Check in and check out was easy. Convenient location in relation to the event we were in Denver for. It is pretty "dated", but clean. Weird layout and never did find one light switch, but also didn't ask the owner. Also couldn't adjust the A/C, as the thermostat was in a locked box, but again, didn't bother to ask the owner if/where there was a key.
I have some issues with the price, but I think that's more with VRBO than with the owner. It really was fine, but I thought overpriced. Sleeps 6, there were 5 of us and I had to pay $15 for each guest past 2 ($45). To me, that is misleading. What's the point of having something that sleeps 6 if you have to pay extra to use it? Why would 2 people want a place that sleeps 6? Again, that may be a VRBO "rule", not the choice of the owner.
Quiet place close to DU
I chose this rental because I liked the retro appearance of the place and also the configuration of beds for 5 people. It was ideal for my sister and her twin teenage sons and my grown daughter and myself. Three queen beds (more common on VRBO) will sleep 6 but would not have worked for us. It was very quiet and clean. It does not have a stove/oven if renters want to cook, there is a microwave and refrigerator. Susan was also very friendly and helpful. I lost a jacket at some point in my travels, and called Susan to see if it was there. She called back right away. Even though the jacket was not found, I appreciate the quick response. The basement location was also nice and cool as Denver had high temps in the last few days. Thank you!
Many Positive Features, However . . .
This property has many positive features. The central location, quiet and safe neighborhood, easy access to the freeway system, and roomy space were all excellent. While we did not meet the host, Vivian, the co-host, Susan, was friendly and helpful with the few questions we had.
We were in Denver for a family event so we spent every day out and only used the rental for sleeping and morning & evening routines. We did not use the TV/video setup, kitchen facilities, or backyard. The moderate June temperatures meant we did not hear the furnace or A/C operating. Parking was excellent as we could park in the driveway with easy access to the backyard entrance and basement stairs. The washer and dryer were used prior to departure without issue.
So why the three star rating?
1) The online pictures are brighter than what we experienced. Without the ceiling lights on it was difficult to read in any location. The furnishing are also worn and dated throughout. I estimate that no rental income is being used to upgrade furnishings.
2) Access to the bathroom area from the living room or second bedroom is difficult with poor lighting and light switches that are difficult to locate and get to safely. Rather than leave the access lights on 24/7 we utilized our flashlight to safely get to the light switches. A couple strings of LED christmas lights might remedy this issue.
The bathroom is functional, but very dated. Notice there are no pictures online. If your bathroom expectations are more modern, you should inquire about actual conditions or look elsewhere.
3) Finally, safety is an issue. This looks like a circa 1950's or older basement. Note the window shades in the pictures. The windows are small and near the ceiling. If the stairway was blocked during a fire or other emergency it would be very difficult to egress through the basement windows. Your life could be at risk. This was "My Bad" as I did not consider our safety when renting this unit. Don't put yourself at risk like I did.
Look around. There are safer options.
