Puerto de Mazarron is a welcoming and typical Spanish resort with many holiday homes being owned by Spanish families. During August tourists from Madrid and other cities holiday in the Port . They bring their own atmosphere of gaiety and joy with them. It is certainly a delight to witness the extended familes enjoying the beaches, the paseo and particularly the restaurants as they love to linger over good food.

The area is largely agricultural with crops ranging from tomatoes to artichokes to oranges. Be brave and take a walk on 'The wild side'. You will be captivated by the flora and fauna and maybe catch a glimpse of a goat herder among the hills. The mountain ranges are numerous and beguiling, especially at sunset, and they provide a beautiful backdrop to the working port. One simple pleasure not to be missed is watching the tuna boats return to harbour each day.

Guests can discover much in the local area. There are intriguing Roman ruins including baths, villas, bridges and fish salting remains. Visit the contemporary museum to learn more of the history of the Port.

This is an Ideal location for a relaxed beach holiday for all the family as there are many beautiful, and particularly safe, beaches along the coast. Most boast water sports, beach bars, and toilet facilities.

A recent addition for tourists is a choice of scenic boat trips taking in the local coastline and boats offering dolphin excursions.

Several golf courses are within easy driving distance for the enthusiast. Camposol, (15 mins) La Manga (40 mins)and Fuento Alamo (30mins) providing a variety of difficulty and landscapes.

City life is only a 40 minute spectactular drive away, through the mountains to Cartagena, which is a bustling metropolis of port, marina, ancient ruins, shops and much more. Don't miss the historic Roman amphitheatre. This day out is a must for your holiday, particularly if you are lucky enough to catch a local fiesta. Take a local coach to either Cartagena or Murcia for an even more relaxing excursion.

The university city of Murcia is an hours drive by car or coach. There is much to discover in this charming city. A wondrous cathedral, elegant palaces and a decadent casino. You'll be spoilt for choice with bustling pavement cafes and restaurants.

Why not visit Totana. There is a truly local country market each Wednesday, where you can marvel at the variety, colour and presentation of locally grown fruit and vegetables. The city is remarkable for its ancient buildings and large, open plazas. From Totana take the road up the mountain to the Monastery, surrounded by pine trees, where you will believe you have stepped back in time. Explore the gardens, which were carved from the earth by monks. Possibly the best Menu del dia in the area can be bought for just 12 euros per person in the elegant dining room.

Although a favourite beach resort during the summer months the coastline is always spectactular throughout the whole year. It's a delight to simply follow your nose, stopping off where and whenever you fancy to enjoy the scenery or a leisurely meal. You will be sure to find your 'own little gem'.
