We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed the pool. You get a lovely breeze on the patio area. AlcalalĂ thanks as very nice to walk to and enjoy some tapas and wine.
Great villa, pool & views, enjoyed the Alcalali bakery & bars. Little things such as a windscreen shade, ice packs, washing up liquid were much appreciated. Would recommend.
Villa Mariposa was perfect for our family of five. Everything we needed was there including one of the best views possible in the Jalon Valley. Sitting in the Naya with my morning coffee before the kids woke up, looking across to the Col de Rates was the perfect start to every day. Beautiful, well looked after property in a great little village with restaurants and bars to choose from. Hopefully we'll be returning next year...
We love this villa. Itâs in a great location and very quiet. Rachel is very amenable to changes and replies very quickly to requests and queries. Itâs clean & tidy with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool is perfect!! All was so good we added 2 extra weeks to our holiday which Rachel accommodated without any fuss. Would definitely stay again and again and again!!!!
What a lovely villa, perfectly presented, top location and the view was beautiful across the valley. Plenty of room for 6 adults to relax and enjoy the facilities. Great location to explore Alcalali, Jalon and the other villages in this wonderful valley. Never disappoints! Wi-Fi was the only let down but on the positive side at least we were unable to work as planned and had a real break away.
We loved this villa so much we've booked to come back again in September!!! Contact with Rachel and Angie was excellent and the villa had everything you would want for a holiday and more. Quiet location with great views, kitchen well equipped. Unfortunately it was too cold to use the pool but it looked very inviting and clean so looking forward to diving in when we come back in September. Overall - we would definitely recommend this villa - just don't book the weeks when we want to come :)
We had an amazing stay in Casa Mariposa over Christmas and New Year. The location was very handy for cycling/climbing/hiking and the villa was very spacious inside (the photos don't do it justice!). It was exactly what we'd been hoping for. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were lots of other handy things like books/leaflets for local places/games etc which was a nice touch. Having breakfast and dinner on the terrace was a definite highlight - the views are just amazing. Rachel was very responsive and provided lots of handy information before we arrived. All in all we had a really fantastic holiday and hope to come back again.
Our stay at the villa was top notch. Nothing to complain about. Everything was provided as described. Good guidance by owner and employees. Good privacy and the neighborhood is just breathtakingly beautiful. Only a pity for the very weak wifi reception (for the children in the evening), power cut, but that problem certainly did not spoil our holiday. We certainly hope to come back to the same villa one day. Many thanks for everything Rachel & Amanda and sincere greetings from Belgium!đ
If you want a really quiet peaceful, very private location with stunning views this is the place for you!
The location was the best we have been in but unfortunately some money needs to be spent to make this really good. The main negative were the beds. We moved from the main bedroom to the spare because the bed not only was too small but really noisy and poor quality. The trouble was in the spare room there were no mosquito nets on the windows so we could not open the windows at night but had to resort to the airconditioning which is not my favourite way to sleep. The beds were also not very good here either. The toaster does not work and the TV is really old and too small. If only they added a few more touches like cushions for the outside seating too then it would make a difference to the overall impression. The outside area had not also been swept properly for a very long time so it all just was a but old and tired. That all being said the pool was fab and the sunloungers appeared quite new to enjoy this incredible spot!
We had a lovely stay at Villa Mariposa. Comfortable and fairly well equipped villa.
Lovely view and well located.
Couple of niggles:
Pool very murky on arrival, but usable by the following morning. Batteries not working for
aircon in second bedroom. No response to
email to management. Called in for batteries.
The Villa is all, that you see in the photos and more.
It was perfectly maintained and the pool was kept crystal clear by the pool maintenance guy.
There is an outside grill, but the absence of a barbecue was disappointing.
The kitchen has all the equipment you would need to cook a meal.
The views are spectacular, but as it is nestled in the mountains you need to bring and use mosquito repellent and other such tools.
We would highly recommend this villa.
