The Engadine house in the centre of the village of Ramosch is over 300 years old. It was completely but carefully renovated in 2011, preserving the historic building while adapting it to modern living requirements. In spring 2021, the attic was converted into a large, bright living space with a dormer window offering sweeping views of the valley.
Modern elements and high-quality furnishings meet original building fabric. The antique furnishings come exclusively from the region. Wood sets the tone and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. Generously and stylishly designed, the house with its 330 square metres of living space offers plenty of room for up to 12 people and is the perfect setting for families or a group of friends. The house has been awarded a 5-star qualification by the Swiss Tourism Federation.
The sun terrace with seating area is directly accessible from the eat-in kitchen. From here and from the garden, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Inn Valley and the impressive mountain scenery. The highlight for quiet moments: The sauna! The many traditional windows and the light-coloured sgraffito paintings on the façade give Schilana 80 an open, inviting character. With its antique furniture and luxurious furnishings, the house is no ordinary holiday rental property, but the personally designed holiday home of a Swiss family living abroad, who are very grateful for the great care they have taken with their tenants. Due to its private use, reservations can only be made a maximum of six months in advance.
Design, furnishings and practical tips
Schilana 80 offers over 330 square metres of living space on four levels and has the traditional structure of the Engadine barn house. The architect Duri Vital from the neighbouring village of Sent carefully transferred this to the present day in 2011 and created a successful combination of old and new.
Ground floor The entrance gate leads into the so-called Sulèr, the large, central entrance room. A long table with many chairs makes it the communicative centrepiece of the house. The parlour with its old larch wood panelling, brick-built stove and comfortable sofa invites you to relax and unwind. From the kitchen-cum-living room with its high-quality furnishings, you have direct access to the large panoramic terrace. On the ground floor there is also a bedroom with two beds and a bathroom (shower/WC).
First floor The music room with piano (room 4 on the plan), three bedrooms (one large room with a comfortable sofa and two beds, "room 3", and two rooms with a double bed each: "room 1" and "room 2") and a bathroom (bath/shower/WC) lead off the long, spacious hallway on the first floor. (A 4th bedroom on the 1st floor, "Room 5", is not accessible as it is the private room of the Swiss owners who live abroad).
Attic The bright room offers 56 square metres of comfortable living space with sofas and armchairs, a fireplace, a pool table and a sink/teen table. From there you can access another bedroom with a double bed and bathroom (shower/WC)
Basement The wooden door in the basement leads into the former covered stable yard, through which the cows used to be led into the neighbouring barn. Today there is a further living room/bedroom with sofa/double bed ("Cellar 2" on the plan) and a spacious sauna with bathroom ("Cellar 3") as well as a laundry room. (The room "Cellar 1" is not accessible to tenants).
Dogs - provided they are well behaved and clean - are welcome on the ground floor. Schilana 80 is a non-smoking house. Thank you for your understanding! Please only enter the attic and the first floor with slippers.
Shopping The village shop in Ramosch (the shop sells excellent Engadine bread) is 150 metres from the house. - The nearest larger town for shopping is Scuol, eight kilometres away. - Furthermore, for shopping in Austria with a large supermarket, Pfunds can be reached in 20 minutes by car.
Exclusion of liability The landlord is not liable for any accidents, including damage caused by ice falling from the roof in front of the house (e.g. on cars parked there) or snow sliding off the roof in the garden on the right-hand side of the small staircase that leads to the garden terrace. (The sun terrace in front of the kitchen as well as the stairs and the left-hand side are protected). This also applies to the steep stairs to the attic and the glass door at the entrance (danger for children's hands).
Ramosch in summer and winter
Ramosch in the Lower Engadine lies at 1,250 metres above sea level in the middle of a picturesque landscape, surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop. As one of the places in Switzerland with the least rainfall, it is the warmest village in the Engadin in summer. The mild climate and good soil conditions once made Ramosch and the higher-lying Vnà the "granary" of the Engadin. The stepped terraces of the former fields on the slopes around Ramosch still bear witness to this.
The first Christian church in the valley was located in the village in the 6th century, from where the Christian community of the Engadin developed. The Florinus Church is the second largest reformed church in the canton after St Martin's Church in Chur. It used to serve as a pilgrimage church, to which people made pilgrimages because of the legend of Florinus, who was the parish priest of the small village in the seventh century and worked miracles. The village was ravaged by two devastating fires in 1881 and 1883, from which only the house and two other buildings as well as the church were spared.
The medieval castle ruins of Tschanüff are the second attraction and are located 200 metres from the house on a mountain hill, which is also known for its flora. This is also the starting point for a hike into the Val Sinestra. The Engadin has always been a special destination. Many writers and artists - including Friedrich Nietzsche - have found their source of inspiration here and even today the region, characterised by lakes, pastures and winding side valleys with its authentic, small villages, offers the perfect setting for a holiday of deceleration, leisure and blissful relaxation.
Summer Ramosch offers everything a summer holiday heart desires: quiet hiking trails with breathtaking views, alpine huts for overnight stays for extended mountain hikes, challenging cycle routes, local arts and crafts, climbing park.... Adults and children alike will find their holiday dimension here.
Winter Ramosch lies between attractive ski areas. The valley station of the ski area in Scuol (with 14 cable cars and lifts at 1250 to 2785 metres) can be reached by car in 10 minutes and by post bus in 20 minutes. The Nauders ski area in Austria can be reached in 20 minutes by car (40 minutes by post bus) and the Samnaun/Ischgl ski area in 30-35 minutes (just over an hour by post bus). The Lower Engadine cross-country skiing piste down in the Inn Valley is a 10-minute walk from the house. In Sur En, on the Inn four kilometres up the valley, there is a long ice-skating trail. The winter toboggan run from Vnà to Ramosch is also highly recommended. Ramosch is also a perfect starting point for ski and snowshoe hikes.

Other bedroom furnishings (bedroom 1): Bedside table, wardrobe, small sofa

Location description: Ramosch is one of the driest places in Switzerland and is considered the warmest Engadin village in summer. The mild climate and good soil conditions once made Ramosch and Vnà the "granary" of the Engadin. On the slopes around Ramosch, the stepped terraces used to irrigate the fields still bear witness to this. The "Tschanüff" castle ruins are special from a historical and conservation point of view as well as in terms of the flora on the castle hill. Entrance to Val Sinestra.
