Gibbes Glade is a wonderful villa. The place is very well kitted out, and there are staff in everyday to help maintain a high standard of living. We throughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this place. Maria keeps in contact on a daily basis and the manager will check in most days to help with anything too.
Perfect in every way
We have recently returned from a wonderful 10 night stay at GGV where we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We were a party of eight comprising of two families with 3 teenagers and an 11 year old and the villa was ideal for our group. Everything from the initial booking to the help, support and guidance offered by Maria and her incredible team was just perfect.
We had had the most amazing time and made wonderful memories to cherish and we cannot thank Maria enough for all the care, attention to detail and guidance she gave to enable us to have a truly memorable experience. Maria's recommendations were spot on; we will never, ever forget the Good Times catamaran cruise where we swam with turtles - I was so overwhelmed by the experience, it made me cry!
The villa is a wonderful sanctuary where we enjoyed outdoor meals, swimming and games and where we shared much laughter and far too many rum punches! The monkeys even visited us one afternoon which was a huge treat for us all.
Tonya and Natalie were so friendly and always there to help if needed and Donald is such a wonderful gentleman who went out of his way to show us the local sights.
It is rare today to find people who care so much about the happiness of others and we would like to thank Maria and her fabulous team for their attention to detail, their genuine care and for making our special holiday and our 25th wedding celebrations ones to truly remember....we loved every single moment and we will be back...
Thank you Maria!
Many thanks Jayne. You were delightful guests and we loved having you stay with us. Its hugely important that the reality of your long-awaited special vacation lived up to the dream and that you made many memories to cherish. Of course we look forward to you making more with us :-)
Wonderful 2 Week Stay
We have recently returned from a 2 week holiday at GGV. Upon arrival the house was immaculately maintained and was better than the pictures show. The pool and surroundings were excellently maintained. The BBQ was great, and we cooked on it most nights when we didn't go out for dinner, enjoying the large veranda.
The highlight of being around the pool was a visit by a troop of monkeys one afternoon causally strolling along the fence.
Gibbs Beach was a short walk and always nice and quiet. Mullins Beach although closer was a lot busier and more touristy, but the local rum punch was excellent so worth a visit just for that!
Would highly recommend Tides, Lone Star and Cin Cin for dinner, and the Cliff Beach Club for lunch. Oistins Friday Fish Fry in our opinion is a night not to be missed but go open minded (we ate at Pat's place and thoroughly enjoyed it).
Another must do is a catamaran trip - we used Silvermoon and had a brilliant day. Great crew, great boat, great food and drink. Swimming with the turtles was an amazing experience for the whole family.
The reason we have given 4 out of 5 is purely because we felt that air conditioning would be a valuable addition to the main living area. This would allow the doors to be kept shut and hopefully the mosquitoes at bay, as we did all suffer from multiple bites whilst in the house. This would not deter us from returning to GGV in the future.
Maria is an absolute star, with quick responses throughout, especially with arranging fast track security, transfers, shopping and any other queries we had.
Barbados and GGV you were a delight and we had a fantastic time.
I am glad you had such a great time Katie and I'm only sorry to hear, that like myself, no matter the amount of fumigating, (I believe Trevor fogged 3 times during your stay) electric dynatrap zappers, repellent and room spray I use, the mosquitoes and sandflies still find me out! After EXTENSIVE research, I can attest to the 24/7 use of Incognito repellent (a British brand available on Amazon), repellent, shower gel and body lotion to give me the best chance I’m ever going to get against sandfly and mosquito. At home in Scotland, the midges also seem to find me irresistible!
August would be the height of mosquito and sandfly activity and unlike Europe, they are out the whole day,…when I get the inevitable bite using a little zapper directly onto the bite as soon as I become aware of it, is very useful to break the histamine reaction down.
Regrettably, due to the huge room size, when we investigated putting AC’s in the main living room when we first bought the villa, we were advised that they were simply not feasible and would be ineffective anyhow. However we find it very nice to have the 3 sets of double doors from the main room left open, from dawn to dusk for a lovely through breeze in the main living room. Once we close the doors around sunset, we give a good spray of Baygon room repellent, then once again before retiring just to be sure, which pretty much does the trick. Leaving the ceiling fans on in every room and rear terrace also certainly helps and of course, there’s the dynatraps in the bedrooms.
I really hope you have better luck next time. You are actually the first ‘complaint’ we’ve ever had on this….sorry!
The Perfect Holiday Retreat
This was our first time staying at Gibbs Glade Villa and we absolutely loved it! Our group comprised of 7 adults and 1 toddler, and Maria, Tonya and the entire staff were very welcoming and accommodated of all our needs. A crib and a high chair were provided for our son, which made travelling much lighter for us.
