The property was just what we wanted. Comfortable, clean, private, good location, good amenities. The housekeeper was helpful, friendly and efficient. Great stay.
Lovely village location with great sunsets. Good pool that you can do some lengths in. Great comms with owner Christos and caretaker Mrs Froso. And lots of lovely local cats are a bonus.
A peaceful, well-equipped villa with everything you need â highly recommended!
We had a fantastic stay at Villa Aphrodite. The check-in process was seamless thanks to a lockbox with the key inside â super easy after a long travel day. When we arrived, we were greeted with a spacious, spotless home, beautiful views, and thoughtful welcome touches like fresh fruit and drinks, which we really appreciated. The villa was exactly as described (if not better) â comfortable, clean, and clearly well-maintained. The bedrooms were cozy, and the kitchen had everything we needed, including the kinds of little extras that are often overlooked. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the patio each morning â the view was picturesque, and the space was very peaceful. The pool area was a highlight for us. While not heated, it was perfectly comfortable for swimming in early June. There were padded sunbeds and even some pool toys left for us, which made it easy to relax and have fun.The village of Gavalochori is charming and quiet, with a few solid restaurants, a mini market, bakery, and more â all just a short (if steep) walk down the hill. The daily cleaning service was excellent, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout our stay.Overall, our favorite part was just spending time together in the pool. We felt very well taken care of and wouldnât hesitate to recommend Villa Aphrodite to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Crete.
This is a luxurious villa in a lovely village which exceeded expectations. Our family had an amazing time exploring this region in the mornings then swimming / chilling in the the villa in the afternoons. Car probably essential. Almyrida beach (local) is really great for families.
Der Aufenthalt war sehr entspannt. Die HaushÀlterin Froso war sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Die Kommunikation mit Christos und Froso war super einfach und schnell. Die Unterkunft ist nur zu empfehlen.
I stayed here with my adult son and after a little trouble finding it at night, we were thrilled with the size and privacy of the villa. With 3 double bedrooms it meant my son had the whole ground floor to himself.
The living room and kitchen were huge and the vaulted wooden ceiling and wall to wall views over the White mountains very impressive.
We were welcomed with fruit, beer and wine and I had requested some milk for morning tea, which was kindly provided too.
All communication with Christos and Mrs Froso was speedy, friendly and helpful and Mrs Froso was a delight to meet and chat to a couple of times and she couldn't do enough for us, without being the least intrusive.
She asked us to let her know when it would be convenient to clean, rather than just turning up and we appreciated that.
We didn't use the dish washer as we mainly ate out and because there were only 3 mugs, although plenty of plates, glasses, cutlery etc. The fridge freezer was huge and kept things really chilled. The choice of cofee machine was great too.
We loved the area around the pool for our more leisurely days and it felt quiet and secluded although on the edge of the village. It was great to have beach towels provided for a change.
Gavalachori is a beautiful hillside Greek village with hiking trails. The walk down to the local shops and wonderful taverna was perfect and the short hill back up to the villa helped us walk off our feasting!
The tranquil Venetian Wells site was very close by too
We absolutely loved this place. Perfect for a family with grown up kids! Lots of space, easy to go out and eat and everything you need on your doorstep. But also private and quiet.
We loved this villa, particularly eating in the taverna close by then watching the sunset over the hills. It was roomy, clean, well-appointed. The pool and air-conditioning provided balance to the summer's heat. We'd come here again in a flash.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the villa, having been warmly welcomed by the housekeeper. The villa was clean and well maintained. The villa set up was great for a family of 5 and we enjoyed days by the pool and nearby beaches. The terrace provided fantastic views, the local village had some great restaurants and bakery for morning supplies. The owner recommended some good restaurants.
Note you do need a car and the walk from the village is steep.
This is not the place for you if you like mass tourism and crowds - set inside a small village near the mountains. Mrs Froso the housekeeper was super - showing up at 01:30 when we had water issues. The little village and the amazing restaurants - we had our best meals in the island at the restaurant. And the grocery and family just behind the bread store was amazing and had such a great selection of dairy and yoghurt products. The amazing pool and views. Only point is you really do need a car and this is not a stoneâs throw from Chania and Reythymno - everything is long distances to drive. But if youâre happy to stay put in this beautiful villa and lovely pool and stock up on local groceries like we did, youâre set!
Everything about our stay was fabulous. The villa was lovely with stunning views of the white mountains and beautiful sunsets. The village felt unspoilt with lovely restaurants and live music on two of the nights we ate out. The beaches were only a few minutes drive away and we were close enough to visit Chania for a boat trip and to enjoy the old town. Managed to hike the Imbros Gorge and take in the ruins at Aptera. Also, mustn't forget to say thank you to Mrs Froso, the housekeeper, who was lovely. If we ever come back to Crete I would love to stay here again.
Lovely villa, with great views overlooking Gavalohori village and the mountains beyond. Very pleasant outdoor pool area and also an outdoor dining area on the balcony. Plenty of living space indoors. The villa is only a 2-3 minute walk from the village centre where you will find a few good restaurants, small supermarkets, a bakery and coffee shops. The beach at Almyrida is only about 3k away.
If you're looking to sample real life in Crete, Gavalohori is not a tourist village. It's a real working village. Very peaceful!
Christos was very helpful with the arrangements. NB: You really will need a car if you are staying here.
Aphrodite the Goddess how appropriate for such a beautiful Villa. The location and views are stunning. Gavalochori is a beautiful very much alive Village with a Taverna which we used even twice a day for superb food and the staff make you feel so welcome and part of a community. The village shops are well stocked and so hospitable. Our Housekeeper Froso was amazing and could not do enough for us. The Villa had everything you could possibly need and the Pool was fantastic. Would highly recommend the Villa and the area for a perfect holiday.
Lovely villa with glorious views in friendly village
Perfect location for an adult family holiday. Spacious villa with excellent facilities. Close to village shops and really good tavernas. Would definitely return.
Fabulous fortnight in a lovely villa in an authentic Cretian village!
Lovely villa which was spacious, comfortable and cool. We were met and looked after by a lovely housekeeper and the villa and pool was kept clean and tidy. We loved the little village of Gavalachori which had some lovey eateries. Nearby beaches and towns were also a delight. A great relaxing holiday for our family of 5.
