Laura was nice and easy to communicate with via text message.
There were cookies left for us in the refrigerator and the guest packet has all of the information you need.
The linens were nice and mostly clean (found a used eye pencil in a "clean"/ folded towel).
Being able to sit and watch the boats go by on the river was nice. We were in town for a wedding so didn't do any activities.
The neighbors were quiet and the area was peaceful except for the trains (read below).
Our group consisted of 4 adults, all family with one couple. The queen bed is downstairs, which was nice for us, but the 2 full sized beds were upstairs. There's only the spiral staircase inside the house which wasn't easy for my mother-in-law.
I can imagine the house isn't easy to get to if you're going in the winter months as it's a single lane windy 5mph road.
The house is aged in some areas (bathrooms/tubs, baseboards are loose/rusted) and there are random holes/nails sticking out of the walls where decorations may have been at one time.
Couldn't figure out some of the light switches. Maybe label them so it's not a guessing game.
Be careful by the river. My boyfriend slipped and fell on the concrete when he missed a step.
I'd recommend removing the air conditioner from the window when the forecast doesn't call for it. The cold air was coming in over the bed and didn't help to reduce the train noise.
It's very dark in the entry. Maybe a motion light would help.
The trains- There isn't any mention in the listing about the train tracks that are virtually in the front yard. I discovered this myself on a satellite view of Google Maps after booking. I specifically asked how often the train comes through so we could be prepared & Laura said, "As for the train it Varys. sometimes they add more on the weekends. I would say on average every two hours but it becomes less and less infrequent as it gets more into the evening and night time." In one hour on Saturday morning (from 0730-0832), I counted 10 passes. There is, also, a freight train across the river that can be heard. Just be prepared because it's noisy, frequent,
and through the night, as well. We didn't sleep well because the trains kept
We would've paid more for a hotel with less space≺ivacy so we would definitely stay here again if we were to be in the area. Some minor updates would go a long way. Be up front about the train as noise is not tolerated by everyone.
Perfect Fall Getaway
This very clean house has the perfect setting right on the edge of the Hudson River. Everything about the house was perfect and the owner was very friendly and communicative. The one downfall was the commuter rail line across the street with frequently passing trains. We were aware of the train line when booking and grew used to the sounds. The location more than made up for the occasional train horns. The sun room was our favorite spot to sit and watch the boats drift down river.
Beautiful and cozy
Great location along the Hudson River. The train to NYC runs just behind the house so if a person were to want to use the train, Manitou station stop is right there. Bear Mountain is a great spot to hike and watch the sunset. The porch was so charming and quaint and living area was very usable. The owners were very hospitable and kind. Great location to visit West Point and stop for Bear Mountain Pizza.