We stayed at Villa Mariposa 5 years ago and had a very happy stay, so staying there again this year felt like greeting an old friend. The house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped; the grounds are attractive and well kept and the pool is delightful. Our favourite space in the house has to be the naya- itâs an absolute joy to sit there in the morning with the view of Alcalali and the Coll de Rates and soak up the peace and quiet. Itâs equally lovely at night too with the village lit up below. Rachel, the owner, was extremely helpful and responsive. Thank you and Iâm sure we will return once again!
We had a super holiday at Villa Mariposa. The accommodation was clean, well equipped and perfect for our party of six. The pool was really lovely and the sun loungers very comfortable.
The view from the villa is just amazing.
We had a few small issues when we arrived, but these were quickly resolved by the agent.
Contact with Rachel was always easy and she quickly responded to any questions we had.
We would like to return and would definitely recommend it to others.
A lovely villa in a peaceful location, with easy access to mountainside walks, local villages and within easy striking distance of the coast. local restaurants and bars are great, but you can also hide away and relax by the pool to enjoy the great views of the Jalon valley and mountains. getting around is easy with a vehicle, but the villa is on a steep hill. Be prepared for lots of steps and/or fairly steep climbs in the urbanisations, although the villages are very accessible .local produce is great and can be found in the relatively local village shops and supermarkets, (the latter being slightly further afield) - check out the local butcher, bakery and bodega for good meat, bread and wine respectively.
Super villa in a great location, with a spectacular view.
Owner Rachel and I had been shuffling our booking forwards since originally booked in 2019, trying to keep one step ahead of COVID. Throughout, Rachel was always helpful, understanding and quick to respond.
Local restaurants and bars really good, and there is now a new petrol station with convenience store in the village - very handy for any missing essentials.
If you want to do a winery/bodega visit & tasting, don't miss Bodegas Riko in nearby Jalon, where delightful co-owner Marina offers a fun and passionate appreciation of the art. Some of her vines are in Alcalali.
We had super weather in September/October, with pool water at a very tolerable 25C. Figs and walnuts from the garden made interesting additional snacks .
It's a really nice place to spend some time.

Rachel y Angie respondieron inmediatamente a nuestras dudas.
Casa muy recomendable
Hello, my name is David. I am British and am the proud owner of the very beautiful Casa Mariposa. I have lived overseas for many years and currently reside in Singapore. Having travelled extensively, I understand the importance of a comfortable and welcoming holiday home.
Over the years, my family and I have stayed in many different holiday homes in many different countries and for our property, we wanted to provide something that really worked - both for us and for our visitors.
We believe we've found the perfect spot and created a welcoming haven. If you choose to stay there, we hope you will very much enjoy your stay. We always enjoy visiting the villa ourselves and the feedback from guests speaks volumes.
I bought Casa Mariposa early in 2005. Despite visiting other areas of Spain I always found myself drawn back to the valley and after a whole year of searching, I finally found what I was looking for. I love the location - quiet and very private yet not isolated and, of course, the wonderful views across the valley. I can't imagine how many hours I've spent on the naya just watching the light changing throughout the day!
I love the late afternoon and evening when the low light creates the most magical glow on the many white-painted farmhouses and the villages below us. Furnishing the house from a range of local shops, was a real pleasure. I wanted to provide comfort and simplicity but with a homely feel too. and believe that has been achieved.
The villa and valley has everything needed to make a great family holiday. There's plenty in the region to keep everyone entertained. Then afterwards, nothing beats returning to the peace and tranquility of the the villa and dinner on the naya or maybe a local restaurant. Then, of course, there are the hours we've spent lazing in the pool on a hot summer afternoon. Having young children of our own when first bought, we installed gates around the pool terrace to give parents of young children peace of mind so youngsters can play away from the pool. I've tried to equip it with everything you should need and am often complimented on this. In Casa Mariposa, I really feel I've found somewhere special - it's always hard to leave and we have many returning guests who have fallen in love with it too.
