This is the only little private boutique resort we know of that offers the opportunity to spend day after day taking in the beauty of a coral reef filled with a variety of marine life. Some guests even swim out and back; that is how close it is (distance 1 mile).

Sea Ranch Cottage sits directly on the water, and Rasta Ranch is just behind Sea Ranch -- a small sandy beach steps from your door.

Each furnished cottage features a spacious living/dining porch with privacy shades, a ceiling and table-fanned bedroom with a queen-size bed, a fully equipped kitchenette, a private bathroom, and unique open-air showers with reliable electric hot water outside in a walled garden of flowering vines.

A/C is an additional surcharge of US$15/night. You pay this directly on the island when you want to use it. We ask that you only use the A/C at night when getting ready for bed/sleeping.

Jamaican paintings, carvings, and books abound. CD/radio players. Sea kayaks and seabed/floats. An outside grill and separate cookhouse with freezer-fridge and oven should you wish to hire Laga to cook local meals for US$20 + supplies. Or dine out at a handful of good little places.

Located just an hour from MoBay and Negril, Horizon offers a unique escape from the tourist crowds. Nestled in a traditional fishing village, Sea Ranch and Rasta Ranch Cottages have been featured in Caribbean Travel & Life: Jamaica's Hidden Coast, offering a truly off-the-beaten-track experience.

Horizon offers a shared seaside jetty, sea kayaking, and snorkeling gear (2-sets supplied for each cottage). Housekeeper (Sophia), manager and tour guide (Diego), hire cook and night watchman (Laga).

Laga can be hired to prepare dinner for US$20 + supplies. Diego can be hired for excursions to wherever you want to explore: YS Falls, the Blue Hole Gardens, Negril, and Black River, to name just a few.

This private seaside compound is in an untouristed fishing village. It is a favorite of artists, writers, honeymooners, and adventuresome first-time visitors who come back again and again.

"Utterly charming" says the Lonely Planet Guide to Jamaica of Sea Ranch and Rasta Ranch, "two sweet cottages in a private oceanfront setting".

-The famous Peter Tosh is a son of Belmont. His monument is just down the road you can walk right over to it, the locals there will show you around -- you may find his CD's or t-shirt on sale as well

-You can hire Laga or Trevor to take you fishing for US$45/hr

-Kayak to the reef which is about 2.5 km out directly in front of Horizon, were you will see a lot of sea life

-A trip to Negril for some dinner and nightlife (you have to hire a driver)

-Walk to Mt Carey, straight up the hill across the road will take you past the playfield up to a beautiful view of the village and the sea. LAGA is happy to be your guide and introduce you to the locals; farmers riding their donkey or tending their gardens, children playing, etc (please give him a little for his time)

-Close by, the town of Savanna-la-Mar (20+ minutes away) for shopping can be arranged as well with hire driver

-Or you can just take in the sweetness of just doing nothing at all (one of my favorite tings to do on island)
Other things to note
Additional areas you pay for on-island directly:

1. Cottage Cleaning Gratuity - - US$8/night based on number of nights you rent. Please leave the gratuity under your pillow on your departure day.

Example: US$25 for a 3-night rental

2. Meal Preparation - - US$20 + meal supplies to Laga. He will shop and prepare you a meal.

Guests really enjoy his meals.

3. A/C is an additional surcharge of US$15/night.

It is paid on the island directly to Diego, Horizon's manager, or to Sophia, Horizon's housekeeper.
