Hvalfjarðarsveit Cottage with Large Wooden Deck, Mountain View + Great Location

Remote, quiet location, yet only 40 minutes from Reykjavík.
Our Cottage is located in West Iceland with a view over Lake Eiðisvatn, the Hvalfjörður fjord and the spectacular mountains around the fjord.
It's behind the small village of Melahverfi, which is signposted on the ring road and around 15 minutes away from Akranes.

In autumn and winter, this is also a good place to watch the Northern Lights.
Although the view is wonderful, you can't help but see an aluminium plant a few kilometres away. We don't mind this sight - we live in our house next to the Cottage.

Our cottage has a spacious living, dining and kitchen area, 1 bathroom (sink, toilet and shower) and 2 bedrooms. In one bedroom can sleep 3 people, the other 2 people.
The large veranda with panoramic view also invites you to linger.

You can park your car on our property directly in front of the parking sign for guests.
The path on the left side leads past our house, directly to the Cottage.

The property was well located, lovely and warm. We were very comfortable there and had some amazing family time. Kathrin was very welcoming, helpful and provided us with information and guidance.

Perfect stay

We loved our stay here. The hosts were very nice, going out of their way to give us a tour. The cabin is next to their house but it feels really private and the views are spectacular. I hope to make it back one day and will absolutely stay here again!

Wonderful Cottage

We only had a short stay, but the host was just fabulous! Very clean and well cared for, spacious enough for a family of 5. The cottage was so charming, we wished we had longer to stay. When we have to opportunity to return to Iceland, we will try and stay here again.

Great location, cute cottage

The view is splendide, just off route 1 , less than 45 min from the capital. Not far from golden circle. The owners are very friendly. This was our last stay and it will be kept at a great lasting experience.

Perfect end to a wonderful trip

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is great - peaceful and serene yet easy access to multiple destinations. The cottage is charming and nicely appointed - had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting in the comfy furniture and gazing out at the view. Hosts were delightful and had some great recommendations. Already planning to return next year with my husband and we will definitely stay here.

Home with a view

This home is spacious and clean with a fantastic view. The open concept living room with windows all across the front is a perfect place for family to relax after a long day of exploring. The kitchen is large and fully equipped to prepare any meal. I would highly recommend this property for a family of 4 or 5 people.

Great Location, wonderful cottage

This cottage was fantastic for 2 couples. The location is great for exploring the Golden Circle as well as the Snaefellnes Peninsula. Being away from the city offers excellent viewing of the Northern Lights which we had complete with reds and dancing lights on February 4, 2018 for several hours. Close enough to Akranes for groceries(15 minutes) and easy access to Krauma spa (45 minutes).

Beautiful view, cute and functional cabin!

This cabin was a fantastic home for us in Iceland, and our hosts were so welcoming! We made meals and there were plenty of tools and pots/pans. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was very functional. We were nice and warm and loved the view! We were there in May so it was light very late and the shades made the bedrooms plenty dark to be able to sleep. Were I to return to Iceland, I would absolutely stay here again!!

Very friendly owners, beautiful place!!!!!

Dear Adda, Sigurjón and Jónella! Thank you so much for making us feel like we are visiting the family. You all are very nice! The cottage is wonderful and location is superb. The only downside was that we did not have enough time to really appreciate the cottage: traveled long hrs to see the wonders of Iceland. We are planning to come back in a year or so and will ask for your hospitality again.

Stunning view!!

Kathrin was amazing at communication throughout the whole booking process. Any question answered quickly. The house is in the most gorgeous setting, absolutely breath taking. We also saw the northern lights! A brilliant location for seeing them as hardly any light pollution. The house is lovely and warm and was a brilliant base, which was fully equipped for exploring Iceland.

Beautiful location, wonderful home!

Kathrin's house was the perfect place to relax and regroup during our Iceland visit. The property was beautiful and the house was perfectly appointed with everything we needed. The chocolates on our pillows were a lovely extra touch! :) Communication with Kathrin about our arrival time was the best I've ever had, and we appreciated her flexibility and graciousness when we arrived a bit later than anticipated. I highly recommend staying at Kathrin's home if you have the chance!

Perfect location, beautiful home

We absolutely loved our stay at the cozy cottage. It was way more convenient than I had anticipated - only 40ish minutes outside of Reykjavík and 10 minutes from a little downtown (Akranes) that had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked with the things needed to make dinner and a coffee pot for the morning. We loved watching the weather roll in and out over the lake and it was the perfect place to come home to after a long day of sightseeing. The cottage was absolutely spotless which is something i truly appreciate. We will absolutely be back. Don’t hesitate to book, we feel so lucky that it was available for our stay.

Amazing!

From the moment we arrived we loved it!! The owners were extremely welcoming and so sweet!! The cottage itself was so relaxing, warm and simply perfect. Beds were very comfortable. Everything you need in the kitchen for cooking if you don't want to be eating out all the time. We were able to see the Northern lights on our first night there! Amazing experience! We didnt have trouble with wifi at all if thats something you need.Not to mention the view of the frozen lake and the mountains in the morning. Wow! Stop thinking about it and book this sweet cottage!! Will return for sure!! Thank you for letting us stay here!! ♡♡♡

Nous avons séjourné à 5 en famille dans ce magnifique cottage bien aménagé, tout confort, situé dans un endroit magnifique. Nos hôtes ont été d'une grande gentillesse et discrétion, disponibles pour nous conseiller si besoin est. Les chambres sont confortables, et le coin salon-séjour très sympathique. Juste magique!

Le chalet est vraiment cosy , beaucoup de charme, une vue sur le lac sublime. Les propriétaires sont vraiment adorables, d'une gentillesse incroyable. Nous avons passés de superbes vacances!
