Stunning location with private access to the town wall overlooking Menai Strait. Spacious sitting rooms, full kitchen, washer/dryer, 7 bedrooms (4 ensuite), sauna, and room for your extended family. Easy walking access to restaurants, bakeries, galleries, the promenade, the Welsh Highland Railway, and Caernarfon Castle. A fifteen minute drive from Yr Eryri (Snowdonia) and an easy day trips to Anglesey beaches as well an infinite number of scenic walks and historical sites.
Great house for an extended family holiday. It worked for ages ranging from 48 to 5, including some special needs children. (But be aware, there are lots of stairs, so not really suitable for the physically disabled)The teenagers didnât feel the WiFi was fast enough, but managed. More photos of the kitchen would be helpful, particularly the size of the fridge. More information about the parking situation would be useful, (before booking). There are lots of bathrooms, but due to the low water pressure, only one person could shower, at a time. Also we couldnât find the laundry hampers, so left used bedding and towels on the landing. (When leaving) The location was brilliant, especially for a history enthusiast, with lovely local beaches, a short drive away. The owners were prompt to respond to messages, and the stay was generally enjoyed by everyone.
In 2024, Isfryn changed ownership and is now under the care and guardianship of an American couple, Sarah and Dan. Sarah is the author of more than fifty novels, all set in medieval Wales, and is conversational in the Welsh language. In order to know the country, culture, and history as well as she does, Sarah convinced Dan to spend as much time in Wales as possible! Danâs photographs are featured throughout the house and provide a stunning complement to any exploration of North Wales.
Sarah and Dan met Isfryn for the first time during a 2022 trip when seeking a holiday let that could become their âhome baseâ for future trips to Wales. In particular, they were looking for a Welsh-speaking community where Sarah could improve her command of the language.
It is their pleasure to renovate and restore the home not only for themselves and their own family, but for others, whether those looking for a break from daily routine or for the perfect central location to explore North Wales, see its beauty, and dive deeper into its intriguing history.
As someone who writes historical fiction novels set in medieval Wales, Sarah has a particular affinity for this location. The medieval town wall, begun in 1283, forms part of Isfryn's back garden, and the raised deck overlooks the wall and offers spectacular views of the castle and the Menai Strait. The house is built on land that once made up the queen's garden, first belonging to Queen Eleanor, wife of King Edward I. As one of the few holiday lets available within the walled town itself, Isfryn offers not only a comfortable and spacious home away from home, but a unique window into the past. We've been spending time in Caernarfon since 2012 and we believe that it may be the best location in the town.
