This area of NC is very beautiful and quiet with a lot of winding, country roads... almost feels like going back in time a bit. If you're looking for relative seclusion this is a good spot. The closest country store from the cabin is about 20 minutes drive, so you can get gas and modest food supplies easily enough. The cabin was nice and clean, had a well stocked kitchen with enough pots and pans, utensils, spices, etc. We cooked there most days because the nearest eateries are bit of a drive away. We had no cell service for most of the trip in that area, but the cabin does have wifi and a landline so you’re set. The only cell service we got was at the top of Max Patch Loop.
Max Patch Loop is around 25 minute drive and is definitely a must-see spot for this area. It's part of the Appalachian Trail and has wonderful 360 degree overlooks of the whole region, so don't miss out.
My wife and I also ventured into downtown Hot Springs multiple days (about 30-40 minutes drive there), and it’s a cute little town on the French Broad River. I fished some and the scenery is beautiful, even if you don’t catch anything it’s worth it just to soak it all in. Later we stopped in at the Iron Horse Station for food and beer and everything was really good. Next door is the Artisun Gallery and Cafe so we got coffee and looked around and that was cool. There is a local spa in town but they were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday so my wife was sad.
If you want a ‘bigger’ city to check out there is Waynesville about an hour away. We went there for a day, did some antiquing and general cruising around the town. If you need more shops and dining options then this would be a good place to visit.
Our overall impression of the cabin and the area is positive. Depending on the person the pros and cons could be interchanged though, haha:
•Secluded and quiet
•Long winding, country roads which equals longer drive times (but the scenery is nice!)
•Nearby hiking and fishing
•Time to relax and be more creative
Magical mountain cabin
This cabin is absolutely magical. We had a great time and the quiet, relaxing location was great to get away and disconnect from everything. The kitchen is stocked with absolutely everything you could need and more. Its rustic but extremely comfortable. The drives to and from this cabin are breathtaking. We are already planning our return.
I do recommend you bring some of your own firewood if you’re going to use the fire pit. Otherwise a great spot to get away for some days and enjoy the scenery!!
Relax and enjoy
My wife and I enjoyed the quiet and seclusion of the property as we saw the sights of the area. Everything was as advertised in their Ad.
Andrew and Heidi were quick to respond on anything we asked.
Thanks for the MEMORIES!!
