Fun Fall Getaway
If you like modern and luxurious, you might not like this place. But if you like old, nostalgic bungalows--the kind with slightly slanting floors, painted-over paneling and masonite, built-in cupboards and delightfully mismatched dishware, you'll love it. We appreciated the window air conditioner in our bedroom on the unseasonably warm (86 degrees) day of our arrival. The house is comfortably furnished with a well-stocked kitchen (even though we ate simply and and took our main meals at the local restaurants, all within walking distance.) Our bed was cushy, with attractive and comfortable linens. There were lots of towels in the bathroom. Yes, the shower is quirky, but you'll figure it out. (The hot water is on the right; don't turn the faucets on too hard, and you'll get a nice warm shower.) My favorite item was the book on the history of Rogers City, which was a good reference for our bike rides and numerous walks around town. The best things were the ever-changing view of Lake Huron and access to the beach and bike trail right across the street. Bikes were available in the back yard, but we had our own, which we conveniently kept on the front deck. We thoroughly enjoyed bike rides to 40 Mile Point Lighthouse, Hoeft State Park, Vogeler Conservation Area and Seagull Point. We also loved visiting and hiking at Ocqueoc Falls, a short drive away. The town is interesting, friendly, and quiet during early fall. So, even if you prefer modern and luxurious, we think you should try this little gem for a relaxing vacation on the quieter coast of Michigan.
Rogers City vacation
The house is a small 2 bedroom, with a kitchen/dining room, bathroom, and small living room. We knew that ahead of time, and planned on spending most of our time outside anyway. With a pull out sofa, and a queen bed in each bedroom, we slept 6 fairly comfortably. The house was very clean and neat, and stocked with plates, glasses, coffe cups and eating utensils. Cookware was sufficient for our needs. Microwave, toaster and coffee pot as well. Lake Huron is visible from.the front porch, and just a short walk across the field. there's a paved bike trail along the lake, and there were 4 bikes available for our use, so we only had to bring 2 with us. Within walking distance is a nice playground for younger kids. Neighborhood was quiet. Perfect spot for relaxing! For the price, it's definitely a bargain worth checking out!
