach in Kalyves. We also did a boat trip with Kalyves Cruises from the small harbour which took us into the bay area of Souda, a highlight of our holiday, would definitely recommend.
Wendy (the host) was very quick to respond to our questions in the run up to our holiday and given all the issues with Covid and then ultimately having to change our dates, she was a superb host.
I would highly recommend this villa, it really is a lovely place to stay!
Absolutely loved our stay in this villa. More than enough space for 11 of us with plenty of sunloungers and kitchenware. Wendy was absolutely fantastic at communication and helping us with queries and recommendations. Definitely hire a car as the villa is a 10 min drive from the local beach/shops. Would definitely recommend this villa to anyone!!
What a villa! Some other review said the villa needed modernising/updating! Where & what? Answers on a postcard please.
Start with Wendy, through out the booking process to arriving to staying to leaving, Wendy was on hand 24/7. Not that she was needed, but was always in contact with us. All was straight forward. Fabulous host.
The villa, what can I say. The pool was big enough for all 9 of us. The patio area had enough beds, loungers, shade. Many different eating and shaded areas for the little ones. There was by far enough, towels, bed linen, dishes, cutlery, cups, plates, you name it the villa had plenty. From washing machine to dishwasher, this villa had it all. We had nothing to do bar cook food. All bedrooms had an en-suite. All the upper floor balconies were safe and the kids were not able to climb. Everything was clean and tidy. Was spotless. The BBQ area outside had plenty of shade for when cooking, that was also clean and tidy.
The only problem we had is that we were not able to walk to the beach, as with little ones it was to far and the main road down from the villa had no paths or safe walking areas.
This villa has everything. I can not recommend it enough. Any questions you have please ask Wendy she replies instantly.
I give this 6 stars out of 5. And a score of 11 out of 10. What a villa!
View is lovely and the beds are very comfy. House is tired though and could do with some tlc.
This could be a fabulous house. However, it needs a bit of love and updating. The decor is old fashioned and basic things a bit lacklustre. Door handles and curtain poles that come lose. Air con that doesnât cool and is really just a fan in all bedrooms.
The Wi-Fi is really slow (5-6mbs) and only works downstairs.
The access road is pretty steep and in poor condition. The once electric gate is very heavy slide open and closed.
Could be a great house with some updating abs repairs.
Very Big 3* or Small 4*:
Pro: Spetacular view, Nice pool, outdoor bbq.
Perfect for adults.
Cons: Overprized. Inside is not luxury. I.e.: two balcony Doors could not close at all, so had to place lugage against the doors inorder to use aircondition.
Beside a really Nice pool the place lacks of activity options for children (Small as Big). Not so perfect for families with children.
In general pictures are too pro made and hard to live up to.
But All in All we had a really Nice Stay :)
Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Aufenthalt. Das Haus ist schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Der Ausblick von der Terasse ist schlicht atemberaubend und der Pool schön groĂ. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
As a family of 4 we had a really lovely stay. We canât fault the property at all .. lots of space, privacy, extremely clean and well cared for, easily accessible, in a lovely neighbourhood, amazing views and great comms with Wendy the owner who made sure everything was ok during our stay.
The only downside I would mention is that we thought it would be a bit closer to the village - itâs definitely a drive and not walkable.
All in all, we would highly recommend this villa - itâs beautiful!
Our stay at this villa in Tsivaras was simply wonderful! The villa is very well equipped and as far as views...Breathtaking! Evenings were spent relaxing by the gorgeous pool and on the patio areas, taking in the views with glasses of G&Ts or the lovely local wine which is unexpectedly delicious! Each of the bedroom also has its own private balcony, handy should one requires some private time.
By day, we love the nearby Almyrida Beach resort with a soft sandy beach, free sunbeds/changing facilities all very clean and well maintained. There are also a good choice of cafes and tavernas.
For shopping and more buzz, a trip to Chania is a must. The venetian harbour, Italian influenced architectures makes this place extra charming!
All in all, a fabulous stay - the villa, the views, amazing places to visit and delicious places to eat and drink.....See you again soon!
We had a wonderful family gathering staying at this villa. The property was very spacious, and well maintained. The property manager was most helpful and efficient. We loved the unobstructed view of the sea. A most peaceful location. We will definitely be back!
