My family and I stayed a week in this accomodation and we simply had a wonderful time! The castle is beautiful and very well equipped. There are three beautiful big bedrooms, each with a nice bathroom. The outside area is cosy and the jacuzzi is an absolute plus!! The owners are really friendly and helpful.
Overall I can greatly recommend staying in the pretty pink castle!!
Our party consists of five Scottish retirees who holiday together regularly. We are two couples and a single gentleman. This year (2018) we spent a week here at Montreuil between the 15th and 22nd September followed by three nights at Samois sur Seine.
Here Camille and her father have resurrected a ruin and created the most charming holiday property imaginable. The "petit chateau" is furnished and fitted out in a style wholly appropriate for the character of the building and there are all sorts of interesting period artefacts. The rooms are well proportioned and bright. Spiral staircases are a feature. Seating and beds are very comfortable. The kitchen has a large pantry cum utility room cum prep room off which is well equipped for catering.
The hot tub/jacuzzi beside the outside sitting area is a great feature which our party enjoyed daily. A great deal of pleasure can be had by experimenting with the various controls and settings!
A favourite of all of us was Ragnar the robot lawnmower. We called him Ragnar to reflect his Swedish origins (Husqvarna). He pottered around cutting away and would periodically return to his dock for another meal of electricity before setting off again.
There is a boulangerie/patisserie in the village, a 15 minute walk from the chateau, which makes brilliant bread and croissants as well as a wide range of thoroughly wicked and enjoyable temptations.
Lastly, but far from least, Camille is lovely. She was very welcoming and attentive and was able to point us to various places (such as the Fromagerie Ganot nearby - a must visit. Limited opening times, so worth checking.)
All in all a fabulous place to holiday. Highly recommended.
If you are looking for a stylish yet comfortable stay in the midst of France, this house may well be your best bet. The house resembles the medieval castle that offers all modern conveniences. Three completely isolated bedrooms are supplemented by spacious dining hall and large kitchen. For those who love cozy evenings around fireplace there is a separate room as well.
While the house is located in the forest, it takes just about an hour to get to Paris, or Reims, or Fontainebleau.
Not far from the house you can find a swimming pool.
The hosts proved to be friendly, ready to provide any possible assistance.
Our first impression of La Folie du Chanois was wow. The drive up to the property through the private woods was amazing. The property itself was a dream to stay in and would make anyone feel extra special and any little girl like a princess. Everything that you could possibly need is provided for you, the property is furnished to a very high standard, the bedrooms are beautiful and the beds extremely comfy and behind every door was a surprise either a beautiful room or a staircase leading out onto the terraces or turrets.
The house is a twenty minute walk from the village where there is a spar, restaurant, garage, pharmacy, boulangerie and patisserie. The next town Chateau Thierry is only a 15 minute drive where there are large supermarkets, shops, restaurants and a castle.
The nearest train station is a 20 min drive in Chessy or you can drive to Paris in just over an hour for the Eiffel Tower and Notre Damn which is also the best place to park, also just over an hour is Versailles where you can visit the palace with parking right next to the palace.
Other attractions we visited both just over an hours drive from the house was Parc Asterix and Provins a medieval Village.
We did use the owners pool which was also lovely.
Camille is a wonderful person and the perfect host she is very friendly and very helpful we communicated via email and she always replied promptly.
I would really recommend this property for the peace and quite and sheer beauty of the house and its surroundings sitting outside having breakfast and lunch just perfect.