The villa had very spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a fully functional kitchen, including laundry.
The majority of our time at Gibbs Glade was spent soaking up the sun in the beautiful backyard and perfect sized pool.
It was an easy 5 minute walk to the quiet Gibbes beach, and the busier Mullins beach.
We rented a vehicle from Stoutes for 5 days, and we highly recommend it. It would be a shame to not do some exploring of this beautiful island. Nothing is too far away either, making day trips all around the island possible. We enjoyed St. Nicholas Abbey, Cherry Tree Hill, Cattlewash, Bathsheba, Animal Flower Cave (great spot for lunch) and many other beaches we visited.
There are also some very good spots for dinner that are close by. Our favourites were Bombas, Jumas, and The Fish Pot. If you are looking for a cocktail, check out One Eleven Beach Bar in Speightstown, or West Bar down in Holetown.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that you will fall in love with Gibbs Glade Villa and Barbados if you decide to visit.
We can't wait to make more memories and book another trip back!
Thank you Andrew. I'm glad that someone else finds it difficult to drag oneself away from the villa, but its such a short walk to the idyllic Gibbs one can be back around the beautiful poolside in no time! We hope that you and the family will be back.
Second stay this time for our Barbados wedding.
We chose to stay at GGV for the second time whilst we got married in Barbados earlier this month, Maria the villa owner runs an exceptionally professional operation with no rental detail overlooked, from the organising of fast track through the airport and airport transfers upon arrival to the much needed free entry passes for the famous Mullins Beach bar now sadly in the hands of Royal Westmorland all requirements are taken into consideration, on this occasion Maria went out of her way at no extra cost to accommodate one of our guests who is disabled (thank you again Maria).
The villa is very well appointed and kept spotless 5 times a week by the wonderful Natalie who cleans in a very subtle manner you will hardly notice she is there.
Donald and Suzanne are on hand if you need them to organise taxi services and island tours etc.
5 minutes from Gibbs and Mullins beach along with various West coast restaurants the location is perfect, we would suggest you hire a car and again Maria has this covered with a genuine 15% reduction available from Stoute’s car hire.
All in all we highly recommend GGV it’s considerably steps ahead of other villas within the same area that we’ve stayed in previously, we will return very soon.
Thank you for the great review Matt. We were pleased to play a small part in your BIG DAY. We don't get to see many of our guests twice in the same year, but roll on December!
If you're reading this get a rum punch and book the villa.
This was the perfect way to celebrate my 35thbirthday with my girls. From start to finish everything was perfection starting with Maria who answered every email quickly and always kept in touch. We went with Maria’s suggestion of purchasing fast track which was totally worth it. We were greeted by a member of the fast track team and personally escorted through customs with a breeze. He even watched our luggage while we shopped at duty free. We were then greeted by our driver Donald (more on him later) who took us to our villa. The pictures didn’t do this place justice. It was perfectly manicured, clean and quiet. Tonya the property manager took us on a tour and her daughter was gorgeous. We also had Tonya shop for us in advance so we had a few things to eat after a day of traveling but we ended up going to the store for a few more things. We each had our own ensuite bathroom which was perfect for us with the exception of the room with the twin beds having the bathroom accessible to the main living area. The next day we met Natalie and Trevor who I believed to secretly be ninjas. They inflated pool toys and cleaned the rooms. We basically lived at the pool which was 4ft 8in deep throughout. The star of the trip was our driver Donald. He gave us tours of the island including where the Queen Rihanna stays and showing us the most expensive house for sale. He always made sure we were safe even if it meant going out of his way or keeping him out late. We felt bad for calling him late but he always answered and picked us up with a smile. He brought us mangos from his tree that we wish we could’ve brought back. He truly made us feel like family. We decided to go on the Good Times Catamaran which was so fun. I can’t swim but I got my butt in that ocean and saw the most beautiful sea turtles and fish. The beach was a short walk and we took advantage of the Mullins beach club access. Although we got there a bit late, the staff was still accommodating. Oistins is a must on Friday night (The snapper at Mo’s is to die for) by far the best meal we had the entire trip. Donald took us to a small restaurant to grab some food before we left. It was so good we all fell asleep going to the airport. Overall I had a very memorable birthday. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. Everyone on the staff was so kind and we’re planning on coming back.
Thank you so much Crystal. We are delighted that you and 'the girls' had such a fabulous, albeit, short, stay with us. Thanks also for giving the lovely Donald the special mention he so deserves. We are extremely fortunate that everyone of the GGV team is committed to ensuring that our guests stay with us is all they dreamed of. Although you must make it a little longer next time!
