It was a nice quiet location up in town. The layout was nice with a nice cool breeze. The property manager lives nearby and was very attentive. Stores for basic necessities are close by but beach is a distance; car or bicycle is necessary. No potable water or means to light stove provided; base for water dispenser there but needed to buy garafone to use. Water sellers ride by the house beeping their horn several times a day so it is easy to get and matches can be found at store 2 blocks down the street. Hot water was a continual issue and the main water runs out frequently (I am guessing there is a leak somewhere.) Overall a very enjoyable stay.
The space was ample. The best part about it is the screened in kitchen and dining area. The beach is not far and there are grocery stores and vegetable shops a minute away.
We had a bumpy start which was resolved only after 21/2 hours on the phone with VRBO. The owner charged us for an extra night. This caused confusion and inconvenience to our host who was led to believe that we were arriving a day earlier than we had agreed upon. Additionally, the owner miscalculated the overall cost and did not communicate that until we were already staying in the place. He then laid blame that I had not noticed his error. I ended up overpaying and trusting that he would return the amount of overpayment, which ,to his credit, he did along with an apology. Maybe just pay attention to the details of your transaction to avoid this happening again.
Also the amenities listed were not accurate. During the above mess VRBO sited the owner for violations and he adjusted the amenity listing. There is no laundry on site. There were no functional bikes on site. Now there is one that works well and needs air after each ride. It made so much difference to have a bike here!
None of the small basic amenities like there usually is in VRBOâs. No soap in kitchen or bathroom, no bags in garbage, less than half a roll of TP.
All that said, the space itself was good and our time here was wonderful!
I and my spouse are semi-retired professional currently residing in Cranbrook, British Columbia. I have two adult children and soon to be a grandfather. I am very excited to take on the role of "Grandpa" and will cherish every moment. I and my siblings were born in England and immigrated to Canada as a young boy. Growing up in Canada with endless opportunities I entered service with the Canadian Armed Forces for several years proud to serve my country. I am an amateur photographer and love to capture the sights and peoples of far of places, the colors and fauna, and natural beauty. that we all can enjoy.
We chose to purchase this property after traveling to Mahahual for a vacation. Having experienced the all-inclusive vacations and wanting to get a real feel for the country we decided to venture out and explore more of Quintana Roo specifically the Costa Maya region. Once here we knew that we had found paradise. The village of Mahahual once a small fishing village of only 100 people to now a thriving vacation destination. It still has its charm and relaxation and as the locals say Mahahual is where Cancun was 25 years ago. You will not find a casino, golf course or all-inclusive resort. Mahahual is unique as you can be you will experience the Mayan culture as well as many other Internationals such Itay, France, German, Canadian and Americans who have chosen a relaxed life and relocated to Mahahual. You will find the second largest cruise ship port here second only to Cozumel with ships of all sizes carrying passengers to these beautiful shores. This is why we chose to one day retire here.
It's not hard to fall in love with Mahahual for that matter all of the Costa Maya. As a visitor, you are made to feel welcome and at home. The local population benefit from your visit and many others to provide for their families. They operate the taxis, the restaurants, the tours, and many other things. You will experience the local cuisine and fresh and I mean fresh seafood, from boat to plate! Every year Mahahual features an International music festival over several days artists from around the globe come and play for all that chose to listen. The festival is marvelous so be sure to book the casita well in advance. Why not come and spend "Semana Santa" the Holy week or Easter and see the spiritual richness of Mexico. Whatever your tastes and wants you will find it here in Mahahual, getaway and clear your mind and soak in not only the sun but the spirit and life of affordable living on the Mexican Caribbean.
