Located within walking distance of the village of Saint Didier (2km), our villa is the perfect retreat in the heart of Provence. Surrounded by an oak plantation used to harvest truffles, you will find a refreshing shade in the hot summer months. A private pool is available to further help you get to the ideal temperature.
This home has such potential but needs some TLC to achieve it. The layout is comfortable and livable although we weâre unable to use the upstairs bedroom and bath due to the heat. That area isnât air conditioned. We used the pool almost daily after it was cleaned, however the liner was pealing at all of the corners. The grounds are lovely as is the poolside patio area. Keeping the mosquitoes away is almost a full time job, but that should not reflect on the owner or manager. The location is in a quite area of detached homes very close to the charming village of St. Didier and itâs lively Monday market day.
The house is beautiful and more spacious than the listing implies. Having a pool and terrace to ourselves was a great feature for our holiday. Unfortunately, we arrived in Pernes-les-Fontaines during one of the most extreme heatwaves the area has experienced (34-40C every day for 3 weeks). The upstairs bedroom was too hot to use and so we had to change our sleeping arrangements to use only the 3 downstairs bedrooms. There is nothing that the owners could do about the heatwave and they have indicated that the upper bedroom will be air conditioned after this season is finished. Our only other issue was the mosquitoes. Whether they were more prevalent due to the extreme heat, we don't know, but we were very badly bitten and after the first 10 days, we had to stop using the terrace in the evenings. No amount of repellent or sprays could control the biting. It was intolerable for us. If mosquitoes don't bother you much then you won't have any issues. They loved us though.
In summary, a fab house that made a great base for exploring and for having lazy days by the pool. In extreme weather, be prepared to battle the mosquitoes.
Perfect French Cottage - great location for base travel
The cottage was just fine - with everything you need for a great holiday in France. There was a hot water issue for a few days, but the owner was completely responsive and worked to fix the situation. Great location for exploring Provence.
Born and raised in France, we have been living in the United States for over 10 years. We have kept solid roots in the South of France and visit as regularly as possible. When there, we enjoy the unique charm of the local villages, long hikes in the Luberon and Mont Ventoux, as well as tasty meals.
This villa has been our family house for a number of years. When our family relocated we could bring ourselves to sell it. VRBO is giving us a unique opportunity to share its hospitality with our guests
Located in a Cheneraie, the Villa is on large 2500m2 parcel covered by over 20 white and green oaks. It feels like a little forest, and while it is definitely not groomed like a "jardin a la Francaise" we loved having this bit of wilderness near our house. The swimming pool is covered for both safety and temperature management in the summer. On the second floor of the property is a "Suite parentale" that we have recently renovated. It features a full bathroom which gives a couple a bit of privacy away from the 3 other bedroom located on the ground floor. Finally, the villa is a 15min walk away from the gorgeous village in St. Didier. We love walking into town in the morning to breathe the fresh country side air and purchase fresh croissants and baguette for our kids.
