Rustic at it's best!

  • 4 de 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay. It is rustic for sure and that is part of the charm. Kids have so many choices of things to do and can keep busy from dawn to dusk. Then the evening comes and all can chill out by the fabulous fire pit. What makes the entire experience so terrific is Mike, the king of hosts!

GREAT VACATION!

  • 5 de 5

Our stay was amazing! Everything is just as advertised. A super relaxing rustic stay. We loved being right on the lake. We had a great time using the row boat and the kayaks. Plenty of fishing on the lake and off the pier. Mike was the best host we could of ever hoped for. He was there for anything we needed. Helped us carry our stuff down the long steep staircase to the bungalow. He showed us everything about the property and was there for anything we needed. He was a wealth of information about things to do in the area. He was even so kind as to let us come a day early and stay an extra night to see the annual fair fireworks. We reccomend this place to anyone and we will be back for sure.

Wonderful cottage, host and overall stay

  • 5 de 5

My family had a marvelous week in this cottage just a few feet from the lake, and hope to go back next year for sure.

This is much more than just a rented place to stay. The property is full of its own entertainments that became the focus of our trip of two adults,a teenager and a water-loving dog.

Michael, our host, is a welcoming, kind and interesting local, and helped us figure out how to spend out time while were were in the region. His knowledge is a precious resource. We were glad we took his advice, often passing by mobbed, touristy farmer's markets for off-the-path ones which were much cheaper, too.

Each day, we ventured out for a few hours and then wanted to come back to the house.

We loved it for lots of reasons. We've never had so much private access to water. There are just two or three other piers in view of this one, meaning its just your family, a rustic little house, and the lake. The place is equipped with two different types of kayak, a canoe, a rowboat and a paddle board, and a bunch of life jackets. We boated every day - sometimes several times each day, appreciating the simplicity of putting on a life jacket and launching into the water, and paddling around until we got tired or thirsty. (It was a wonderful change from our usual boating routine: mount boats on cars, pack things for every little contingency, snacks, water, etc, drive to a launch, unpack equipment, park car, launch boat, realize you forgot something important... and so on).

There is also tons of other games and equipment about, like a horseshoes range, fly-fishing rods, fishing nets, diving goggles, etc. Some of the equipment is well-worn and in good order, and much of it is new. Our teen never missed his gaming system.

We started most days with a swim, coffee and water-fetch with the dog. We cooked almost all our meals outside on the grill or next to the campfire, read lots, and ended the day with a little boating, drinks on the pier, stargazing, and then boardgames. Perfect.

When we rent homes, we often feel like we inherit the complexity of other people's lives during our stay. I remember once spending my vacation trying to keep an owner's white carpets clean, even though all walkways to the house were just dirt. We had none of that nonsense here - the simplicity of the house allowed us to simply live during our stay. And our host was gracious to boot.

Bungalow on the Beach

  • 4 de 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Bungalow for the 4th of July in 2016 and 2017. This is the place to enjoy rustic lake life. The Bungalow has a great shale beach front enjoyed by my family and our dog.

There are may amenities offered to enjoy different aspects of living by the lake. You can catch your own bait and run a trout line, sleep in a hammock on the beach, kayak, canoe, fish from the dock, swim, or enjoy one of the many board or field games offered at the site. At the end of the day make a fire to cook over, us the propane grill, or use the inside full kicthen and relax as the night sets in.

Mike's knowledge of the surrounding area can lead you on a rainy day trip or direct you to local markets and enjoy the many tastes of the region.

The stairs are a great workout to help burn off the daiquiris we enjoyed every night as the sun set.

Fun in the Sun

  • 4 de 5

We really enjoyed a chance to get away for a family vacation. Michael (the host) was extremely helpful, even bringing down a crockpot for us to use. We especially liked the use of kayaks, rowboat, and a rubber raft. Live jackets were provided as well. Even though the accommodations inside the cabin are quite rustic and dusty, we used the outside tables for meals and doing rock art. You can fish right off the dock and at night enjoy a huge bonfire in the firepit. We even got to see some of the Pleiades meteor shower. The kids (10 & 11) happily interacted with the labradors. The adults enjoyed using wifi outside at the table. (It doesn't function inside). Remember to bring: sheets, towels, extra blankets, toilet paper and flashlights. You're in for quite an adventure!

retreat on the lake

  • 4 de 5

This 100 year old cabin, very charming and loved, is a retreat for reading, fishing and sitting by the fire. The cabin's description is accurate, although we found the grounds a bit messy. A canoe, rowboat and 4 kayaks are available for your exclusive use and the rock beach is all yours. Mr. Black was a great host, helping us in our efforts to catch a fish, fixed a small leak in the sink, provided us a wonderful loaf of locally made bread, gave us a rock art lesson, and provided excellent recommendations for restaurants (Garcias and Jerlando's our favorites) and activities (Watkins Glen State Park and Museum of the Earth just wonderful). If you like locally made high end crafts, please look for Millport Landing, a small shop in Millport in a renovated opera house. Things to think about: You need to bring bedding and towels as well as water for drinking and cooking. There really are over 60 steep steps to access the cabin. Wifi only worked outside of the cabin. The tv picked up a few digital stations and a DVD player is available. The driveway is steep and somewhat rutted. There are at least a dozen wineries very close by. The dock is awesome. The sky is beautiful at night. You will love this place if you like the outdoors.
