An enchanting property awaits you in the rolling hills of Gascony. It is situated on a small hill and is surrounded by a two hectare garden.
We discovered this beautiful, approximately 300 year old country estate in the south of France on one of our trips through the region and have carefully renovated it over the last five years. We have brought it up to date with characterful bedrooms and the installation of modern bathrooms, without losing the charm of its old walls.
We would like to share with guests our love of French ‘savoir-vivre’ - the art of enjoying life. For us this means relaxation, conviviality and of course, good food and good wine. To realise this passion, we draw on twenty year’s experience running our small, romantic restaurant in Hamburg, and will use the wonderful products from this region alongside our own vegetable and herb gardens.
The wineries surrounding our estate offer a variety of experiences, including dégustations (wine-tastings), dinners and culture. In general, cultural events take place here on the streets and in the squares. There is a lot to discover in the area - small romantic towns with interesting markets where farmers and local producers sell their goods, or simply the beautiful landscape with its scenic hills and vineyards. Or you can take a day trip to the beaches of the Atlantic or to the Pyrenees, both of which are around two hours away, as are Toulouse and Bordeaux cities. Éauze, the nearest town, around three kilometres away, is the capital of Armagnac - Gascony’s famous brandy - and is also directly located on the pilgrim route of the Camino de Santiago.
And if you are interested in wine, you are in the middle of paradise here. There are many wineries in the immediate proximity of these world-renowned, wine-growing regions and their chateaux around Bordeaux, which can also be reached quickly. Flea and antique markets can be found everywhere, incorporating visitors into Gascony life.
Since the house is in the countryside, guests will require their own transport. There are affordable car and bicycle rental services in Éauze.
Here in the town centre there is a 500 year old cathedral where concerts are often held. During the summer months there are also regular outdoor musical performances. In Marciac, fifty kilometres away, there is an internationally renowned jazz festival with musicians such as Diana Krall, Melody Gardot and Carlos Santana taking part.
And if you know d’Artagnan or want to learn something about him, you can follow in the footsteps of the most famous Gascon, known from the novel “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas and its many film adaptations. In Lupiac, his birthplace, there is a museum and nearby the Château de Castelmore, where he grew up. By the way, it’s for sale.
